taotrooper: It's a polar bear dancing the hula; your argument is invalid (Soel & Larg / awesome book)

The one who lets me out shall suffer. There!

I had to go to the hospital today to take some X-rays. I took a chance to take a walk around. Oh, and I bought CCS #2, so the collection is complete! Yay!

In a bookstore I was stopping by today, I glanced at this book ("Japanese graphics now!") and it blew me away. The Japanese publicity art and their product packages are so awesome. I have absolutely no idea how much that book costs there because it had no price tag, but I'm not sure I want to find out. But it's so creative!

In other news, I finished Castle in the Air last night. OMG I LOVED IT. That book made me squee so much it's not funny. I didn't expect it to like it so much, considering a lot of wankers complained because "it's not a Howl sequel and the story sucks". But honestly? Even if the plot looks cliche at the beginning, and Aladdin-like, it certainly has so many great twists it's lovely. And the HMC character cameos were good enough as they were for me. (Well, except I wanted to see some Michael/Martha, but they were nowhere to be seen. I guess they were in Market Chipping, and since the whole finale is around Kingsbury they didn't appear?)

But really, I love that book as much as HMC. And OMG so many OTPs! Of course, Howl/Sophie were so cool, as usual ♥. But also Abdullah/Flower-in-the-Night, and Beatrice/Soldier, and who can I forget Suliman/Lettie. Hell, even Dalzel/fat girls! XD So much fun, that book.

ETA: Also, I cannot believe they just pulled a CLAMPverse.

"Why not go to another world?" he [Howl] suggested. "There are many hundreds of other worlds, you know."

Now every CLAMPverse/Howl-verse crossover can be justified.

I find it strangely amusing that you call "pull a CLAMPverse" is what I call "pull a Star Trek" XD

That said, now I want to see Howl and Fye exchanging beauty tips. Or your "switching maids" bunny!

Well I've never been a trekkie, so my first pure contact to canon AUs was Tsubasa.

Howl would be frustrated at Fye because he's a natural blond and he doesn't need beauty charms to look so shiny. But they'd still bond and be BFF because they're both slippery cowards who only do things when they're forced.

I know. I was amused at my own nerdyness. ^_^ (I'd love to say I got the AU/crossovers thing from Ende, but it's all from ST...)

Of course they'd bond. And Kurogane would be frustrated at having two silly wizards around, and Sophie would be frustrated at everyone because she's the only sane person in the group.

Ah I just got Castle from the library the other day. I'm glad someone liked it as I'll probably read it today or tomorrow.

Don't expect a real sequel, though. The main characters aren't Howl or Sophie, even though they are quite involved with the main character's problems.

I think so many people get disappointed is because they expect it to be eeeeverything about Howl. And it's not.

Oh no, I didn't expect it to be a real sequel although that is how I was introduced to it. If anything the first few pages have remined me of the Horse and His Boy.

I would pay a great deal to see a well-written Howl/CLAMPverse crossover. Have you ever read the Chrestomanci novels, or The Homeward Bounders? Those two are also some of DWJ's best, and they would work really well with TRC or HOLiC.

Castle in the Air was terrifc, even though I would have liked more of Howl and Sophie. But it was still hilarious.

Awww, not yet, and a DWJ fan in my flist recced me that. I've found out the Chrestomanci series is (been?) translated to Spanish, so maybe it'll be easier to access to it. I have no clue on the other one.

I had enough with the share of Howl/Sophie (wouldn't be mad if there was more, of course!), but it's sad to think they aren't in any other Jones book. I'd love to see more Ingary-based (or any other country in that world, really) books with Howl and family as minor recurrent characters of sorts.

The Homeward Bounders is one of her lesser-known novels. It's about people who are hurled from their homes, forced to walk from universe to universe, until they can find their home. Similar to Kurogane only instead of exiled by pretty princesses, they're forced by these mysterious people who are intent on playing games with the worlds.

It would be nice if she turned it into a series, where Howl and Sophie or one of the other characters make cameo appearances.
