Couple rant meme, part 2
Ah, busy day was yesterday. Not.
But I finished reading Monster in manga and Samurai Champloo in anime. Great stuff indeed.
Anyway, let's go to the couples missing. This time there won't be bashing, surprisely.
For
haibara_kun:
Roy/Hawkeye: not that useless in the rain, really.
This one is just great. To start with, they do make a gorgeous couple (I'm a sucker for the blond/dark combination), they're both extremely handsome and they compliment each other (he's set the goals and ambitions, she's got the determination to make him work on them.) Besides, Riza's devotion and love to his man overwhelms me to insanity. She's just amazing. The manga confrontation with Lust killed me. The shipness of it all!
Sometimes I want to whack Roy in the head since he doesn't seem to realize he has all that he might be looking for in his office. Why the hell is he wasting his time dating women when the perfect one is right besides him? He needs to open his eyes: she's no longer a mere subordinate, she's something more. A lot of shippers, especially in my flist, use the term "touchstone" to refer to her. I think it fits, brilliantly.
This one is my OTP in Hagaren, along with Ling/Lan.
For
miyazawa_lulu, the classic:
Clow/Yuuko: wizardry at its most whimsical.
I'll try to be concise, because I have a pending
ship_manifesto essay coming up.
Yes, I'm into it and I'm obsessed.
... er, OK, that was maybe *too* concise.
Well, no, I don't think they had something that strong going on in canon. I like to think they loved each other deeply in their own way, but they both knew it wouldn't work out before it started. Or perhaps they did have a short-term relationship but it was a mess and decided to stay as friends. Or they occasionally slept with each other on those nights ruled by Jose Cuervo and Sauza, if you catch my drift. Either way, no, no room for happy ending, because it's Fate(tm) and we know Clow was alone before he died. Sometimes I wonder if Yuuko's mad at him because he died that way, he pushed her away from him, or he actually betrayed her or made her mad in other way.
But they do have so much in common. They're both ridiculously powerful and wise magicians. They're both eccentric and selfish. They're both wicked, with a strange sense of humour. They both want to do things their way and manipule the whole universe if they have to. And they're both sexy and extremely attractive.
In canon (according to the Ultimate Ship Source, the Mokona Modoki book) they bicker a lot (well, not really: Yuuko tries to contradict him just because and Clow refuses with a smile she's so 'fond' of), but they have fun together (fun = laughing & booze). They pull each other pranks, she complains about the evil glasses, he's behind everything naughty the Mokonas do. They are, in one word, amusing.
And I think they were the only ones who could completely understand the other.
For
laurus_nobilis:
Kurogane/Fye: even Mokona hooks them up.
Okay, I like their friendly/aggresive relationship in canon like is is, actually. They're the reason I keep reading this crack. When they're missing in plot, I'm as bored as an oyster. I need one of them to get hooked, or I'm not going to care.
However, unlike Doumeki/Watanuki, I can see the lure this ship brings. I do. And I'm not only saying this because they're both hot guys, because I don't ship that way. Apart from that, they'd feel good. They're complex, they're mysterious, and they're completely opposites.
Yeah, the teasing is fun. Nicknames are fun. The "Kurogane chasing Fye with a katana" thing is fun. But in those serious moments, they sort of understand each other as warriors/fighters they are. Words are unnnecessary, since they both get to the same conclusion. They're a great team, the cat and the dog, when they make a truce.
Me like. And again, a blond and a dark.

Ack, that's something I forgot to say when I posted about them! It's going to end, and they both know it's going to end.
Love your reasons for liking Kuro/Fye, too. They have the right balance between seriousness and crack.

Sorry but...
Sometimes I want to whack Roy in the head since he doesn't seem to realize he has all that he might be looking for in his office. Why the hell is he wasting his time dating women when the perfect one is right besides him? He needs to open his eyes: she's no longer a mere subordinate, she's something more.
WTH?
I hate when people believe Roy is oblivious. He is totally not. He has shown plenty of times in his Roy-ish and subtle way that he indeed thinks of Hawkeye as more than a subordinate; the whole "Will you follow me?" scene was meant for that, he didn´t ask anybody else and he wanted to make sure that Hawkeye knew it was her choice, that she shouldn´t stay with him just for work (he had just stated that he no longer separated personal and professional just a couple of lines before, hello? innuendo much?) but more on a personal basis. And he let Hawkeye see his weakness in front of Hughes´ grave because he feels comfortable enough with her to share his personal feelings.
Really, I just see very clearly that Roy knows he loves Hawkeye and probably she knows it too, I don´t feel any kind of tension between them on this subject. They know they love each other and are comfortable with that.
And what dates? Really, Roy has this womanizer legend because people doesn´t pay enough attention to canon. Do we see him in any actual date? Just once, in The Assesment Chronicles and that was because he knew he was being spied on and because he wanted to piss Havoc off (Hawkeye´s display of jealousy there signifiying that it wasn´t something he did usually). On the same story it is stated that he has recieved about 300 love letter from woman in East. The ONLY FRIGGIN´ WAY of keeping all the women in one town in love with you is by absolutely NOT dating them! If Roy went screwing around with the whole city soon women would resent and hate him, not love him. They love Roy because he is unreachable, because it´s an ideal.
(actually Havoc has dated more than Roy has, even if Lust were with him only for "work")
And whenever he talks sexily on the phone is with Hawkeye, as clearly seen in chapter 37. With no one else. (And this subtle kind phone sex really show us how at easy Roy and Hawkeye are around each other, which wouln´t happen if any of them were oblivious).
Roy is subtle but really... the desperate rush at the end of 37, when he thought Hawkeye was in danger? Risking the whole Barry operation because he couldn´t risk losing her? How ballistic he got when Lust told him she was going after her and Al? How beautifully relieved he was when he saw she was okay? How worried he was in the hospital because she looked defeated and really she needed the speech about her mistake like woah? And how wonderfully he put her in good mood saying he was going to count on her again after that?
*shakes head*
I could go on with examples but then I would turn this into a ship_manifesto. It just pisses me off royally that people thinks he is oblivious. Roy is as far from oblivious as I have ever seen.
P.S: Please don´t hate me for this comment; I didn´t want to de rude or something just that your words wounded me and my single-Roy-mindness.

