Now that I'm more relaxed
About FMA 53:
Even if it was a rather creepy vision, I'm actually relieved Al's body is there. While I never liked the "Al is Pride!" theory, I'm saying it because nobody is manipulating or using his body for anything. The body is there, safe and sound (not exactly healthy, of course, but the fact it looks like that makes it believable, more or less), so Father or any homunculus can't touch him.
Now the body itself, supposedly soulless, reacting and having a mind of his own... that's rather strange. Unless it acts of pure instinct, or there's a small fraction of Al's soul that stayed inside. I mean, the sad smile in the end... *ded* Of course, I thought maybe Truth was animating him, but the smile felt so... Alish. Dunno. Perhaps I shouldn't try to think so hard about this. Trying to understand the things at the Gate is always futile.
They break my heart so much, the Elric brothers. I love them both so much.
Now back to homunculi. Every time we get new information about Father's actions, more scared I am. Clearly, the part about using Xerxes for the Philosopher's Stone makes incredible sense, if you stop and think about that. It's like those anime antics of sacrificing a whole city/civilization over again, but I personally failed to see it. At least, not as an action provoked by the bad guys. I imagined Xerxes had an Atlantis/Pompey kind of disaster or they had destroyed themselves. Then again, maybe Father convinced them to destroy themselves. Xerxanhuman sacrifices alchemists? Is Amestris doomed to follow their path?
And there's the Fuhrer thing. They trained a bunch of orphans in combat and leader skills, and then injected one by one a philosopher's stone in their bodies to see which one would survive and become the Fuhrer? That's so disturbing. They had it all so planned, even the name. You'd wonder, now, if Wrath seized the power by himself, or the Father faction did all the dirty work for him just in case he'd fail. Meanwhile, it makes sense the rest of the candidates for Fuhrer were killed. I mean, people with the same or superior skills than the future Fuhrer and with TMI in their brains would be dangerous to the plan. You know, destroying the evidences.
I'm liking the theory about Father not being Hohenheim after all, and this one is either a clone|twin|son and/or Pride himself. Because yeah, they don't behave the same and Father doesn't behave like Hoho. Unless, you know, he has a heluva double personality or something. Or maybe he has two minds living in the same body.Wait, I realized I'm applying CLAMP logic here. Doesn't make a lot of sense, yeah. But there's something odd about Father as Hohenheim alright.
The question now is, how are they going to escape now from that lair? I mean, from being locked with Envy they passed to being locked with Envy, Gluttony and Father! Are they going to be used like they'll try to use Roy as well? Will Scar and Mei help in the runaway, considering they're some sort of enemies right now (including the Ling/Mei sibling rivalry, because it's rather obvious for everyone and their panda that Mei is the princess of the Chan clan)?
All and all, whoa. Awesome chapter. It's been so long since we have new, shiny, creepy canon~to fry our neurones with

I'd never heard about the "Al is Pride" theory! O_O Wow, I must be living under a rock. As for the body's reaction, I think it's what you said - a fraction of Al's sould must still be there. It didn't seem like just instinct.
The Xerxes thing is very, very scary. And confusing, because when they first showed the ruins I thought they looked really old, so I also thought about an Atlantis-like thing too.
I never thought I could actually feel sorry for Bradley. I hated him almost as much as Envy, and now... whoa. There's a whole new layer to him, now. Of course, the hate/not-hate thing will probably be resolved depending on what he does with Roy and company.
I like the theory of Father =/= Hohenheim, too, mostly because
Aaargh, I don't know how am I going to wait a whole month to find out how they're getting out of there. :/

...can you believe I never thought of that? o.O And it makes so much sense.

Actually, I don't recall the Al is Pride theory, *feels dumb* can you explain? I was really glad to see his body at the gate, there's still hope of getting it back! The first thing I thought when I saw that it was moving on it's own was that part of Al's soul was still there. Hmmm, Al doesn't remember the gate, does he? So maybe those memories are left there? Or something, I dunno, it makes my head hurt to focus on it too much.
I feel a little bit sorry for the Fuhrer, but I still don't think I like him. Of course, the person I dislike the most would have to be Father. I don't know if Father and Hoho are the same person, maybe it is *goes back to CLAMP* like Seishirou from TB. In public you think Hoho is friendly but then in the lair he acts like his true self. And once he's got everyone there I don't think he would revert back to his nicer side to fool them, he must have something in store for them in the very near future. I dunno though, that seems pretty simple to me though, and I don't want them to be the same person. He looks older than Hoho to me, so im hoping they're like, brothers or something.
So what is gonna happen next chapter? I wanted to see what happened to everyone that got reassigned, but this takes front seat to that. I do want to know what they are gonna do with Roy now that the Fuhrer's history has been revealed. And I had always thought that Mei must know Ling since they showed up at the same time in the manga, they probably are related, I want to see how that will work out. *sigh* Another month...
