Notes: I used actual Feng Shui symbolism in this vignette. Manga spoilers ahead.
1. Five shades of white
Her young master's trousers were white as snow when they left the fatherland. It was not a coincidence at all. According to Xinguese tradition, the color white had several symbols.
First of all, West was always represented with white. Their travel was headed to that direction, so it was no surprise his legs had to be surrounded in white clothes so they'd meet that destination.
Also, the color and the cardinal were associated with earth, autumn and harvests. Like a prayer so they'd achieve their goals, as long as they kept their feet on the ground. And her master had chosen the color of dead leaves to complement his outfit, so the Chi would be positive.
After they arrived to Amestris, Lan Fan was amazed when she remembered the Western element was metal. And fate suited them, and their first real clues were given by men with metal in their bodies.
A couple of fights later, she'd glance at where her missing limb should be, and try to console herself. As useless as she was at the moment, perhaps she could bring good luck to her cherished master like an amulet. After all, she was in the western empire. She had white in her mask and her armor's ribbons. And she'll be getting metal implanted in her own flesh.
