taotrooper: It's a polar bear dancing the hula; your argument is invalid (Fullmetal Alchemist / Elric brothers)

My back is in pain... again

Just make it quick because people have already said the good stuff better than I could. I just want to say that I like that Arakawa isn't afraid to have a smart, collected character to lose himself over a strong emotion. But I like even better that she does it in a believable way. It makes them more human and it's not overdone. There's the potential to mess up badly; just because they're smart doesn't mean they'll be collected and rational all the time. It would be easy (so easy!) to let Roy do his vengeance and be consumed by hatred. But Arakawa isn't about all that, and isn't it better to have his most important comrade to beat the dark crap out of him, and have someone formerly fueled by those feelings nearby to help her? It's harder to write, but it gives a better effect on your characterization. And really, would we like to have an angry and/or emo Roy afterwards? OF COURSE WE DON'T. I love the FMA manga because it's not an overloaded drama fest. Really, IMHO not going directly for the wangst is better storytelling.

.......It wasn't quick at all *facepalm*

Oh, and angry Roy scared the crap out of me. *dodges tomatoes* My badass heroine this month was Riza ♥

New signs of insanity: I've spent a quarter of Holy Week analyzing the geography, economy, and history of fictional nations. Because I'm convinced I can't write my plotbunnies about a monarch without fully understanding the country they rule and the world they live in. Well, that and my love for meta. And I frigging love Malkuth.
