That's 10 times, not counting the supposed practice in Yamano.

While the "he was learning how to whistle" theories are interesting, I'm still doubting in whether he was faking it or not. I don't know. I'll have to wait next week, or next exposition time, to make a good judgement out of it.

From looking at the raw of the latest chapter without translations (and my Japanese is poor), I gathered that he did his magic partially by whistling. So I'm wondering if he 'couldn't whistle' because when he whistles, he does magic? Or he only uses whistling while doing magic or something ...

There are text translations already, but they don't clarify that part. He still has some explaining to do.

I thought on those same lines at first, but there are also some theories going around in which Fai didn't use the magic that way before, and he learned how to whistle in order to do magic through it. I still don't know whether I disagree or not.
