Fly me to the nude, and let me play amo-- wait
So, I just watched the raw for the first Rebuilt of Evangelion movie. Well, it felt pretty rushed since they had to smush so many episodes in one hour and a half, and most of the things didn't quite change. It was kind of like watching the remastered Star Wars original trilogy, but instead of Han not shooting first, they had Misato slapping herself instead of Shinji or something.
No, really, the product placement made me crave Doritos. Fuck you, Gainax.
Let me get this out my chest first: boo they cut Kensuke camping in the mountains! Actually, the whole dynamics between Shinji, Touji, and Kensuke were disappointing to me. I mean sure, they kept them running off to the fight in the mountain, and the punching scenes were kept (bonus points to Shinji's nose bleeding), but it wasn't quite the same. However, the guys were shown being worried by him quite a bit, and I liked how they left phone messages for him before fighting Ramiel. So he was actually thinking of protecting his friends, now only Rei, and that's cool.
Speaking of which? Ramiel was hardcore, bitches! I loved the new Ramiel in its CG glory. That was truly a motherfucker, and the splooge-y drill was disgusting.
And now that we're talking about angels, I actually had to check the Wiki because I thought I was hallucinating when I felt there was something weird about Lilith being shown so soon. It wasn't just the mask being different. It was the fact Misato knew it was Lilith! Wasn't sort of a big plot point that everyone but a few thought the crucified angel was Adam? Yeah, of course I was boggling, because she was told (can't remember if by Kaji or Ritsuko, but it was way later than this) it was Adam. I wonder if this is either something Anno wanted to retcon or he just forgot about that.
I'll be back to Adam derivatives soon, because the other thing I wanted to discuss was the nudity. Er, it felt there was quite a bit extra of nudity. Okay, yes, this is EVA, there has to be nudity especially if you remember this was the movie to include classics scenes such as "WTF there's a penguin in the bathroom!!!!" and "excuse me, but your hand is on my boob". Obviously, those were kept (ahahaha, Shinji you dumbass XD). And really, this is Gainax and all. Still, I think they pushed it a bit more. The detail of nipple and butt on Rei was higher (bleagh), and there as even a silhouette of Shinji's penis I now need to unsee DX
But nothing could prepare me to RANDOM NAKED KAWORU. Y-yeah, well, you're forgiven for the nipple and the sad peen now because WTF THAT'S RANDOM NAKED KAWORU. The most amazing thing is, I'm not even a Kaworu fan, but I admit it was a pretty hot piece of fanservice and a smart way to wrap up the movie -by giving the fangirls something, that is. After the shock of finding anime!Kaworu hot for some good minutes, though, I remembered there was something that LOOKED LIKE LILITH near him. WTF was that? Adam, perhaps? Shouldn't he be a frozen fetus? Or is that an Eva? I dunno, I'm kind of lost in here. It should be Adam, I'm guessing. I hope they explain this in later movies because it's very WTF. And where is that place, the South Pole? Even more WTF, if that's the case.
Also, there was a lot of random holding hands. With isolation being a main theme, I wonder if this will make the characters feel more lonely on any future developments.
But either way, I didn't dislike the movie even though it only brought a few changes from the storyline and I can't tell if the animation is truly better with a camrip. I'll have to check the next movies to make a judgment. But mind you, it felt so strange to watch NGE after such a long time!
