taotrooper: It's a polar bear dancing the hula; your argument is invalid (Ducklings / quack)

This should unstress me

1. Comment in this post with a pairing, a character, or a threesome.

2. I shall write you back a paragraph explaining what I think about it (good, bad, indifferent) and why.

3. Let's discuss / argue / CAPSLOCK at each other about it! I only ask that you don't get insulted, angry, mean, or stupid.

Yeah, you can repeat the usual ones.

Interests+icons meme again. [livejournal.com profile] hamsterfactor asked me these:

discworld
The Discworld series is several groups of books written by one Terry Pratchett. I guess you could classify them as fantasy, because they're set in a fantastic flat world with magical elements and races, but it's also a parody not only of the genre but of human kind itself. They're hilarious, with awesome characters, and a good exponent of written Brit comedy.

ducks
I've loved duckies since I was little. I used to go to the park near home to feed the ducks at the pond. Then a dengue epidemic went by, and they got rid of them ;_; It was most tragic. But yeah, for some odd reason I find ducks cute, even with their tacky way to walk and the annoying quacks. And also, I really liked cartoon ducks like Donald and Daffy way more than their studios' respective icon characters.
And Mousse is the hottest Ranma character, and the fact he drowned in the duck springs helps him in cute points. There, I said it.

polar bears
I thought I had said this one already, but it was another meme. I like white animals. I like polar animals. I like bears -even if they're godless killing machines. So with the three of them combined, how can I not find polar bears cute? Besides, if you gotta root a predator, you might as well pick the largest one!
Also, the Coca-Cola Holidays commercials are so squeeeee.

That's Kujaku from RG Veda, my favorite character from that manga. I still like that icon even if it's old, perhaps because I'm fond of the way it turned out. The quote was from an icontest, and IIRC it's from a Shakespeare sonnet.

I don't talk a lot about Saiyuki even if I kinda follow it, I think. As charming (...or not) as the main characters are, this is my favorite group of characters. The red-haired one is the leader, prince Kougaiji, who had to help the baddies because they promised him to revive his mom back. Of course, he left them as soon as they messed with his little sister, who's the blonde girl. The other two are his followers, although they're more like his friends right now. I don't know, they won me over.

As I mentioned before, I love Daffy Duck. I found some screencaps of him, and I couldn't help but making a WTF icon of this scene, because that cartoon was hilarious. See it for yourselves, Duck Amuck.

The interests + icon meme? oh wait you didn't put it up.. sorry about that.

Errrrrrrr, I made it a couple of weeks ago? If I have to make a post for people to ask me every time I have to reply to the interests people ask me about, I'll never be able to finish this. It's really hard to come up with stuff to ask people others haven't already, and I was so glad when I was done.

Sorry for the rudeness. I was hoping for replies for the meme in the beginning of the post, and your reply caught me unguard.

Well, since you mentioned Discworld: Rincewind.

[identity profile] rainmage.livejournal.com 2007-05-13 09:21 am (UTC)(link)
I think I must be one of the few people who love Rincewind. So yeah, he's a coward and all, but that's his charm because he's the true do-not-want!-hero, and it's pretty funny to see how he survives all that shit they throw at them. He's a different character from the usual clichés, and that's why he's cool. Sure, his books are not everybody's cup of tea, but since I started Discworld with the early, crappier two books, it's also a nostalgia factor. He and Twoflowers introduced me to Pratchett and the disc, so I'll be fond of them even if it's for that.

[identity profile] laurus-nobilis.livejournal.com 2007-05-13 02:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I was surprised when I realized that not so many people like Rincewind. I love him too! D:

Everything I've thought of is stuff we already rant back and forth about on MSN... How about everything that sparked the icon?

[identity profile] rainmage.livejournal.com 2007-05-13 09:23 am (UTC)(link)
But what truly sparked the icon was the E/T and Harmonian shippers saying stupid things, and the meme is about characters or relationships and not its fanbrats. Can you be more specific?

