I still owe some character love meme, and I'm working on it

But meanwhile, here's something proven useful.

Comment with the name/title of a fandom I'm aware of, no matter how obvious you think the answers will be, and I'll reply you with the relationships -canon or not- from it I ship. Just one comment for fandom so it won't get messy, as I'll link all threads in the main post. You can comment as many times as you want to, though. Also, you're free to reply in subthreads and ask me why I ship or don't ship something. Just be reasonable and don't act wanky.

But here's the interesting part: I'm linking this in my profile page, and I might re-reply to anyone months later, when my ship preferences changed. I'll compromise not to delete my previous replies, no matter how embarrassing, so we can see how much I've changed with time. However, I'll be free to freeze any subthread I want to, when my opinion on it is not valid anymore. Also, I'll have this meme going forever, so don't hesitate to return to it any time and ask.

For platonic ones, read this post.

Errrrrr. I just said I'm starting to like E/K more than before. Is there something wrong with my English? I typed it early in the morning so... maybe I expressed myself wrong? I was pretty sure I said I was growing fond of canon.

That's the whole point of writing *that* E/T XD It's just for annoying people. I mean, there are more than one character with their name starting with T (Tomoyo, Touya, Takashi). So labelling "E+T" should be vague as hell in theory, but since every fanbrat writes Eriol/Tomoyo badfic it just became standard. I'd never ship Eriol/Yamazaki seriously since I like him better with Chiharu, but I think Eriol had lots more chemistry with him than with Tomoyo in canon, platonically speaking.

.........No offense, but how do they even work? I can't see them with any of the girls you just listed. Especially Sakura. That's dating your own father, in a way.

*rereads* Ooops..... my mistake, I didn't read thoroughly.

lol. That's the problem with alt pairings. You have to get a... feel for them. They work like this (Eriol/Sakura, not especially romantic, but it's there), this (E/S crack, that I expanded the first fic from), this (Eriol/Meiling), and this (Eriol/Tomoyo).

I took the [livejournal.com profile] 15_pairings challenge, and it broke my brain. Canon pairings? Who needs 'em? (kidding)

You'll have to excuse me if I don't read them. Not to be rude, but I only read non-genfic from the pairings I like a lot. It's not only in this fandom, but in all of them; I'm always picky with what I read. And my brain still breaks from the idea of Eriol liking his other half's daughter like *that*, and not only E/T is against my religion but also I don't read Tomoyofic at all.

Canon pairings? Who needs 'em?
*sees her list of CCS ships* Apparently, me? O_o

[personal profile] pleonasm 2006-10-16 04:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't blame you, I do the same thing. (They are pretty long, too, except for the crack one, which is a drabble.) In fact, I don't read hardly any alt pairings by other people at all. No one writes them! Except for bad E/T fic. I'm surprised you don't read anything with a Tomoyo focus, though. That's a little strange.

The canon pairings think was a joke. I love all the canon pairings, but I'm not set in stone to them. Except for Touya/Yuki. Anyone who breaks up that pairing is crazy...

I'm the oddball in the fandom since I don't believe Tomoyo is the best thing since sliced bread. Actually, I've always been indifferent towards her character. And since I don't ship Tomoyo/Sakura, and Eriol/Tomoyo makes me want to kick puppies, and genfic about her doesn't hold my interest, I can't see reasons to read about her.

One thing is liking crack, but Eriol/Sakura is borderline incest, technically (okay, so almost every CCS main/popular ship is borderline incest, with the Amamiya cousins and the Lis being related to Clow who also founded the Kinomotos; still, it's like dating/kissing/fucking your niece). Unless incest is your kink. Then I see the point, but otherwise no.

Truth to be told, I think I read more gen in this fandom than pairings right now.

[personal profile] pleonasm 2006-10-16 05:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Where can you even find gen in this fandom? *sweatdrop*

No, I'm not fond of incest. I just tend to think of Fugitaka and Eriol as being two separate people, you know?

Laurus Nobilis writes good gen. There used to be gen around when [livejournal.com profile] tsukimineshrine was at its golden age. Gen exists, if you know where to get it. The Pit is a different story, of course.

Nobody said they are the same person. Fujitaka still is half of Clow, though. He's still a Clow with different hair and eyes, technically. It's like hitting on your twin brother's little girl, except slightly less creepier since he has no adult body yet.

[personal profile] pleonasm 2006-10-16 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I have read all of laurus's stuff, it is good.

