【THE TIME CAPSULE MEME】=> my thread
More anime movies, this time Kino no Tabi: The country of disease (for you). Now, I missed Kino no Tabi. I really enjoyed it, some sort of extra episode more than a movie. It feels quite like the original series in narrative with the usual fucked-up twist in the end, although it's not a surprise considering it's a novel story. But anyway, I found it quite well, cute and sad. It took me a bit to get used to the art, though. Also, Hermes talking to another motorcycle and expecting a reply was both funny and "aww" at the same time.
There should be more random movies or OVAs of Kino to animate interesting novel chapters. It's just so bittersweet they tease us like this.
First listing what I wrote this year, which is... more than I expected, actually.
In Spanish:
Madres, melodías y corazones (CCS, Touya/Yukito)
Juguete nuevo (CCS, Touya/Yukito)
In English:
Births and myths (CCS, Eriol-tachi)
Touch of the brush (Okami, Amaterasu)
Paradox of the prophet (Okami, Ushiwaka)
No blizzard today (Okami, Oki/Kai)
How friends and devotees call you (Okami, Amaterasu)
The eternal question (One Piece, Kohza/Vivi)
Always comes back (Avatar, Sokka + Hakoda)
The talk (CLAMP, Clow + guardians)
Button smashing (Duklyon, Kentarou/Takeshi)
A cave and a mirror (Okami, Amaterasu + the Celestial tribe + Brush gods + Waka) [translation not finished but it was written last year]
Favourite story this year: I'm not sure. I like "A cave and a mirror", and "Always comes back", and "Las cartas sobre la mesa".
My best story this year: I think you're the ones who'd have to tell me ^^u
Most underappreciated by the universe, in my opinion: Any Okami piece! It's hard to say with the others because some of them I never pimped in their respective fandoms.
Most fun story: "Button smashing" for Kentarou fanboying videogames, "Births and myths" for Nakuru fangirling Mulder, "Caldo de pollo para el alma del mago" because H/S is always fun.
Sexiest story: "The eternal question" has sexy horseriding at the end. "Juguete nuevo" has Touya on a motorcycle. To be honest, the original idea had the whole first ride and it was... well... quite hot.
"Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story: I think this year nothing can be labeled there.
Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: I think they all reflect what I already thought of the characters. However, "Button smashing" made me think a lot about how Takeshi works and how he could get used to Kentarou against his will, giving him some years.
Hardest story to do: "Button smashing" because it was a present for a total stranger. I tried to make it less gen and more pre-slash, but I failed. I'd need more chapters or scenes for that, to show things instead of telling them.
Biggest disappointment: How the contest for which I wrote "A cave and a mirror" flopped and I won by default. Bummer. And I thought more people would read "Caldo de pollo...", in part because the comm's mod fangirled when I signed up, but she didn't comment on it.
Biggest surprise: That I wrote Avatar fic! It was written before season 3, so I couldn't quite remember the Water tribe or Hakoda well. I had to google and wiki shit up like you wouldn't believe. Luckily, when Hakoda showed up again in canon he didn't seem any different of my characterization. That had me worried.
Most telling story: "Always comes back", "Births and myths" (I don't know, *I* think it's telling), the Okami gen introspective ones.
A story I want remembered: I'd really liked it if "A cave and a mirror" gets comments when I post it in English.
