When you use the sail as a flying carpet....
Last night, I watched a really bad Hong Kong action flick. I didn't understand a thing, not only because the plot, if it existed, was on crack. It was the fact it was dubbed in German so I'd understand about the same as if I watched the original audio with no subtitles.
God, it was baaaaaaaad. Not even the fighting scenes were any good. It was like the guy in charge of the sfx had watched Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon AND Power Rangers before working on them. The low budget was extremely obvious when people went jumping and flying all the time. It was historical, meaning all the main characters wore old Chinese outfits and sailed on Chinese ships. But it was so close the Contemporary age, they used cannons and fought with Japanese samurai (with all and armors, and assorted pseudo-geishas with shamisen) and Spanish conquers (I shit you not! All the white extras playing the Spanish had the same cheap, fake goatee XD They even had a Catholic priest praying in Latin, with a chalice in one hand.)
I didn't need to understand the plot to know it was cheesy. The main character died in the end, but it's no problem as the love interest (who was a whore, by the way) died before him. And the antagonist went and cried over her body in the end; considering she was a woman, it looked extremely femslashy.
Anyway, it was the most ridiculous movie I've seen in ages, and I just kept seeing it for mocking reasons (it's funny to make up what they're saying!) Really, I laughed a lot. Or maybe the fact it was 4:00 am that made it all funny.
Okay, now to fangirl business.
- I finally read Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. So good.
- I still haven't found a pirate version of Eldest. Damn.
- Some cute CLAMP sprites here. Of course, not that I biased because the fanartist made some of my favorite ones... I swear to God, Kimihiro is like based on Eriol's, but with a different hair and Kurogane's frown. And of course, Rikuou is Doumeki with different hair, but we should expect that.
- Made a search for Ling in the Pit of Voles. Wanted to do Lan Fan as well, but that's more complicated due to spelling issues. Anyway, I found 3 fics with him. One of them was a LingxEdxRussell love triangle O_o Now I wonder, how the fuck can that even work? Ling doesn't exist in anime, Russell doesn't exist in manga. It's just... mind boggling. The other ones are Ling/Lan. One of them is a Royai with slight L/L, and the last one is in Spanish. I haven't read either yet, so no clue if they're good. Not related to this, but for the global interest. I saw an Elicia!Sue fic (with her very own Stu boyfriend), and a Xing Stu. Yikes.
Yesterday I posted a poll. If you're bored and you know my fanfic works, why not filling it if you haven't already?
