Some things to consider
A. Today's Penny Arcade amused me to no end. And that even before knowing how the new Final Fantasy, which I'll probably never get to play or at least not until five years from now, works. But dude, old-school Mario. FF style!
B. Uh, Evangelion movie series in the works. That sort of scares me quite a bit. The fact sort of the same people who were in charge of the TV series and EoE are around supervising and working on it does not calm me. I mean, dude, look at EoE!
C. However, they'll make a new Kino no Tabi movie, and that makes me glee! :D Somehow OT, but that poster is hot. Srsly.
D. It's been a while since I download HOLiC anime in general, now that I think about it... Screencaps of XXXHOLiC #21. If after this people still wank over the "het pushing", I'll whack them in the head. Repeatedly.
About the episode itself: Er, borderline filler except for the toenail thing. But there's a lot of stop that bothers me. I mean, artistic licenses in anime are cool and dandy, but I can't help but think anime-only fans will start to have strange ideas from the characters that were never hinted in the manga, like for instance:
D.1) Watanuki can actually wear normal clothes at home. Granted, we've never seen him in his apartment in manga except for the childhood friend arc (I can't remember seeing a TV set in the living room, but he could've bought one any time anyway...) But really, manga!Watanuki wears his uniform all the fucking time except in festivals and temple-shrine things. Hell, he even went to the dates with the twins in uniform in both canons. I actually like this license since it doesn't really contradict things much, and Kimihiro in a blue tee is so cute.
D.2) Watanuki (and Doumeki) reading manga. Fine, it's not contradicted by canon, either. Also, reading manga in Japan is almost like reading newspapers and novels. But what scares me is that people could assume Watanuki is a hardcore manga geek just because we see him following ONE series. I foresee fics in which the fanbrat writer will make him read Naruto or any shounen (or shounen-ai! or yaoi!!) series the author loves. Pepperjack cheese ahoy, matey. Arr.
...Okay fine, so I'm still resented because the only one who isn't shown swooning over manganime in anime canon is the character who's the REAL manganime geek in manga canon *coughs* I don't know why P.I.G. feel they can't be having the adult, wise character fangirling over obscure series. Dude, I adore Yuuko BECAUSE she's also a geek! It can't be copyright issues since they kept the Nobita joke, so... I dunno, Yuuko's characterization is screwed.
Meanwhile, that made me wonder if anyone has written Kurogane reading shounen manga, besides me, in their fics, or they just forget about it as Fye/Tomoyo/Mary Sue/whoever smexing has more priority or anything. But I digress.
D.3) Doumeki BARGING into Watanuki's apartment just like that. That seriously creeped me out. First, Doumeki is not a stalker or someone who'd use the window instead of the door. That's Yuuko, k? He'd knock on the door first if he went to Watanuki's apartment to bring him meat for... whatever reason P.I.G. made up. I know he's a bit stealth ninja and suddenly appears behind Watanuki to annoy him, but this is a tad too much.
Also, since when Doumeki knows his address? It certainly isn't like that in the manga. Watanuki goes to his house-temple, not the other way around. Creepy.
Which is too bad, because if it wasn't for the sneaking-stalking thing, I would've find the boy bonding really cute ^^ Oh man.
That's all the bitching. Either way, I wonder what's up with the hoof!hand dream O.o Symbolic premonition or food gone wrong in the stomach? And why is volume two of the manga in Yuuko's storage? Didn't she charge him extra for borrowingher manga stash er, I mean, a random thing that she doesn't read because she's too cool for that, and happened to be there?
Manga still pwns. It's less random in its, uh, randomness.

I hear you on that. I mean, I don't mind that they included that in the anime, it's a pretty normal thing to do and Watanuki seriously needs to relax once in a while. But crazy fans tend to look at something that happens once and use it as a Law Of Nature.
... oh well, that's not the anime's fault, really. It happens in every fandom. Though I wonder why it doesn't happen with stuff *I* like. Where is Yuuko's dorkiness in fandom? Where's the rubber ducky???

Probably they thought nobody except the vintage otakus would get CLAMP's in-jokes, so they cut that stuff. After all, she did say she followed the mahou shoujo series the board where she met internet-addict lady was about. Since that was a made-up title, it wasn't really an in-joke.
But still, Yuuko being only dorky when she's drunk is... yeah. It's not the Yuuko I love, at least. It's your random, happy drunkard.

Anime on DVD has a brief preview of the first novel up. (http://www.animeondvd.com/reviews2/manga/manga.php?manga_view=2794) Though I'm still annoyed they aren't translating the title to english. It's not like it'd loose anything in translation by calling it "Kino's Journey." It sounds fanish leaving it alone- especially since they're pushing for wider recognition.

I'm annoyed over the title AND the cover, myself. Still, I'm so going to import the English novel whenever I have money (in October we'll have the largest manga con in Spain, therefore the companies are releasing every manga volume I want to buy that month *sighs and glances at wallet*). I've been waiting for translations forever!