[identity profile] ayasugi-san.livejournal.com 2007-05-13 02:28 pm (UTC)(link)
This is still sort of about fanbrats, but. How about the overly common Kaho/Eriol/Tomoyo love triangle?
ext_387179: A sea turtle swimming (Harry / I'll be waiting / teh_indy)

[identity profile] rainmage.livejournal.com 2007-05-15 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't like it because I think Tomoyo's interaction with any of those two (canon and fanon) is as interesting as watching paint drying, so threesomes or combinations Tomoyo/one-of-them are out of the question for me. Now, you ask me for love triangles, which only exist in the fans' vivid imagination as Tomoyo is an Eriol/Kaho shipper and all. You see, these love triangles? I haven't seen them well written and IC even ONCE. It's like you can change the character's names and you get any cliché shoujo manga or soap opera that has nothing to do with CCS. And nobody ever asks the guardians for their opinion, unless it's to make them proclaim how made of awesome and pwetty Tomoyo-hime-chan-sama is.

[identity profile] ayasugi-san.livejournal.com 2007-05-16 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
Hey, don't knock paint drying! Sure, it's got nothing on water boiling, but when you're bored and sleep-deprived, it can be damn interesting.

Tomoyo is an Eriol/Kaho shipper and all

*insert generic "it was a regretful smile!" and "Tomoyo can't cheerlead a pairing I hate!" fanbrat retorts*

And nobody ever asks the guardians for their opinion, unless it's to make them proclaim how made of awesome and pwetty Tomoyo-hime-chan-sama is.

Oh god, that part really makes me gag. The Guardians aren't the author's mouthpieces, fanbrats! They are characters in their own right!

KIMBLEE LOL!
ext_387179: A sea turtle swimming (Yuuko / lol internet)

Let's use this icon for irony

[identity profile] rainmage.livejournal.com 2007-05-13 09:35 am (UTC)(link)
Mmmmm. Hmmmmm. Uhhhhh.

Well sure, he's an awesome antagonist. He's seriously fucked up the head, and that's what's so appealing and interesting about him. Kimbley is not an airhead who just likes to see people go boom hi BONES, and that's a nice change. He brings the opposite approach to Ed's: killing is fun, homunculi vs. human is great to watch and it's worth being a tool just for that, the strongest should survive... I'm glad they gave him a good reason to be, besides being the batshit pebble inside Scar's shoes, in the last chapter.

Aaaaand that's the objective opinion. Because when it comes to feelings? I don't love him. I don't hate him even if he dispatched my boyfriend lol. I don't find him sexy. I might laugh a bit at the comedy relief but not that much. I mean, he's a great, complex character and all but... I don't really care much about him in general. I know why he's adored and considered badass, I see it, but I'm sort of indifferent.

You get all three~

Winry first, more later

[identity profile] rainmage.livejournal.com 2007-05-15 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm talking about manga because I really can't remember anime!Winry well. And I don't want to, even.

I think Winry is adorable, and I've liked her as a character ever since she first appeared. She has a hard profession but she adores it in this geeky way and looks forward to learn more and more, which is great. She's straightforward and passionate, but also she's a nice girl -yeah, you can be nice even if you hit your friends with a wrench in FMAverse- who's usually emotionally strong and smart. I think people is to hard on her just because she broke down once or twice, or because she's falling for the main character. But really, I think she's a balanced character, cute and strong and weird like all the Arakawa females. I'm really glad she's in the active plot now, because it makes dynamics go great, and the haters can suck it up.

Yuuko/Watanuki

[identity profile] rainmage.livejournal.com 2007-05-15 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
It can be summed as DO NOT WANT. I personally don't find it sexy at all, and it makes little sense without making at least one of them (or both) OOC. People think I hate D/W because I used to be very wanky about it two years ago, but it's not true: this is the one ship I can't stand in HOLiC. And no, I'm not saying it because I ship Yuuko with someone else. It's not because she's 37643876 years older. The reasons are I see Yuuko as the mentor figure who sees the main character as the children they never had. I think Yuuko considers Watanuki her baby who can cook for her, I give you that, and a lot of the things she's done are so he can change himself and his future, like a caring mom and not a potential lover. Personally, if this relationship was all about the master/slave-esque hot smexxxors, it would've been way more obvious in the canon.

Touya/Yuekito

[identity profile] rainmage.livejournal.com 2007-06-03 10:38 am (UTC)(link)
I like Touya/Yukito because they're sweet, and perhaps my first CLAMP gay pairing to like, and they understand each other so well it's awesome. I have a broken gaydar, and yet I knew they were into each other from the beginning -study sessions at Touya's bedroom helped a lot- so I felt rather vindicated that they became canon. Hell, the fact my first serious gay pairing was canon perhaps molded my 'thoughts on yaoi' the way they are now. But personally, I like my CLAMP pairings -het, yaoi, yuri, asexual/human, whatever- with a good balance between happy and angst, which explains why I'd rather these two over the 456376th scene of Subaru/Fay/Kamui/whatevs having teh woez while bringing the gay subtext with the big, black-haired seme. T/Yuki is more realistic to me.

