taotrooper: It's a polar bear dancing the hula; your argument is invalid (Kimihiro / Faith can't help you)

Finally watched #3

I'm not against moving plots around. But can't they do it with common sense? Then we get inconsistencies and plotholes of the size of Trinidad and Tobago. Of course, you as the screenwriter can try your best to tie the loose ends. But we get the PIG people fetching some cheap cellotape and paste the ends around, hoping it doesn't come off, but there's still a fucking gap between the stories.

And amazingly enough, I'm saying this putting aside the crossovers.

First surprise this chapter is the fact only Watanuki is playing baseball against Yuuko (and Mokona, stupidly put as the catcher). See, of course, last time he talked to Doumeki onscreen it was after P.E. the other day. There was no 1000 spirit tales session to form a bond between not only Watanuki and Doumeki, but between Yuuko and his slave's classmates. I'm putting this in bold so you and I remember this in the next minutes of show.

Still, two and a half persons playing baseball? STUPID.

And of course, since there's still no internet-addiction saga, Yuuko is using a regular metal bat. Sadly, it's not the first object we're missing from that saga, and I'll forward the piece of info already...

Rubber ducky is gone! ;___________;

But there's also disappointment on the objects department when we get to see the park background. The stone seats are all wrong. There are only two, and they're a dog and what it seems to be a platypus because that thing is too weird to be a duck.

WTF?

Oh, and since the TRC crossover is gone, no discussion over Star Wars over Casshern. Anime!Yuuko is still not a geek, and I weep.

Then, suddenly, Himawari shows up. (Although I liked the fact Watanuki threw Mokona away from the duck seat, since I hate that thing so much.) But really, I DON'T understand how Himawari, who thinks Watanuki works in a do-everything store, and knows nothing about the paranormalism, decides to ask him and his boss for help and info about the weird stuff happening at her friend's school. Because you know, there's still no 1000 stories, so she has no fucking way to know that Yuuko is a witch or Watanuki can see ghosts, unless Watanuki had told her just because. And let's face it, that's so frigging OOC for someone who has such a trauma about people not believing him. How did she know? Or is she really that thick and thinks ordinary people can fix that?

PLOTHOLE NUMERO UNO.

And then Yuuko is all "ah, Watanuki can't go alone... no, Himawari-chan, another one, not you..." WTF, Yuuko.

Back to the house, the rubber ducky is STILL MISSING. But why was it cut, too?! It's not a crossover, it doesn't really depend on the internet saga, and it's a canon excuse for their Mokona to jump and be all lovey-dovey at another inanimated object!

And if you think those are shallow reasons to wank over a rubber ducky, I'll have you a valid one. Remember in manga, while Yuuko was changing her clothes, Watanuki had this Yuuko/Himawari vision, and Yuuko whacks him over the back of his head with ducky. Well, it all happens the same in anime, sans ducky. You see my point, right? Yuuko punched him on the head! And it looked so wrong! If that was RL's United States, Watanuki could totally sue her for physical agression at work!

Gah!

But the thing is, the dialogue happens EXACTLY like the manga (I followed with my volume and all), with few modifications. And the thing is, they implied that in the park, Yuuko randomly decided Doumeki was going with him, and Himawari agreed. Now wait just a second here:

a) Yuuko DOESN'T KNOW Doumeki personally unless they're changing the plot and she was friends with grandpa or know him when she was a kid like Subaru or something. She has no explicit reason to think Doumeki can repel spirits. There was no divination arc so she doesn't know there's a guy supposed to be fated to bond with Watanuki and sex him up, according to fandom. So, either they're changing the plot, or they're enhancing Yuuko's powers of vision to know everything about Kimihiro's immediate and distant future. *coughcough* Like Clow Reed *cough* Oops, sorry, I forgot that name is banned from the anime! Anyway,

PLOTHOLE NUMERO DOS.

b) Who did inform/invite Doumeki to follow through? Was it Watanuki? Was it Himawari? Was it Yuuko itself? Did they attach a children party's card with pretty baloons on it saying "You're invited to our ayakashi slumber party at school grounds on midnight, don't forget to bring some beers!" on Mokona's leg and throw it to the temple grounds? They NEVER say it! Watanuki mentions he doesn't think he'll be there, but that's fucking it. And why is Doumeki randomly going to that public place raid if he barely knows that noisy guy who's always acting like an ass in front of him?

PLOTHOLE NUMERO TRES.

Back to... story. Or what it's supposed to be story. It goes copy-pasted until we reach to a point Watanuki is forced to introduce Doumeki to Yuuko via headphones. And with this, a part of the theories gets nullified. And we get the subtext cortesy of anime!Yuuko (you thought manga!Yuuko was pushing 104? Well, this one, too!). Watanuki repeats like an automaton every message Yuuko says.

W: *avoiding eye contact, bored* "Because Watanuki-kun cried and said that he didn't want to be without Doumeki-kun." *realizes* *spazzes* I DIDN'T SAY THAT!!
D: *doesn't react, isn't even focused by camera*

Anyway, with this intro, let's back to it. I find it strange Yuuko and Mokona are playing chess, like the latter actually has some trace of logic. At least it's losing.

Black smoke? Still not so impressive.

And of course, Watanuki doesn't understand why spirits won't approach him, because he doesn't know Doumeki repels them. So the fact Yuuko tells him to be grateful is even stupidier.

The angel spirit IS disgusting-looking. I'll grant them that. Snake spirit was very alike. However, when it ate the headphones... well, I didn't laugh. That's one of the parts I found funnier in the manga, because it was so random. I always giggle or smile when I see it in the manga. And yet, the animation didn't made it amusing. I blame it on the music, that was too tense.

After the snake was gone, they pasted the dialogue that was supposed to happen during the TRC crossover at the park.

Now the random ending. Yuuko, Doumeki and Himawari (and Watanuki, and Mokona) have a party with takoyaki and booze in the middle of the park. Things that go wrong with the picture: to start, are they allowed to use a grill in a public park?! Because Watanuki is doing the takoyaki right there. WTF.

Then we find they merged several scenes: the first lunch time the boys and the girl share in the next arc (the monkey's paw one), a part of the explanation of the 1000 stories, a part of the after-baseball snacktime they cut ("Do you want one?" "I made them!"), and the Yuuko exposition (which neither Doumeki and Himawari was supposed to be hearing).

That still doesn't explain PLOTHOLE #2!

And also, Himawari DOESN'T react to Mokona jumping. She's holding it and going "it's not scary, it's so cute~", while I go "well, it freaks ME out because it looks like Larg and it's not."

And speaking of Larg, I THANK GOD Yuuko followed the script and didn't say she made Mokona, or I would've wanked again. On second thoughts, I want that thing UNATTACHED from my OTP, kthxbyedie.

Oh, and they didn't even left the "Watanuki is such a good child, Clow and I knew it from before." They changed it for the shippy "Watanuki, who's tired of spirits. Doumeki, who keeps them away. It looks like it's going to be interesting."

Me: Yeah, for the shippers. *rolleyes* Watanuki is only good for something with his big seme Doumeki, after all! He's so useless without him repelling the spirits back!

Canon!manga!Watanuki: Bitch, PLEASE!!11!1!

***

Count for this episode: three unrepairable plotholes.
