Tsubasa Chronicle #12: in which you fangirl over fathers

So. For a filler chapter, you'd assume they'd be faithful to the manga... not.

So Syaoran goes and swims at the lake, looking for the Fucking Feather (tm) [que por cierto, es fascinante el cómo puedo hacer aliteración en palabrotas con el mismo objeto en DOS idiomas distintos XD /Spanish]. Sakura just glances at the fire, doing nothing, since there's no TV in that world either. Isn't that unfortunate? Probably Hanshin had television and they didn't notice.

The stupidiest thing in Bee Train animation, ever, happens there (yes, including Yuuko's character design AND the Pink Glow of Doom). Syaoran gets out of the water, and we only know it because of the splashing sound, since we only see the water waving. Yes, no water flying or anything, but that's not the worst part. Then we see Syaoran walking towards Sakura, and he's not wet. At all. He's not dripping, his clothes and hair are dry. He's just... like he came out of his house's living room instead of a lake, really. And I don't really know if his house DID have a living room, but you get my point.

Aaaaaargh. Stupid animators. Now Syaoran became more of a Stu, considering the bloke won't get burned, bruised or even wet. Argh.

They kept the "Syaoran is invisible in Sakura's memory about the birthday" thing. Remember this part. Remember it well.

Chibi-Syaoran has teenager-Syaoran's voice. Was it do hard to get some children and preteens to voice characters in flashback, really? Anyway, they left the "I'll give you my birthday" scene. For some reason, I thought chibi-Sakura was a bit obnoxious instead of cute. Must've been the facial expressions.

Then we got to the Fujitaka scenes. They merged both memories into the same scene. I didn't like that, since Syaoran wouldn't be thinking about his father later on, when he sees the underwater city. Bad Bee Train, bad!

Not as cute or sweet as CCS!Fujitaka; he didn't even feel like TRC!manga!Fuji. Then again, nobody feels like their manga canon counterpart, so he's actually fine compared to others, although stiff. He's really hot, though! Too bad he wasn't smiling in a kind way when he was talking about his dream. He was smirking half the time. What is he, channelizing Eriol Roy Mustang, too?

The seiyuu was good, though. Again, the animation messed the character up a bit.

It's night, and something is shining at the lake. In golden, not pink. It's now the whole lake shining like there's a lamp in there. I guess our sun-fish is nocturnal. Syaoran goes to swim, and the water looks yucky as it's half yellow (eww); he doesn't care as he'll never get wet. Then the fish (who looks like a white whale with a CLAMPish little jewel in its forehead [Mokonafish?!]) goes to the border of the lake and meets Sue Sakura.

The Mokonafish has shiny, purple eyes that looks like it's doing "mekyo", and speaks to her. Yes, the stupid fish talks! It asks Sakura why is she there. She blinks, scared. Mokonafish, who has a granny sort of voice, repeats its questions as it notice the human is dumb. Sakura has no idea, so she limits to babble "watashi... watashi wa... watashi..." until she fels on her knees totally ripping Ishida Uryuu's angsty scene off and passes out. Poor fish, I feel sorry for it. Canon-raped AND forced to dialogue with that pod.

Then she dreams with his father. So guess what time is it, boys and girls! Yes, Laurus, you can use them for whatever if you want.

He would've been almost perfect if they didn't kill off the mystery allure with one of the worst voice castings ever. No kidding, the voice was not Clowish at all. It was like a 18 year-old guy in a boy-band voiced him *headdesk* Still... yeah, I thought he looked hot, with the volume off. [livejournal.com profile] gingetsu is right: he looks too young to be him. Maybe Elihice is right and it IS Eriol?

But Clow the King wasn't the worst part, no. Bee Train suddenly empathizes with Sakura and gets amnesia, forgetting about following the logic exposed 10 minutes before. And they do THIS:

*headwall* WHY THE FUCK IS HE VISIBLE AT ALL?! Hiding the face is not enough, she's NOT SUPPOSED to see him! They're contradicting themselves!! *cries*

Anyway. Back to the... er, supposed plot. If they actually do have one. Syaoran sees the Mokonafish above him. He's such a Stu he won't do bubbles when he swims, his voice sounds underwater when he gasps, and heck, he never needs to take more air.

--- Eyecatch. Sue-kura ---

The KuroFyeMokona scene was not funny. And the "imitation" was lame and obvious as it sounded like the seiyuu was on pixie stix. Woe.

Mokona is really annoying. Can we switch her with the Mokonafish? At least it doesn't try to act funny when it's not. Heh, Syaoran asks Mokona not to scare him, and he doesn't change the facial expression so we never see him scared or surprised. Stupid Bee Train animators.

Sakura's laugh... as annoying as Mokona's bad acting skills.

Like I said last week, Syaoran took Sakura to the lake. Holding hands. May I puke, please? Sakura swims like a Sue just like Syaoran. He shows her some fishes, making an analogy with the bird flashback. Mokonafish appears and glows. And they keep gasping without letting oxigen out their mouthes ¬¬u

The city looks like a model, and I'm tempted to make a Holy Grail joke on it. The weirdest thing is, it looks in color while S+S are all blueish in the water. Huh? It looks like the city has a shield over it. Still, it looks weird. Then our S+S (standing for Sue+Stu) go "swimming" up (they look like their flying, since there are no bubbles). Mokonafish goes in front of them, and the poor animal becomes a ship device as it's forced to participate in the shippiest, corniest scene. It asks Sakura (telepathically, I assume, as Syaoran doesn't seem to hear them) the same question. Sakura says (well, thinks) "I'm here because..." and then gives a significant look to Syaoran, who's all "what? is there algae in my head?". Ugh.

