Letter to my Yuletide writer
Dear Yuletide Writer:
Wow, you didn't flee from terror? Then I love you for that ♥ I'm really sorry all my requests are video games and I guess that would be hard to review. If you'd prefer a "gimme" fandom instead of what you got, let me know and we can work something out.
I'll copy-paste some generic info about me that I wrote for a previous Yuletide edition. I'm not that picky; as long as the characterization is canon-compatible and not terribly OOC, I'll like it. I'm an introspection and gen whore, mostly. I like focus on characters and their environment, and the way they think and act in general. So If you can't come up with an epic plot or twist or way to pull the couples I like, it could be perfectly fine to do a character study of any character I mention in the optionals, or silly slice-of-life situations without a point.
My turn-offs are OOC, non-con and rape, uke-seme clichés, stuff that's too kinky like BDSM -actually, I'm pretty much vanilla, and much rather romance or soft erotica/foreplay to hardcore porn-, bestiality (unless the 'animal' is sentient and gets a human form; more on that later if you're writing P4, I suppose), incest, clonecest, alter-ego pairings, mentor/teacher-student pairings, sexual situations with shouta (which is not the same to age gaps of any kind; several years later fics and/or the 'kid' as an adult is fine, and so is romance with people who look like boys but are older. It's the kiddie porn I'm not into), genderbending, crossdressing or role-playing when the character isn't into it in canon, an eternal sea of woes and angst (I'm cool with angst, just in a fair measure), deathfics.
I'm into fluff, humor, introspection like I said, minor characters, precanon fill-the-gaps, loyalty and friendship and companionship, that the characters won't forget about personal goals, friends, and family after getting someone to love. I enjoy witty things that'll make me think about stuff the canon plotlines never exploited entirely or at all. I'm more of a romantic than a smutty girl; I like sap in moderation, if it's IC for the characters. I'll be honest and say I rarely read porn, but I won't mind if you include it in your piece as long as it doesn't have any of my squicks. Moreover, I'll tell you a secret: depending on the pairing -and this year, the only one I sort of requested fits!- sometimes I'm just satisfied with seeing them talking or bantering, not even requiring snogging. If writing AUs, I'd prefer similar settings or tiny canon variations than high school stuff or "X is a stripper in Vegas!" kind of plots.
...This is getting tl;dr O_o So let's wrap this fast with fandom specifics, although I said most of it on the requests.
Okami: Waka
To be fair, my gut reaction was go with Any because I just want Okami fanfic like you wouldn't believe. But then it would be more complicated to you, so I picked the favorite character. That said, Ushiwaka is a hard guy to get and some might regret to offer him, so that's why I'm willing to be more indulgent here: he doesn't have to even be the main character or focus here. Hell, if you decide to write a story about someone else with Waka doing a small cameo and saying two lines, it's perfectly fine. I love this game and characters so damn much I'd read anything you give me, even sans-Waka.
...But I'm not sure if the paragraph above helps or not! :D So let's assume you like him and want to write him. Then well, one of the things that fascinates me is how intrinsic to the plot is, how he's been anywhere and anytime in the story. Over 200 years is a long time and I love interpretations of his history: his life in the Moon Tribe, his life in the Celestial Plain, the Ark of Yamato incident, the couple of centuries he spent in Nippon, founding the Tao Troopers, his possible friendship of sorts with Ishaku and Sakuya, so on. So a precanon story would be well welcomed. However, if it doesn't work for you, in-game moments and post-ending interpretations are also fun. Like I said, I'd read anything. Even pairings -het or slash- and hints of them I'm fine with, as long as you don't sexualize Amaterasu/Waka.
Persona 4: Teddie
You must be wondering what kind of crazy person I am, when my favorite character is this idiot. But I find Teddie adorable in all his annoyance: the bad sense of humor (I-I laugh at the bear puns, don't judge me), the fail attempts to flirt, the enthusiasm, the determination and willingness to help, the over-the-top attitude and sparkles, the underlying insecurities because of his nature, the indecision between living in both worlds. I think he's interesting because he's so odd, like this precocious child who ate too much sugar, yet has deep issues in his own shallowness even he wasn't expecting. Now the game hints at the difficulties to adapt to the human world, trying to understand every object and concept, and the hilarity that ensues his surreal antics, but never goes further. A story with anything related to that would be great, not necessarily the big focus. Or it could be about exploring his friendship with anyone you want. The silly slice of life moments between the party characters (plus others) are some of my favorite parts of the game, so one like those including Teddie in the spotlight with one or more of his friends.
Even though I'm more interested in gen and friendship fic for him, possible pairings -het or slash- or hints for them are fine. Just nothing smutty or fursuit fetishism or lolicon. And any romance pre-July would weird me out.
Tales of the Abyss: Jade Curtiss/Peony IX
If you're here for the Abyss, you were likely picked by this one and not the Keterburg one... maybe. Very well, I'll start saying that Jade is my favorite male character in all Tales games. I also love Peony about as much as I love Jade. So the fact those two are best friends is amazing and great to me. I love their interactions because, as I said before, I'm weak to friendly sarcastic banter and Peony is the only one who can keep it up with Jade's trolling ways and even win occasionally. They also trust and complement each other. I'm as much in love with their friendship as I am with them individually.
And like I said, I don't need something shippy even though it's my OTP. I'll be equally happy with bromance or romance, I assure you. And I also like Peony/Nephry, so I'm cool with mentions to that.
So, what else...? Okay, in the possible ideas department, just them hanging around and talking about anything would be cool. Yeah, I'm sorry I'm not so specific, but I have to make up for giving a concrete setting for the other prompt. For good ideas of P+J stuff I like, just any of the former's sidequests (plus Jade's advance coliseum) or everything similar to/based on Tales of Fandom 2 (see links) is pretty cool. Or, you know, you might write the Keterburg route; feel free to drop one or two of the rest of the group.
Ah, and I'm aware that Peony is really minor and he'd be more in need to be refreshed. So I'll offer links for his canon that might help you out:
- Timeline. It's a post in an RP account, but it sums up some meta facts about Jade and company from several Japanese sources (fanbooks, novels, dramas, manga gaiden...) and it might help.
- This fansite. In particular Shiro no Ashita 1 and the game scripts. Speaking of scripts, GameFAQs has the skits (also helpful for the Keterburg request, maybe)
- Tales of Fandom vol.2, Jade's story. God, this thing. I could marry this thing. This is an official crossover game that only came out in Japan, pretty much a mix between visual novel, minigames, and "press x to not die". Jade's story is pretty much centered in Peony, despite of the name. A summary-translation is in that link, along with youtube links to videos.

I think the optional part explains this one well. I'm also fascinated by Jade's childhood in Keterburg and the amount of fanarts/doujinshi depicting it is large. However, I don't suppose there's much fanfiction about them as kids, when they were studying in Nebilim's school -she's not in the character list, so feel free to add her or not to the story. If you can't come up with a good idea, there are references to canon childhood stories in the links above: the day they ice-skated (skits script), the day Jade, Peony and Saphir went treasure-hunting in a boat (Tales of Fandom 2). Those sort of stories, or even those stories in particular. (That assuming you follow the optional part, I mean.)
Oh, if any of them gets complicated to write in? Go ahead and get away with just mentions or one-line cameos. I understand this request is a bit annoying and well, I love the four of them anyway! And sure, if you prefer to write them as teenagers/adults and after all the mess that followed Nebilim's death, it's fine.
