I'm so, so, so, SO glad Yuuko is back in action. I missed you so much! T___T Meanwhile, I'm the one of the rare people in fandom who loves Yuuko because she's so Yuuko-ish and amazing and funny, and not because she provides D/W subtext. Sigh. Recognize Yuuko beyond that, for Mokona's sake.

OMG MAHJONG. It brings me back to Gohou Drug in a good way. Heck, even in the way Watanuki gets the tiles over his head while losing, just like Kazahaya. Of course, Yuuko and Kakei must play mahjong together like the BFF they are. Maybe she got the idea of playing mahjong with her boys and embarrass Watanuki in the process from Kakei himself. *stabs more bunnies*

No offense, but your words sound like some of your fellow shippers would just like her slightly and only *love* her WHEN she drops hints or teases Watanuki over.

I've seen Yuuko-heavy chapters in which no one fangirls Yuuko like in this chapter.

I'm not generalizing you all. It's just that some "donuts" shippers' attitudes scare me. This manga, last time I checked, use gay hints as fanservice and character development and not as the plot or reason-de-être.

It's so very true that there are those who can only love her when she fanservices. Their lost. Yuuko is awesome for her whole personality, she's the one who attracted me to Holic. She's so misterious and almighty, crazy and crack-y, what's there not to love?

Exactly! Mind you, I love Watanuki, but Yuuko slowly became my favorite character. She's just so... unusual and exuberant. Like I was telling Yuuto-kun, she's not only the drunkard witch Watanuki has to work for. She has so many layers and roles.

And she fangirls obscure animanga series and owns a rubber duckie. She's the dorkest thing I've seen in CLAMPverse ♥

I'm not sure about that. Sure, i'm not saying they don't like Yuuko, but we have to admit there's a fraction of the "donuts" subfandom who have their shipping glasses so put on they see everything and everyone's purpose in the series as subtext hinting. Sadly, Yuuko (is such a shipper and) has done so much to tighten the link between the guys, I wouldn't be surprised some people would actually believe she has exclusively a 'celestina' role in the series (don't know how to translate that.)

Because Teh Reason Watanuki has to work for Yuuko is in order to get Doumeki's cock in the oh-so-near future. Didn't you know? The akayashi and supernatural crap is just an excuse to set the buttsex up! [/sarcasm]

Incidentally, I think Himawari is even more of a D/W shipper/hinter than Yuuko herself.

Yeah, I was thinking about the fandom as a whole when I wrote that, and truth is I try to stay away from the rabid shippers. The people I've seen doing it say "Hey, Yuuko dropped a hint again!" in a similar way that I say "Hey, there's Watanuki's meiotic smile again!". It's like an extra treat. ^_^

Himawari ships them like whoa. She's been dropping anvils since at least volume 4, if not earlier.

However, I don't see the shippers being so joyous when Himawari goes "The two of you ~~look so hot together~~ get along so well! *sparkles*" Is it because Yuuko is a more reliable source, or they just hate her because Watanuki finds her attractive? Man, as creepy as Himawari is, she's agreeing with you, so unless she turns evil or a plot device you should listen to her and respect her. Also, her kitty version of Watanuki rocks.

I was just saying "mahjong solitaire" because it's a merge between solitaire (Clow's fanon game) and mahjong (what Yuuko has played in canon). As far as we concern, if we tell we ship "strip mahjong" in XXXHOLiC, people could say we ship Yuuko/Doumeki/Watanuki~~/Mokona~~. Um.

We need to make that populatr. It's better than 99% of the pairing names out there. "Pumpkin pie"? "The Government Stole My Toad"??? And I still don't get Donuts, though that one did start as a stupid in-joke and then grew big.

I find The Government Stole My Toad sort of cute. It's still more original than most of the purple prose-filled or name-merged ship names in that fandom.

It's really stupid. I eat Donuts as a Snack sometimes, and I let me tell you I don't ship either D/W or Sirius/Snape. I liked the Japanese ship name version, 104, because it's short and not so idiotic.

If you think Mahjong Solitaire is a nice name, we should go for it and make it the next Donuts. It's still smarter than, say, Alcoholic Love or Tequilashipping. We can't even use initials because it could also mean Clow/Yue. Merging won't do since Cluuko or Yuuklow sound just ugly.

Or we should stick to Clow/Yuuko?

I think we can get away with Mahjong Solitaire as an in-joke. It's not like we're popular and it'll invade the fandom.

Which, by the way, is what happened with Donuts - I was there when it was born. A girl in my flist started it as a joke ("if Harry/Hermione can have a stupid name like Pumpkin Pie, I can call them Donuts!" or something along those lines). And then it was all over the fandom and she was all "uh, I was joking".

I know that. Sometimes I check the flistflist, and I saw when lazulisong was all WTF because they took her seriously. She was also linking the original entry that day, IIRC.

I join you in that, Yuuko is FAR more than just a catalyze agent for Watanuki/Doumeki (which to me is so "...whatever")

Yeah. Yuuko has so many and complex functions in CLAMPverse sometimes I feel they understimate her a bit as a character. She might not be the main character in neither of the series she's in, but she's like an axis who keeps the plots together. She's not even just a drunkard woman who just lives to tease and torment ~~the uke~~ the easily annoyed boy who works for her. I don't know. You can like her or dislike her or be indifferent to her, but do it taking this into consideration.
