What I miss while I'm sleeping
...Now, bad publicity could do wonders, but we don't need to see canon vs. yaoi fanon debates distracting people from your pretties.
Anyway... before the study eats my sleepy soul away, I'll make the post I wanted to do.
Now, this chapter had it all! Really, I fangirled (or screamed at, depending on the situation) every page, every character return, everything. Roy is back, Bradley -unfortunately- is back, Riza is back, Armstrong is back, Winry is back, Garfiel is back, Knox is back, Lan Fan is back -snif-, Marcoh is back, where-is-Waldo guy is back... A lot of folks are back.
But apart from the fanservice, and the het couple hinting, and the crack (military-issued boxers! the veranda!), you all know where my heart is, right?
In Xing, as usual.
The whole message-in-a-cloth is breaking my brain, and it shouldn't. Because Ling wrote it, so that means he had a lucid moment, sufficiently long to write it. So far we've only had two visible lucid moments, and they're so short he only glares or says one phrase. And still, he could write the message at one time. The only thing the Ling moments had in common are a strong emotion that affects Ling, catalysed by an external event. Like Ed talking about Lan Fan, or Wrath insulting his decisions and human nature. Writing a letter doesn't involve such a rash feeling.
Why did Greedling leave him write the message without interfering? And what's worse: he even made sure it was delivered to "that woman". Why? The message could say anything, it could hold his doom, and still... he helps Ling. He could've destroyed the cloth so easily, but he didn't.
That means they must have a way of communication, and some kind of agreement going on. But did this deal limit to that favor, or is it something more serious? That's what I want to know. Greedling seems amused by Ling's takeovers, but it doesn't entirely sound as they're so happy and friendly inside, if Ling is waiting for him to drop the guard down. This is why I'm puzzled by Greedling-Ling's dynamics.
(This is all assuming Greedling IS as sincere as he said he was. There's a chance he could understand Xingese by connecting to Ling's mind? Doesn't Greedling want to take advantages of Lan Fan's loyalty towards Ling, considering the former Greed had minions?)
And now, two important sets of questions unrelated to Ling:
a) Will Alphonse tell Lan Fan EVERYTHING that happened, especially THAT part? Or will he lie to her so her little heart won't break to pieces? Will she put herself under Greedling's service, whether she likes it or not, because it's her duty to serve the Yao prince?
b) How much did Mei Chan hear inside the armor? How much did she understand?

I don't know what the great fuss is. This Yaoi!fangirls people seem to biologicaly need to justify all the more canon-er relationships in the series to be non-canon. WTF is that. Are they annoyed that there's NO WAY IN HELL x100000 that Ed and Al are gonna engage in incestuous buttsecks, or that Roy is not gonna remotely consider Ed as a romantic interest even if he was the last person alive on the planet? Really, I don't feel the need to constantly tell them their pairings are as possible as a tree developing speech skills every time the subject is brought up... and fanon pairings are brought up 634834 times a day.
So they can make up "hints" of their fanoner than life pairings at every chance, but discussing REAL hints brings these people to start debating against them. Talk about hypocrisy. There's also the "hey I can write all the Ed/Havoc I want!!!11" and then the next moment an Ed/Winry issue is brought up, she says "omg Ed is so asexual and I don't think he's got enough time to think romantically about anything!". I have three words for that: GO FUCK YOURSELF.
Sorry about the ranting, but it all gets on my nerves. That aside, people should stop doing canon vs yaoi comparitions. Because, what the hell, yaoi CAN be canon! There's yaoi manga for something (although people seems happier when they slash perfectly non-yaoi things, of course). The word "fanon" exists, so it'd be more appropriate to say canon vs fanon. And then let the "fit-throwing" begin.
That, I'm done. I was planning to make one icon with the word "canon" on it, but I never make references to yaoi fans or something -- should I really pay any attention to their shouts, anyway? XD; Anyway, none of mine are near as wanky as that one (I don't think they're even wanky), so don't worry XDDD;

About the actual series: I want to know more about the Greedling-Ling dynamics too! I don't think we'll get answers any time soon, because this arc has just started, though. But your idea about trying to use Lan Fan as a minion makes sense. I hadn't thought about that...

Of course, nobody gets annoyed if someone writes "omg roy/ed so canon" over a doujinshi image or anything else equally ridiculous xP

though it seems to be slowly heading toward canon omg?!And IMO, that shower scene actually gave more evidence for the fanonnes of Elricest. >.>;Of course, there's the option Greedling ships Ling/Lan, too! :DDDDDMaybe!! :DYou know, I don't think Greedling really has an agenda. Like, he's serving Father at the moment because he created him, but who knows how long that'll last? And yeah, he seems amused at the things Ling does, and I'm getting the feeling that he's just like "Hey, do what you want, as long as I'm in charge." Or something. I want to see more of this too. :O
And the thing I'm hoping for the most next chapter is a conversation between Mei and Al, about the things she may have heard. *__* And because hey, she can't possibly have missed the fact that he's completely empty inside.

and this is why I mocked when some LingEders had a fit over Greedling ruining L/E: you can still write it, get over it!We still don't know Greedling enough, so we'll have to wait and see.
What Mei knows or must know for sure by now:
a) The armor is empty
b) But it has a human aura
What Mei could know if she had paid attention to the conversation in the bathroom:
c) The armor considers the damn bean his brother and viceversa
d) He mentioned a "body" that is his
e) Those guys know where to get a Philosopher's Stone
What Mei could know if she had paid attention to other things
f) That guy WAS Ling Yao, or at least the bean thinks called him that
I think Mei and Al could have a nifty conversation just with those topics. However, I'm guessing Al will leave after talking to Lan Fan D: Oh well, if Lan stays there, Mei can always ask her what's the deal with the armor and Ling... or they can fight because they're rival clans... yikes.

And you should now that "screwing up a pairing" in the way Arakawa does it, ie. separating them, making one of them possessed by *insert something here*, is an obvious indication of shippier things to come. I learnt that watching The X-Files
and Arakawa did too, by the looks of itSo I'm not worried in the least XD;