Touya/Yue could have interesting dynamics, I think. It'll be rather hard for Yue to assimilate Touya's personality, between the fact he can see what he does when he's Yukito *coughs*, and this tiny detail: Yue doesn't know how normal people is supposed to be like, so Touya comes as a surprise to him. Think about it, his concept of adult men is Clow, and perhaps some random friend magicians of his master he's met, and that's hardly any NORMAL or SANE. So he might have some problems understanding Touya's behavior or why he's so nice to him or why he says such weird things or even why Yukito chose him. But in the end, he'll grow fond of him because he's a good guy, although it'll take a while. Touya already likes Yue and finds his stoic attitude amusing, so it won't be a problem for him to get to love him almost as much as Yukito. I'm not sure abour romantic or sexual dynamics, because that'd need a strong agreement between the three of them so no one gets jealous/cheated on, or refuses on the spot.

I don't like Yue/Yukito. I don't ship alter egos.

...why'd it have to limit itself to a threesome? If you're willing, Haruhi/any or every host club member.

Or, Kyouya.

Or, Scar's brother.
ext_387179: A sea turtle swimming (Akari / camera)

Hostorgy

[identity profile] rainmage.livejournal.com 2007-06-03 11:08 am (UTC)(link)
The thing with hostorgy is that a) I CAN'T ship orgies or gazillion combinations; it's not in my nature and I think a bunch of bodies in the same bed is the less sexy thing ever, and b) most club members make me want to crawl to my closet and raise a mushroom farm: I ship people only if I like both sides or the pairing because I'm odd like that, and I'd actually get easily annoyed by most characters if they were real people, since they parody character clichés I'm not actually into. The fact the only Haruhi pairing I like is with Tamaki has a strong reason: it's not because Tamaki is the only Ouran character I truly like to the point of believing he's the main character sometimes, but it's the fact he's the one who normally gets the strongest reactions from Haruhi. Sure, usually not positive reactions, but that's what's so fun about it! The other hosts get instant understanding from her, or fear, or honestly wondering what on earth is he really thinking, but not Tamaki: she respects him gradually and yet she still has issues with him, things she doesn't do for any host club member. There's a sense of growth in it. And hell, I want Tamaki happy after all the shit he went through, and he's in love with her even if he's in denial.

But since you asked for Haruhi/any, and I'm gushing over my OTP instead, I probably should explain why I don't find the other interactions any interesting.

Kyouya/Haruhi: I don't understand what's going through Kyouya's mind 99% of the time, but it'll save this for the other rant. The hints are too confusing to me. The rape sim was a creepy way to give her a lesson. After that moment of understanding at the mall, the interactions went back to the way they were. If Kyouya was any different I'd consider it, but no. Hell no.

Hikaru/Haruhi: Bias time - I hate Hikaru. I actually believe he's going through reversal development, and the more he falls for Haruhi the more he acts like a rude brat. I know the whole point of the twins is that they don't (originally) care about others, but he's just an asshat and not even in a good, cool way.

Kaoru/Haruhi: He'd always be self-conscious about Hikaru's feelings, and that's hardly any fun. Too much angst, and Kaoru isn't really that interesting when he's serious anyway.

Twins/Haruhi threesome: Not my thing, either.

Hani/Haruhi: ...not really? I doubt he's interested in her that way.

Mori/Haruhi: Even worse than KyouHaru because he's like made of wood or something. I know he's really nice and decent, probably the nicest or second nicest from that bunch of weirdos, but I don't dig the silent, woody type of characters. At least Doumeki TALKS, dammit.

Scar's brother

[identity profile] rainmage.livejournal.com 2007-06-03 12:36 pm (UTC)(link)
This is funny because he's really, really minor and stuff, and yet I have a crush on him. Hahaha. Well, he's pretty hawt and has that intellectual yet casual sexy looks going on. Also, he taught himself alchemy and rentanjutsu with BOOKS; how cool is that! It's like the ultimate Ravenclaw or something. And yet, he's really brave when protecting the ones he loves to the point of sacrificing himself, in an Elric way, which breaks my heart. The bad thing about him is the fact he messed up giving his majikul arm to his brother, considering he used it for becoming a murder. And all for vengeance over his own death, which is like this vicious circle of doom or something.
