Wait what (or "canon" lesbian incest I'm missing)

True, I've only read RG Veda twice, but I really, really, REALLY don't recall seeing any Karura/Karyoubinga subtext. Like, ever.

I don't know, man. If you're not romantically involved with anyone, it's possible the most important person in your life (note: not in the CLAMP "my most important person ♥" shippy sense, but literally speaking, as in the person you care about the most in general) could be a close relative or a best friend you're not attracted to or even a pet.

This is not an anti-incest rant. Hell, that fandom in particular has CANON sibling incest (see icon for proof). It's just that I find extreme to say the couple said above is "canon" in a romantic sense, because I really can't see it. Not everybody is Setsuka Sakurazuka or "A" the psycho triplet. I mean, if you want to interpret that Karura loves her little sis that way, be my guest. But saying it's canon? Why?

I don't know, maybe it's a revolutionary idea, now that incest shipping is so trendy, that people can actually put relatives (as relatives I'll say parent-child, siblings, and uncle/aunt-nephew-niece dynamics; cousins and step-relatives and creator-creature are something else) above anyone and anything else without wanting to bang them or seeing them as their twu wub. I see Karura/Karyou as something like Ed/Al: their main goal in life is the other one's restoration. Karura fights for Karyou's welfare and happiness. But it's also that she gives me the vibe of loving her little sis also like a daughter. Single moms pour all of them into their kids. Have you seen how mothers in general, even animals, usually are when you mess with their baby? Yup, that's Karura. Karura for me is even worse than Touya's sis complex because she's raising her by herself. She's her baby.

So, you can interpret that as a Setsuka kind of motherly love or your average mom/older sister love, sure. But since when that's *canon* incest?! Did I miss something, or is fandom seeing shit that's not there?

Nothing about incest but it seems the only deep love some fans understand is sexual. So if two characters really love each other (like Ed and Al for instance) some fans automatically assume that it must be romantic. Platonic relationships always get overlooked.

That's a generalization, though. There are several sane Elricest fangirls who just like the kink and know that it'll never be canon. But yeah, I've seen idiots believing 'Edo' and 'Aru' are/will be canon, and making everyone look stupid. And there are canons like Ouran in which the subtext is done for the lulz on purpose, but the fans wish it was true.

But see, the problem is the fandom I'm talking about has had canon incestual sex (an emperor actually fucked his sister and she got pregnant; and since that was taboo, he locked the sister and the bastard for years in a dungeon until the woman killed herself and the boy escaped... so yeah). So I'm wondering if I didn't overlook a canon proof for those sisters or if it's wistful thinking from fans or if the mangakas left it open for interpretation.

Yeah I know I was generalizing. And with Ouran even though it was meant to be silly I do see where it comes from more than Ed and Al because the subtext definitely is there. There really is no subtext with Ed and Al. That is not to say that I am against people shipping this if that is what they enjoy.

As for the series in question I haven't read it so I can't say. Maybe it is one of those things that is open to interpretation? But it wouldn't surprise me if it was just a fan thing.

*facepalm*

the stoopid, it burns

Canon : that word you keep using, it doesn't mean what you think it means.

So it wasn't just me? For a minute I thought I might've missed something and K/K had a canon basis. They sounded so... convinced, adding the ship to the list of Canon CLAMP Incest Pairings(tm). And I was all "bzuh?? maybe I didn't read between the lines?"

It's about as canon as Sumeragicest is x_x;; Caring for your sibling doesn't mean you have sex with them!!

I'll admit I've only read RG Veda once, but I don't remember anything that made them canon. And like you said, there incest and pseudo-incest(*) in that series was pretty hard to miss. I think it's a case of platonic love being overlooked + CLAMP's history of canon incest messing with people's minds.

ROFL! Indeed. It's all parent & child with Yasha and Ashura, & then the child goes evil/adult-body and then gets saved by Kujaku's sacrifice - BINGO Yasha/Ashura OTP. Ummm...what? *laughs*

*rolls eyes* Yeah, I've known people to say that Kanoe is in love with Hinoto (just because Hinoto is the one she's fighting for). As you say, CLAMP does do actual real incest at times, so why go looking for incest where it is not there?

(Hmmm, come to think of it, I've noticed in a lot of fandoms a tendancy to depict "romantic" love as deeper and more meaningful than any other type of love *insert GRRRRR-face here*)
