You guys do have a lot of stuff to be proud of, I'll concede. But in general, it must be hard to be objective about our own country's history and when things were stupid and the fault lies in us. I can't really tell because my motherland only has 5 centuries of written history, native civilizations with no trascendant culture, and went only through 2 wars (one of them for independence, the other civil), but many other countries seem to suffer from bias about themselves. It's human nature.
