[CCS] I told you it was a date
Genre: Romantic comedy (more comedy than romance)
Canon: post-series
Rating: PG for lightgay kiss
Pairing: Touya/Yukito
Length: around 1500
Summary: if your best friend asks you out, takes you to a fancy restaurant and later to the movies and walks you home, you'd think it's a date, wouldn't you? Well, not Yukito.
It was decided: he finally was gonna ask him out that day. Not an easy task; because, first, they had a solid friendship, and even though he knew his friend could figure out his feelings towards him, this would change their relationship forever. And second, the target was currently eating, and his concentration on important things dropped to negative figures when his mouth was full.
But Touya was going to regret later it if he didn't do it. If he said no, at least he'd knew he tried.
"Hey, Yuki!"
"Hello," he smiled back. "Have you ever bought the ham sandwiches from the cart? They're delicious." After that comment, he bit his lunch in bliss.
"Listen, I gotta tell you something." Touya cut to the chase.
"What is it?" Touya put his hand over Yukito's shoulder, and looked at him intensely. The bespectacle boy opened his eyes in awe.
"Would you go out with me this Sunday?"
"Sure!" He grinned in relief. "Gee, I thought it was something bad, you scared me."
That was easy. Too easy. He accepted without even thinking. And resumed his sandwich like nothing that could change his life had happening.
"Are you sure you want to, Yuki?"
"Don't be silly. Why wouldn't I? I love to hang out with you out of school."
Hang out? Touya felt like a piano felt over his head. His friend had not understood he was asking for a date, not the usual bonding between pals.
"No, Yuki, I didn't mean that. See, I want to spend time alone with you, all the afternoon. I want to take you out to lunch, and watch a movie in a dark theater with you. You know, going out. Not hanging out, you dork."
"OK, going out. Let's go out. Let's have lunch and watch a movie." He zipped his apple juice, serene. Why was Touya acting like so weird? They had had lunch together before. They had gone to the movies before. What was with the stupid verb difference?
"Really? Alright, I'll pick you up at 1:00 pm."
"What for? We'll meet at the place where we're going to eat. You don't have to go to my house, it's a waste of time for you." Touya sighed.
"I want to pick you up. I want to do this right."
Yukito still didn't understand why the big deal of picking him up, it was troublesome for his best friend. But he was a little tired, so he went along. Touya was really strange that day. He had been strange since he had given his powers to him and his other self.
"Oh, then it's fine by me." He nodded, trying to be supportive.
**********
The moon rabbit was a bit scared on that Sunday afternoon. Touya appeared on his house, with his favorite clothes on, perfectly combed, and wearing cologne. He even brought him a box of chocolates. Then they went down street, and Touya hold his hand. Yuki was so close of telling him not to, he was not a five year-old, he was not gonna escape anywhere or getting lost. People was already looking at them in an unusual way, especially girls. But Kinomoto was in a nervous yet happy mood, so it was better not to say anything.
Touya took him to a small, pretty Italian restaurant. The round tables had candles and red tableclothes on them. They sat down and looked around.
"What a cozy place," said Yukito.
"I worked him as a waiter. The food is good, I thought you'd like it."
"Heh, that's cool. Hmm, there are a lot of couples here, Touya. This seems like a popular place for dating, doesn't it?"
"..."
"You know," he lowered his voice, "I think those two at the corner are staring at us. Maybe they think we, um... you know." Yuki blushed. Touya's butterflies in his stomach felt down right to his intestines.
"Yuki, you do know why we're here... do you?"
"Because it's a good restaurant and we're gonna have lunch," he replied, innocently.
Touya couldn't belive his ears. Yukito didn't know they were having a date. How stupid was him?
"Argh, no, listen to me, we..."
"Are you ready to order now, guys?"
"Yeah!! Spaghetti, lasagna, linguini, rabiolli, rigatoni, breadsticks, a caesar salad and a vanilla ice cream for dessert. What about you, Touya?"
"Just a bowl of vermicelli and a cup of coffee for me, and some common sense for him, please."
**********
By the time they left the restaurant, Touya was annoyed. He wanted to do something romantic, touch his hand, something; but when it comes to food, Yukito moves too fast. A couple of times, Yukito raised his fork and feed him, but there was nothing sweet to it, he just wanted to show his friend how tasty his pasta was. Yes, he was an oblivious dumb, but he looked so cute when he was attacking a bowl of lettuce...
When they went to the movies, Yukito ordered the biggest popcorn bag, nacho box and soda can. How could he had space for that, it was a mystery for Touya.
"So, what do we watch?"
"The newest Jackie Chan's? You like Jackie Chan movies, don't you, Touya?"
"Not anymore. I'm sick of Hong Kong guys, because of the brat!"
"Harry Potter?"
"I watched it last week with Sakura and dad. The main character looks like the Clow reincarnation kid so much it's freaky. How about 'Big Explosion'?"
"I heard it's lousy and has no plot. The animation one?"
"Bad idea. We'd scare little children out."
"Why would we...?"
"'My cousin's wedding'?"
"It's a chick flick. That's the kind of things you watch with your girlfriend."
"Um... exactly!"
"Um... you know what? Let's watch Big Explosion. Maybe it's not that bad..."
"Um... maybe you're right."
**********
Touya insisted in walking Yukito home. The latter was uncomfortable with the thought. He insisted he was not gonna fall sleep anymore in a side of the street, but his partner didn't take a no for an answer. They talked about the movie.
"It wasn't that bad. I kinda liked it."
"What are you talking about? You were about to fall asleep in the theatre."
"No, I wasn't."
"Yes, you were, Touya. You kept yawning and stretching your arms behind me. You were even holding on to me and putting your head on my shoulder, just in case you fell asleep."
Oh my God, thought Touya. He didn't noticed what was that all about?
"Oh, we arrived."
Indeed, they were in front of Yukito's house.
"So..."
"I'll see you on Monday then."
"Yeah, tomorrow, at school."
"I had a great time Did you?"
"Yes, I did! Well, I guess I'll..."
Yukito couldn't finish the phrase. Touya interrupted him by putting his lips over his mouth, while he tenderly passed his fingers over the mousy, silky hair of his beloved. He had been wanting to do that since a long time ago. Yukito didn't oppose, but he didn't give as well; he was so surprised he couldn't move a muscle.
When he was done, Touya was smirking, satisfied for the moment. Yukito was still frozen and shaking.
"W-w-what...?"
"A good-bye kiss, you silly. You're so absentminded you didn't realize this was actually a real date."
"A -- what?! You mean... then... you wanted to..."
"Go out with you, yes. I told you! See, this is the difference between hanging out and going out. Can you see it now?"
Yukito couldn't believe how blind had he been. Then, if Touya wanted to date him and kiss him... then did he love him back? Could it be?
"Then... you have... um... you know, feelings for... um...?"
"You? Of course I do! Haven't I told you I always want you by my side, haven't I told you I didn't care what you were, haven't I given you what you needed to survive? Man, you're so oblivious sometimes!"
"Oh..." Yukito was in shock. He always wanted to ask, but he couldn't.
"But you know," continued Touya, "if you don't feel that way, that's OK. We can go back to the way things were, and that's it. I don't mind, I don't want to freak you out."
"No! I... I want to date you again, Touya. Really." He gave him a warm smile.
"Are you serious?" Touya smiled him back.
"Yeah, the food was delicious... and um, so was the kiss." Yuki blushed.
**********
When he was going to bed, remembering the whole day, a dry but mocking voice talked inside his head.
"Actually, I knew it was a date since the beginning. I can't understand why you didn't see it sooner."
"Oh, shut up, Yue..."
