taotrooper: It's a polar bear dancing the hula; your argument is invalid (Touya/Yukito are not pleased)

I've been containing too much

The whole poll is doing great. I'll be posting the second part next week, I think. That way, people won't get sick of me so often.

However, I'm restraining myself of cynicism in my work. This is a serious scientific investigation, and I can't be subjective and point at votes. It's what they taught me in my last high school year and I'm sticking to it.

It's hard, though. Really hard. My lips/fingers are burning.

So, for tension liberation, may I present you this: Sakura-hime takes the generic Mary Sue litmus test.

Why? Because she's so speshul. And some questions are just made for Syaoran, so he'll take the test one of these days, too.

+++++++++++++++++

The Name

+ Is the character named after you (this includes your first, middle, and last names, and any nicknames or online names you use)? [20 points] We don't know CLAMP's real names, so we don't know if this is entirely false. We'll take it a s a no.

+ Is the character's name an unusual spelling of a more common word or name? [3 points] Sakura is an actual name, so I'll add 3.

+ Is the character's name a noun or adjective not normally used as a name? [2 points] Sakura is a common name, so no.

+ Does the character's name contain unnecessary hyphens, apostrophes, or other punctuation? (e.g. M'chelle, Gloria-Angelica, etc.) [4 points]

+ Does the character have more than one first, middle, or last name, without reason? [3 points]

+ Does the character have a name you really, really like? [1 point] CLAMP likes sakura blossoms way too much. Clow Reed likes Sakura. Fujitaka likes Sakura. Nadeshiko likes Sakura. *adds 1*

+ Is it Raven? [3 points]

+ Is it a variation of Raven? [1 point]

+ Is it Hunter? [5 points]

+ Does the character's name describe her/his personality? (e.g. Tristan means sad, Darcy means dark, Charity means charity, etc.) [1 points] Cherry blossoms are pretty and pink. *adds 1*

+ Is the character's name just generally unusual in relation to the time or place where she/he lives or grew up? [1 point] I haven't seen a cherry tree in the desert... *adds 1*

+ Does the character have a nickname or pseudonym? [1 point] Little kitty. And hime.

+ Is it a "dangerous" nickname (e.g. Death Dealer, Crimson Fury, etc.)? [3 points]

+ Is the character's name foreign, even though the character isn't? [1 point]

+ Is it an Asian name? [2 points] Then all Clow characters are Sues... *adds 2*

+ Does the character have a name or nickname that corresponds to a mythological/literary/historical/etc. figure (e.g. Venus, Faustus, Bonaparte)? [1 point]

+ Is an otherwise chaste or stoic character immediately attracted to her/him? [3 point] Syaoran is way serious *adds 3*

+ Does the character have an unusual eye color, or otherwise exceptional eyes? [3 points] I have no clue if green is speshul in Clow...

+ And are these eyes a color that does not occur in nature? [1 point]

+ And will they have something to do with the plot? [2 points]

+ Does the character have eyes that somehow reflect hidden depths or experience or sorrow? [4 points] Sometimes, yeah. *adds 4*

+ Is the character a fashion plate (this applies to any style of dress, from preppie to goth to Western to Elvish, and so on)? [2 points]

+ Does the character dress in a manner you find particularly attractive, sexy, or cool? [1 point] From CLAMP's point of view, she likely does *adds 1*

+ Even though it's illogical for the character to dress this way (for monetary reasons, for instance, or because it interferes with her/his job)? [3 points]

+ Is the character ever described as "thin enough to be anorexic," where this is intended as a compliment? [1 point] No, but she IS way too thin and in anime she never eats the stupid apple *adds 1*

And the score is... 107 points!

71 points or more: Irredeemable-Sue. You're going to have to start over, my friend. I know you want to keep writing drawing manga, but no. Just no.

I'm not the one saying it! It's the test, people. Meanwhile, I know sometimes I call her Suekura, but it was just teasing and/or being sarcastic.

[identity profile] ayasugi-san.livejournal.com 2005-09-21 07:24 am (UTC)(link)
I think you fudged some of the points, but with a score like 107, that doesn't matter in the long run.

Fanon!Sakura could probably get a perfect score, if we graded all her incarnations at the same time.

What do you mean by fudge? I know a meaning for that word, but it doesn't click with this post...

[identity profile] ayasugi-san.livejournal.com 2005-09-21 09:01 am (UTC)(link)
Messed up, basically. Think Cornelius Fudge and what he was like in office...

[identity profile] rainmage.livejournal.com 2005-09-21 09:02 am (UTC)(link)
Why did I mess up, in your opinion?

[identity profile] ayasugi-san.livejournal.com 2005-09-21 09:07 am (UTC)(link)
If your character exists in an otherwise normal universe

That section is for non-magic world v. magic world, so she probably shouldn't have gotten any points there, as Clow country does have magic, even if very few people can use it.
ext_387179: A sea turtle swimming (Default)

[identity profile] rainmage.livejournal.com 2005-09-21 09:10 am (UTC)(link)
I take a non-normal universe as the one where the majority (at least 50%) of the population has some sort of special powers. This is, however, not the case in Clow. That's why I'm taking that as a normal world.

But if you want to do it that way, then she gets only one point for each in that section. That means I'll have to substract 6 points. 101. Still Sue.

That's why I said it didn't matter. She's got too much working against her for technicalities to pull her out of Sue-hood.

It might be satisfying on some level to see whether we could find a fanfic for each Sue-point on that test, but we'd probably end up wanting to kill someone...

You know, maybe you or Cygna should make a CCS Sue Litmus test. It could be interesting. Pointless, as the argument won't work with the Suethors, but interesting.

An "Are you really writing CCS fanfiction?" litmus test would be more accurate, as we don't have too many OC!Sues. The canon!Sues, on the other hand, and the complete disregard for canon truths beyond names...

+ The sole heir? [1 points]

What about Touya? Since they are siblings, they are both heirs, just that Touya is the king for being older...

No, she's Touya's only heir to the throne right now. I'm talking about Sakura in the present. In the present, Touya is already the king so he's not an heir anymore.

And I understand Sakura wouldn't normally be in direct line to the throne. It's just that Touya doesn't have children and never will because he'll elope with Yuki so she's the closest one to be the next queen. If Touya had a kid, he or she would have priority.
