Tasty nightmares, yum

I bought the external HDD yesterday. Not the model I wanted, 250GB, since they were sold out; had to settled with a cheaper 150GB one. After the efforts of making a plug available, and several experiments to see if the files can be accessed from both Larg the desktop and Soel the laptop, it's working fine! So there you go, Spinel Sun the black USB hard drive unit! (E: in Soel, S: in Larg)

Someone plugged a manga in [livejournal.com profile] free_manga with an intriguing summary (then again, the person got me before it just by saying "If you are a big fan of anime/manga such as Mushishi, Jigoku Shoujo, XXXHOLiC and the like, this is a must-read." That's, like, all I needed. [It also reminds me, aestethically, of the few chapters of Sakura Kinoshita mangas I got to read, but I digress.])

I just read all the scanlations of Yumekui Kenbun by Shin Mashiba, and I adored it. It's supernatural horror, basically, and really serious with no comedy relief to back it up. The stories tend to ranging from WTFBBQ creepy to awww fluffy, or both at the same time. The art is strange, as it looks more of a doujinshi style than a professional one, and the sometimes childish faces of the characters contrast with the gothic, antique backgrounds and the bizarre stories. But it still looks really nice, and in volume 2 you can see the mangaka's natural improvement like in every series out there.

Meet Hiruko, the baku. Baku are creatures who feed on nightmares and have different lives from humans (can't eat food or drink beverages, don't like sunlight, can die and be reborn like phoenixes). Hiruko lives above Ginseiken, a teahouse belonging to a human girl called Mizuki. Because of that, the place has a sinister reputation. Every night, people would go there and ask Hiruko for help with their dreams. Apathetically, he accepts only if the client gives him the nightmare in return (the bloodier, the tastier!) So the manga consists on short stories about the clients and their nightmares.

Occasionally, we get to know more about Hiruko's nature and Mizuki's background, although some clues are still not clear. Like for instance, what's up with the suitcase he carries around. Or his relation the other mystical shop on town, Moukyoudou. Basically, it's a pension targeted for obsessed people in which by entering a room you can fulfill your fantasies (which obviously can be more dangerous than it seems: be careful what you wish for). The owner and "key", Kairi, is soooo hot ironically a dorky daydreamer. How did Hiruko meet him? How much does Kairi know about the baku and how did he help him?

Oooookay, this is getting long O_o Well, if you want to read a creepy manga any day, I totally recommend Yumekui Kenbun. I'm hoping more scanlations will come out, because it's surely getting interesting.