So let's complete the phrase for her. "I'm here because I'm the goddammed love interest, duh." At least she admits it. Sort of... Mokonafish seems either satisfied or annoyed by the pseudo-answer and leaves, dropping its scale.

Back to the shore, Kurogane can't believe there's a small city with small people, since they didn't get to see anyone inside it. Syaoran goes and quotes Fujitaka ("there's more than what it meets the eye" or something). According to Fye, Syaoran seems happy even after the whole fiasco, and he keeps quoting his dad, but I think he's not happy because of the archaelogical mystery findings, but because he held hime's hand. Stupid hormones.

--- Next episode preview: Jade country. Kyle is black-haired and with dark blue-black eyes. That's not cool. Not cool AT ALL. *weeps* At least Emmeraulde glows in golden.

The rest of the screencaps is here. Only took Fujitaka and King of Clow ones, though.

He does look too young, but compared with the train wreck that's the rest of the cast he's pretty well done. ♥ Same goes for Fuji... although, Fujitaka? Smirking? *does not compute*

Don't worry so much about canon, it's been dead from the beginning anyway. *sigh* I have the feeling that they want to give Sakura more brains importance, but it's too early and they're just making her look stupid.

Yep. He's actually really hot looking good, in my opinion. Still, the voice didn't help: it didn't feel like Clow. I thought I was drooling over somebody else. Same with Fujitaka when he smirked.

Anyway, I was the only person in the fandom looking forward to this just because of the parents showing up. When your concept of fanservice depends on middle-aged men with children, it's because you're odd XD

[identity profile] laurus-nobilis.livejournal.com 2005-06-28 12:51 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a good way of being odd! XD At least we don't get a million rabid fangirls to give us a bad name, like we would if we fangirled over Fye or someone like that.

...not that I don't fangirl over Fye...

Tsubasa anime Fujitaka looks almost exactly like CCS anime Yukito...

I must find out if Tsubasa anime is broadcast anywhere in the US. I am envying everyone who has the ability to flick on a TV set and watch it...

[identity profile] rainmage.livejournal.com 2005-06-29 01:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Nope. Japan only. It's still been broadcasted in Nihonland.

[identity profile] feuille-verte.livejournal.com 2005-06-30 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
Hum... I wasn't convinced when I saw the first pictures or screencaps from the anime. Now, I am really not sure I want to see it (well, the fact it will probably never been aired here in Switzerland greatly helps).

*sighs* Adaptations can really suck sometimes.

It depends on your level of fanatism, I think. I like the manga, although some cliches annoy me sometimes. Still, I just download it because I'm masochistic and I have nothing better to watch on the weekends.

But you're better off with just the manga, to be honest. You're not missing something extraordinary. And your OTP (checked your profile, yes) was neutralized like you have no idea, because Bee Train is full of Tomoyo fanboys who ship her with Kuroppi or something.

[identity profile] feuille-verte.livejournal.com 2005-07-03 05:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh... I think I will stay with then manga then. I just love the art and all the cute SD faces. Tho it is not my favorite manga from Clamp...

Oo;; The baka... They miss the most funny moments of the manga. *sniffs*

[identity profile] silma.livejournal.com 2005-07-03 09:14 am (UTC)(link)
*pat pat* At first I thought the anime wasn't like SO bad, but then again:
1) Never read the manga, except for a few bits in scanlations. Note to self: Must buy some manga volumes
2) I never really analyzed the animation quality, pero OMG !!!! You're SO RIGHT !!! La animación realmente apesta !!!
3) I like the ending song... Wait, this isn't relevant here...
3b) According to what I've told [livejournal.com profile] feuille_verte *points to comment above hers* and what's she's told me about the mange, the anime REALLY doesn't follow the manga well... U______U That's really sad...

[identity profile] rainmage.livejournal.com 2005-07-03 02:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, well, realmente apesta. Creo que es la peor adaptación CLAMP que he visto, aunque la verdad no las he visto todas. Bee Train took a lot of "artistic" licenses. Just craptastic.

You should get the manga, definitely. It's not the world's best series, IMO, but it's amusing in its own little way. Even if it's just to spot crossovers and laugh at the Mokona/Fye/Kurogane situations. bwys.net have a lot of translated scans, you know.

[identity profile] silma.livejournal.com 2005-07-07 10:34 am (UTC)(link)
*pat pat* Que mal... Después de todo, CLAMP ha hecho unas series muy buenas, y es feo verlas tan mal adaptadas. ;_____;

Sip, lei los scanlations doe bwys.net.

Btw, is TRC manga translated in Spain ?

Yep, up to volume #7. XXXHOLiC is up to #4 (@#~$%& gimme my holic 5 now...)

[identity profile] feuille-verte.livejournal.com 2005-07-03 05:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Nyuuuu... It's only translated to vol 5 in French ! UU and xxxHolick to 4.

[identity profile] silma.livejournal.com 2005-07-07 10:35 am (UTC)(link)
Wow !!

No. Es. Justo. Quiero. Mi. HOLiC. Ahora!!

No me importa cómo vaya Tsubasa. Porque mi amor es HOLiC, el otro ya se ensombrece a su lado.

[identity profile] silma.livejournal.com 2005-07-08 11:26 am (UTC)(link)
