Gah, I had this entry almost done and there was a blackout.

Taken from [livejournal.com profile] asuki,

You Are A: Turtle!

turtleThese reptiles, famous for their hard outer shells, spent their days roaming for food and relaxing in the water. As a turtle you are not very speedy, nor are you soft and cuddly. You tend to hide in your shell and you aren't much of a sprinter, however you are as cute as you are fascinating.

You were almost a: Frog or a Chipmunk
You are least like a: Puppy or a BunnyCute Animal Quiz!

Turtle! Squeeeeeeeee! ^___^

You know, there's a trend right now in the Bleach fandom with one-liners. So I'll take a shot. Reply this post, and I'll write one sentence worth of fic with the characters/pairing and about the phrase, theme or word you request. The catch is, I'll only do CLAMPverse. Heck, just for fun, I'll even do couples I don't care about or despise.

So... shoot.

Watanuki--"memories"

(Man I was so tempted to ask for Doumeki/Watanuki so that we could get realistic characterization (read: Doumeki is not a molesting monster and Watanuki isn't an emo-girl) so you get extra points if you make it Doumeki/Watanuki)

Considering Syaoran's deal with his boss, Kimihiro was somehow hoping nobody he knew would ever ask Yuuko a huge favor. He probably could never bear with the guilt and sadness if someone important to him, like Doumeki, would suddenly lose his most precious memories.

Two phrases because the idea was too big for just one. And some slight subtext to go.

(My problem is, if I try to stick Watanuki and Doumeki to the closest to canon, I don't think I can pull them together. Certainly, it can be done, but not by me. Not yet, at least. First, CLAMP will have to make me buy it.

Still, I thank you for considering I might be able to write well done D/W someday. Even as a non-shipper, I appreciate the vow of confidence.)

[identity profile] tommyrotter.livejournal.com 2005-09-23 01:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay, this is awesome! The subtext makes me smile, and it's Watanuki, so that's double points because Watanuki makes me smile like mad.

(I must say the fandom is getting a lot better about good characterization, what with [livejournal.com profile] wyrdley and [livejournal.com profile] hydr0phobia doing the lovely hinting. Right now, I still think that the pairing is a little one-sided, since Watanuki is obviously very important to Doumeki. But, yes.)

Thanks so much! =D

I'm glad you liked ^^

Perhaps my problem with D/W is that I've been a fan of HOLiC since day one, and I truly miss the way things were on volume one: people was truly attracted to the plot, not to ships. While I think Doumeki is truly lovely as a character and I want him to survive to CLAMP's evil ideas, and I'm happy he was introduced, this has made the fandom become a brewing place for people who's reading just because there's a strong male-male bonding so there's high chance of teh hawt buttsecks in fanworks. I hope I'm not insulting you or anyone you know with these thoughts. I'm speaking in general.

It's just that I'm of the opinion Watanuki truly needs a real friend, even more than a lover. He's a lonely person, he isolated himself for years because he's different; he needs someone to trust. I've always been rooting more for a friendship than a relationship, even though it's obvious by now that Doumeki might love Watanuki. Maybe I've become bitter because things aren't going the way I was hoping, and I'm scared that some immature fangirls will try to rub it on my face like I was wrong. If I were just a random fan, it would be okay. But I run a fansite and a fanlisting. It's not a huge one, my shrine is, but still, I might have to deal with crazies.

Sorry I'm rambling. I just want people to understand I'm not against W/D because I'm a rabid, stubborn het whore or something, because I'm not. My OTPs in Tsubasa and X are shounen-ai, for instance. I'm not against W/D because it's boy/boy. At all.

Oh no, I completely agree. At first when Doumeki was introduced I was like "*sigh* Another gay pairing, CLAMP?" because that felt like that was the whole role he was going to play. For a while I was even rooting for the Zashiki Warashi and Watanuki, even though it was doomed from the beginning, just because it's so sweet and cute and there's probably a big plot twist involved, but.

But then Doumeki became less of a Rikuou (or whatever his name is from LD) clone and more of his own person, and he's just so earnest, in his own sort of way, and it's practically cannon now, so it shifted.

Although, as of this point, I view Doumeki/Watanuki as one-sided. It's pretty obvious that Doumeki loves Watanuki (or something really close), but I don't think Watanuki's quite there yet. Doumeki's obviously important to him, but I see it as a "you're my friend but I'm never going to admit it EVER now eat your damn dinner bastard" sort of a deal.

And most of the Japanese fansites make my heart all frowney, because they fell into the awful rut of making Watanuki the "blushing boy who may as well be a girl for all we care", and I hate that. That's what turned me off of LD in the beginning, but XXXholic keeps both Watanuki and Doumeki as such BOYS and I love it.

So, yes. Your reasons make tons of sense, and I am sort of sad that there is a distinct lack of genfic for XXXholic. =(

Anywho--major love. <3

Yep, yep. I didn't see the "gay love interest" vibe on Doumeki until volume 3, actually. Meanwhile, Doumeki might be less of Rikuou right now, but it's becoming more Touya; while Watanuki is less of Kazahaya and more of Subaru. Either way, I know CLAMP is working hard on the rival-friend-objectoflust transition, but it's still not doing it for me because it's getting a bit forced and it's nothing I haven't seen in other shounen-ai couples from them so far.

I didn't dare peeking at those 104 sites until the other day, while I was looking Clow/Yuuko fanart. It was... oh God. And sometimes the art was gorgeous, but Watanuki had such an uke face I just wanted to close the site. I shall call this fanon!Kimihiro: Watan-uke.

I had a similar experience when I was hunting for Touya/Yukito fanart (CCS, TRC, anything). Even though Yukito was the good old' boy next door, not exactly what you'd call a queer, the Japanese fangirls had managed to draw him every time like he was a girl in a hentai anime, sans the boobs. Astonishing.

Doumeki is not a molesting monster and Watanuki isn't an emo-girl

Are you intentionally trying to keep the uninitiated out of the xxxHOLiC section of ff.net, or is that just a side-effect?

Because the more I hear from the sane fans, the less I want to be a part of the online fandom...

[identity profile] laurus-nobilis.livejournal.com 2005-09-23 02:39 pm (UTC)(link)
If you want to try the HOLiC section of ff.net, do it now that it's small and the good authors are still easy to spot. It's not filled with badfic... yet.

[identity profile] tommyrotter.livejournal.com 2005-09-23 02:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I also suggest checking out the xxxholic community [livejournal.com profile] xxx_holic and looking at the fics that have lots of comments. Generally those are the good ones.

But yes, ff.net isn't that bad yet although there was that mary sue...

Don't mention that Mary Sue!

Then again, I saw a sueified Yuuko at the Tsubasa section once. The whole summary was brain-breaking.
