The good news: In clamp2share, Card Captor Sakura manga raws!!! OMG OMG. I've wanted them for ages, and now I won't have to scan my volumes ever again. The icons I could make with these~~

The bad (for me) news: They started with the Magic Knight Rayearth cover lot now. Eagle. Next one will be Lantis, and so on. There's no justice T___T

Not for me, though. Must be a taste thing, since I found MKR!Eagle too dull, and Lantis too stoic-faced and IMHO, his brother >>>> him... mmm Zagato. For my taste in characters and bishounen, I mean. They're pretty to look at and all, but they never ticked me and I was never interested in their love triangle/threesome with Hikaru.

Now, in TRC? Dunno, at least Eagle is more interesting as a character because he's ambiguously moral, but I can't stand that world in general.

Then again, I like and dislike different kinds of characters most people do. The extremely serious/quiet, dark-haired, tall guys normally put me to sleep no matter how hot they're considered. My radar is broken XD

Yeah, for any purpose is also great! Besides the icons, and being able to check what people literally say provided I have a way to consult the phrase with, I'm glad as well for shrine images (oh, Eriol, when was the last time I updated you?) and website layouts. I just thought icons first because I signed up for an icon theme set ages ago (no, not the Eriol ones, some other for the general series) and it's convenient.

But I'm glad because not only I can do good(*) icons, but everyone else. Of course, 90% will still be of Sakura, but yeah.





(*) Good meaning "as good as I can make them", because I can't color icons well for shit.

I think I will make icons, but mostly for myself. Even when I share them, my approach to icons is more "what would I like to use?" than going for artistic/technical talent. I really admire people who can use Photoshop to the most, but I go for the simpler stuff myself. That's I love having good scans that don't need a lot of work. ^_^

I think my approach with iconmaking is the same I have with any other fandom activity I'm into. It comes out of three primordial reasons:
a) It's something I adore that most people don't care about, so there's a void when it comes to it. Therefore, I feel the horrible need to fill it, whether other fans are interested or not, because making it exist makes me as happy as seeing it exist from someone else. Example: minor character icons, gen or unpopular pairing fic.
b) Even if it's rather popular or fairly so, I want to show my love and the way *I* see it to the world. Example: my Eriol shrine, kimihiro.net.
c) I just feel creative or funny. Example: crack crossovers, pretty icons for icontests, bad jokes and memes applied to fandom (see: Clow-cola, mokona manjuu manip, Fay/Good Omens, Kyle/All Your Base, or Drosselmeyer/Rocks Fall).

It's kind of funny these days I'm not doing much CLAMP icons, and when I get inspired it's old or semi-obscure fandoms (I think it's #a and #b kicking in). Still, I do my best for them to look as nice as icontest icons.

I think that's the best approach, really. ^_^ The whole point of fandom is (should be?) having fun with stuff you love.

I guess I just don't care so much about icons because I know I'm better at writing, so my best efforts go to fic. With icons it's more like an "oooh shiny" feeling. I still want something that looks nice, sure, but I don't feel the need to work as hard as I did for icontests (and I very rarely ended up using the ones I made for contests, anyway...). If they're for my personal use I'm perfectly happy with a nice cropping and a border, heh.