Hmm, I see your point about Fugitaka and Eriol. I can understand how that would squick you a bit. I will now try not to think about that too much when I finish my 30_dreams challenges... -.-";; Still, I don't know, I see potential, even if it is weird potential, but I write a lot of dysfunctional relationships.

[identity profile] laurus-nobilis.livejournal.com 2006-10-16 05:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Just out of curiosity - do you consider pairing between cousins as incest? I know a lot of people do, but I can't bring myself to think of it that way. Marrying your first cousin was common until very, very recently, and it's legal in a lot of places... (Also, I can't consider anything written by LM Alcott as taboo, really :P ) It doesn't bother me at all, but apparently I'm in the minority about this. I can't remember what you think about that.

But that paragraph was just an explanation for this: Eriol/Sakura gives me more incest-like vibes than Sonomi/Nadeshiko. Even if they're not texhnically related, his attitude towards her is very fatherly. That's why it creeps me out.

[personal profile] pleonasm 2006-10-16 06:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Attitudes can change. I don't know, maybe reading Lolita corrupted me. Initially my thought is to squick MORE for Sonomi/Nadeshiko. Maybe because Sonomi is so obsessive about it? I would never marry any of my cousins, but if someone wanted to and it didn't lead to birth defects (which I think it does), then I'd say go for it.

Hmm, I'm learning some scary things about myself here.

[identity profile] laurus-nobilis.livejournal.com 2006-10-16 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, but I'm just saying it squicks me. And with CLAMP, there are always canon pairings that squick me too - hello, Terada-sensei! I'm sure it's possible to write it believably and handle the change of attitude, but I'm probably not going to like it anyway... It's a pairing I just can't see.

Sonomi is obsessive, true. In fact, in her case I'm more worried about the "obsession" part than the "cousins" part.

[biologist mode]There is a greater chance of *certain* birth defects if the parents are cousins, but it's not as bad as the "all babies born from first cousins have birth defects" myth. And if it doesn't happen very often in the same family, the odds of having a healthy baby are better.[/biologist mode] But that doesn't have anything to do with a reader's squicks, of course.

[personal profile] pleonasm 2006-10-16 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree with your comment here entirely, but I didn't want to not reply and have you think I wasn't paying attention. ^^ And Terada/Rika is a little squicky to me too, so I don't write them much.

[identity profile] ayasugi-san.livejournal.com 2006-10-16 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
"all babies born from first cousins have birth defects"

Please don't tell me that people actually believe that.

[identity profile] laurus-nobilis.livejournal.com 2006-10-16 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
...

Will you feel better if I tell you it's crazy, pre-teen people from a forum with really low standards? And who are just looking for excuses to bash Shaoran/Meiling to make way for the sacred-and-already-canon-anyway S/S?

[identity profile] rainmage.livejournal.com 2006-10-16 06:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Who, me? My family never taught me "values" on not marrying cousins. I was never taught whether it was right or wrong. It didn't help that my first cousins were all adults when I was a kid and all lived in different cities. All my cousins' children could be my brothers, and I don't know any of them well.

I think in Venezuela first cousin weddings are taboo. I didn't know it was something "dirty" until I attended school. However, I'm not sure if they think it's wrong because it's their ideosyncrasy (sp?) or because they copied that from the American culture.

But I don't see nothing wrong with cousin weddings since I was never brainwashed against it. Just like I never thought people saw homosexuals as "icky eww" until sixth grade. That's because my mom was a flight attendant, and a lot of her male co-workers and friends were effeminate or plainly gay.

[identity profile] laurus-nobilis.livejournal.com 2006-10-16 06:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, I just wasn't sure. ^_^ I've seen a lot of people in fandom saying cousins = incest and I can never remember who's who... (Especially in the HP fandom. Harry: Maybe Tonks loved Sirius! Fandom: EWWWW! Laurus: It's legal in England!)

Also, and off-topic: I love your Fantasia avatars. ♥

It's funny, since most of what I've seen of the HP fandom is pro-first cousin. Particularly the [insert Sirius or Regulus]/[insert Black sister] smutfics, which ironically wouldn't have bothered the relatives considering the family tree...

I know, they're the cutest thing! I snatched them from the same person. There were also more pegasus (pegasi?) and unicorns, centaur flirting, little angels, and one of the dancing goldfish.

Except if you're a Harmonian. They're anti-cousin, because OMG Harry and Ginny are both related to the Black family so they're related and OMG incest is ev0l!
