It's refreshing, reading something CLAMPish with no eye loss

Like I said, I completed the CCS manga collection. And I'm slowly rereading the first arc.

Things I forgot because of TRC and I'm glad to be reminded
a) There's a Syaoran who has a likeable personality *gets shot*
b) There's a Sakura who does stuff

Things I didn't expected to find, but aren't bad at all
c) The amount of Touyuki subtext! I thought it started to be blastantly obvious in the second arc, but nu-huh! It's all over the place, and I'm enjoying every fucking minute of it.
d) Kaho is growing on me. It scares me, but she is. Moreover: so the girl is cryptic, mysterious, can be charming and annoying (sometimes at the same time), stalks, looks from afar, climbs on trees, makes Li glare when acting innocent... Dude, she's like Eriol-lite with boobies! No wonder they're canon! I'm sure she got tips from him before she went back, because dayum.
I can't believe I'm liking Kaho.

CCS!Sakura >>>>> TRC!Sakura. And she's less of a Mary Sue, even with the whole Most Powerful Sorceress thingy. She gets frightened easily, and she's denser than Watanuki, and she *gasp* gets angry!

Manga!Kaho makes me happy, especially when I need a change from Fanon!Kaho. Even more when she's there to point out the Tuoya/Yuki subtext. ♥

You know, I used to hate CCS Syaoran. I still hate early CCS Syaoran. CCS syaoran was a little brat (until near the end) and TRC Syaoran is just boring.

CCS Sakura is a billion times better than TRC Sakura though. I keep hoping TRC Sakura will run into Hikaru at some point and Hikaru teaches her how to grow a spine and do something other than being a plot device.

a) I KNOW. Scary, i'n'it? He was so adorkably cute! Fanfic!Syaoran made me forget.
b) No shit. Though actually, when I think hard enough, I realize that CCS was a really dumb, really fluffy manga.
c) I haven't read the first arc in a really, really long time, so I wouldn't remember. But I don't doubt it~
d) My roommate continuously reminds me that manga!Kaho is cute. And ditzy. And funny. And that I like her.

CCS characters per se are beyond the Litmus tests for Sues, but they still manage to feel real. Now, the Tsubasa ones? They're CLAMP's AU doujinshi, so they have to be Sueish. Who else would write badfic with Syaoran poking people's eyeballs? Not the fanbrats, but Ohkawa!

Kaho would burnminate the fanon!Kahos by herself. While grinning.

I'm all the contrary. I adore bratty!Syaoran, with the glares and the rudeness. When he's just there blushing like a regular love interest he bores me.

You know, I've never really thought about it that way, all those similarities. I wonder if we were supposed to make the parallels, or if it was foreshadowing for the relationship. Too bad the anime kills the Eriol-lite thing with ice-queen!Kaho But in any case, it's more ammo against the E/T fanbrats who think that Eriol and Kaho have nothing in common. Ha. I wonder that, too. I noticed when there was a scene, before they got inside the cave at the beach, in which Syaoran glares at Kaho and she just grins at him back! And the déjà-vu threw me out of my chair. But see, the only thing Eriol and Tomoyo had in common is their supposed love for music, and that's only applicable to anime canon¹.





1. That doesn't mean manga!Eriol has no ability or fondness towards music, but he hasn't showed it in that canon. Flying Pianos included.

Aren't the equivalent Eriol moments considered very shippy by the E/Sy'ers? Will this realization lead to a new crack OTP? And they both push Touya and Yukito towards each other, but for very different reasons. What, you mean all those times that Eriol and Tomoyo plotted together for hours on how best to matchmake Sakura and Syaoran never happened?