On the other way, I believe he did go to dates in animeverse. Not sure though. Yeah, I know it's not canon for you, but still, I remember he stole Havok's date there once.
I don't know if he's oblivious or not, but I felt like he was: it's my personal perception of it. Then again, I don't go and think about Roy as much as you do because I'm not obsessed about him (I'm not obsessed over anyone in FMA, actually). If he did feel like you say he does, then why doesn't he express it in a more evident way? Sure, the Lust afterscene is quite shipping, but after that he's either too busy to confront Riza or he really doesn't care that much, since the feeling is gone for me. The "will you follow me" line can be interpretated in several different meanings. Not necessarily in a romantic way. I still don't think there's a solid proof Roy loves her back; just innuendos, like you said. And innuendos are not always a real thing.
It's been ages since I've reread the manga (I have to rely on scanlations, not books) and watched the anime, so my memories are blurry.
Again, I'm sorry I offended you. Now I'm regretting I did this stupid meme.

I didn´t mean for my comment to sound so bitchy, really.

That´s one of the few things that are canon about the anime, cause it´s taken directly from The Assesment Chronicles and it´s more clearly stated that Roy only goes out with her because of the surveillance and to pick on Havoc. In the anime this is also implied.
But please, please, don´t feel about the meme; it´s fun to rant about ships and characters, that´s the point of it. If we hadn´t diferent opinions we wouldn´t have anything to talk about. Uh?
Will you forgive if I offered a cookie? XD

And I mostly agree about Kurogane and Fye, except I do ship it as sex first, friendship second (I like antagonistic relationships... and I like FyexKuro better than KuroxFye).
One question! I guess I've sort of fell out of the loop in CLAMP fandom, so I've heard of the Mokona book, but I don't really know anything more about it. So, are there translations somewhere? XD

I told you. I think Roy is awesome, but he's not my alpha and omega. I leave that to Estefanía and yourself. That's why I don't stop thinking about what is he thinking. I still think, trying to give your reasoning a chance, those reasons support my "she's no mere subordinate" but it doesn't mean love. He could see her as a true friend, and that could still justify everything.
I'm just genuinely sorry, OK?

I don't think Kuro could be the dominant/seme with anyone ^^U But they asked me in that order.

I laughed at the "all the extreme yaoish wank in the fandom" because I´m a yaoi fangirl and yes, sometimes we get waaaaaay out of hand.

Well, of course, but then I could say the same of her and her reactions and argue that Hawkeye is oblivious; it all depends on how you choose to read it. But that´s why I love FMA, Arakawa is so subtle that she always leaves you wondering.
In other news: your take on Clow/Yuuko WOW. I want to read your ship_manifesto. I can totally picture them as having this kind of sexual tension and snarkiness, very much like a 40s film comedy, and the one-night-stand part (woah, is it hot in here or what?) very plausible too. I´m sure Yuuko still resents Clow for going and dying and ruining all the fun.

Crap, you give birth to a plot bunny! Now I have a vision of Casablanca!trenchcoat!Clow in a bar saying "play that song again, Sam" or whatever it was, with a whiskey in his hand.

OMG, the mental image! Clow all drunk and telling Yuuko off for... whatever he thinks she´s done this time, and Yuuko being all cold and distant but wanting to shag him senseless deep inside. It would be tragic! It would be stylish! It would be in black & white!
Please, somebody write it.

PS: I always say Remus/Sirius because I believe it makes more sense with Remus as dominant.
no subject
So do I, actually. There are several canon moments where Remus shows he's the Boss there. ;) But most of the fandom sees it the other way around...

(Lucky you didn't mention H*v*c/Hawkeye...)But... oblivious!Roy also drives me seriously nuts, because it's a pretty extended theory and I get angry when I see it. Lots of people are so Hawkeyist, they just through Roy aside and diss him as being oblivious to Hawkeye's obvious and undying love (reminds me of Mulder/Scully and the scullyists). And... well, Zau already said everything I think and in a more articulate (and scary) manner.
I don't know, Hawkeye is not a person who shows his feelings easily. Why is Roy considered clueless, and not Hawkeye? She doesn't take a step in clarifying their relationship any more than Roy does. And she has already show that she hasn't got a problem as to speak to Roy ignoring he's her superior.
I'll stop now, please don't freak out? I know we are pretty scary fangirls, but we attempt no harm, I swear. Thank you for answering the meme, much love to you :3
