[CLAMP] Caterpillar and Cheshire cat
Title: Caterpillar and Cheshire cat
Fandom: XXXHOLiC/CCS
Characters: Eriol, Yuuko
Pairings: implied Clow/Yuuko
Genre: Crack, romance
Rating: PG

That night, after Watanuki left, Mokona's eyes opened wide, and the gem on its forehead shone. However, the face the image reproduced wasn't from anyone on Syaoran's group.
To her annoyance, some familiar eyes glared at her from behind a pair of spectacles. The boy looked younger, and the hair was shorter, but it was definitely him.
Curses.
"Good evening, Yuuko," he said. "It's evening over there, right?"
"How the fuck, Clow?"
"It's Eriol now," he reminded her. "And I remember perfectly well how Larg works, so it was easy to hack its system. And speaking of Mokonas, it seems chubbier than I recalled. You should put Larg on a diet."
"That's not your problem now," she growled. "The kids look prettier when they're round, anyway. Besides, the boy cooks too well."
"Yes, I'm aware of that. He's cute when he's angry, by the way."
"That's 90% of the time. But you're not contacting me again because you want to talk about my friends."
"Ooh, busted. Indeed, I'm here to talk about business."
"Cut to the chase. I hated it when Clow went in circles, and it seems your half kept that trait."
"Alright. Clow's green sleeping clothes."
"What about it? It looked stunning in him."
"Yes, and it wasn't in the box you sent me."
"Oh, you wanted those PJs? I thought the books were your priority."
"The deal was all or nothing."
"I sent you everything I had. Besides, you checked the box before you paid."
"There's something fishy going on here. You say you didn't have it, and it wasn't at Clow's old house."
"Remember what you told me when we made the deal? How you expected me to sell off all of Clow's things?"
"...I do."
"Too late," Yuuko shrugged. "Traded the pajamas for a very expensive jug."
"Oh. Well, I should've known. It doesn't matter; I just wanted to know where it was."
"My friend will take care of it. Eriol?"
"Yes?"
"I confess it pained me to let it go."
"Just the pajama? Or the stuff it used to contain?"
She shook her head.
"Everything."
Eriol gave her a sad smile.
"She wasn't the only one, I can assure you."
"Hitsuzen." She bit her lip, and avoided his gaze. "Thank you for the letters."
"Did you keep the replies for them?"
"That's also not of your business anymore. You know," she went on as she reached for her pipe, "a spirit told me last summer I collect hearts."
"You don't? You at least owned one."
"It doesn't matter anymore." She inhaled.
"But you're collecting the memories."
"Your half got all the annoying parts."
As she exhaled the smoke, Eriol's face disappeared. The last part to go was his smirk. Caterpillar said Cheshire cat good-bye at last.
