Naoki Urasawa + memes + HP = fun shit

1. Since the boxes from Caracas arrived last week, I can consult all my old books -textbooks, manuals, and novels- again. That includes 1-4 books of HP. So right now I'm flipping pages and rereading some scenes I'm feeling I should remember more frequently. Dammit, I could be reading my uncle's classics, like Count of Montecristo or The Portrait of Dorian Grey, but noooo, I'm opening the Chamber of fucking Secrets instead.

So, a couple of things:

1.1 Why the surprise about Neville "suddenly" having balls? Yeah, he was clumsy (to the point of being the center of jokes for the first books) and lacked self-confidence and would get depressed easily when nervous. But apart from some exact cases, he wasn't a coward. I'm not only talking about the Petrificus Totalus scene, no. After being bullied by Malfoy once, Harry and the lot comfort him by telling him he was worth it and should fight back. And you know what? HE DID. He confronted Draco and went all over Crabbe and Goyle (with lousy results, but he did fight back). Except for Snape, and that was because he was his biggest fear for some time, he always fought back. And hell, don't forget he had dueled his ass out for the three last books. It's been ages since Longbottom took shit from anyone; he's a motherfucking Gryffindor, hear him roar!

Also, DH is the practical demonstration of why Neville is worth 12 Malfoys (and several DEs, and one snake >D):

Neville on the final battle
+ Defensive maneuver with plants
+ Told Teh Dark L0rd to fuck off
+ Broke body-bind spell (true, the wand wasn't working on LV, but still)
- Was probably saved from flames by Harry's sacrifice
+ BROUGHT GRYFFINDOR DEUS EX MACHINA
+ DECAPITATED THE SNAKE

Draco on the final battle
+ Sneaked in and found the Trio (although Crabbe and Goyle helped and all)
- Was trapped between fire and had to be saved by Harry
- Was pleading for his life, and was saved by Harry again
- Was punched by invisible Ron

Not bashing Draco or anything... just pointing out that, during the last events of canon, he sucks compared to almost anyone.

1.2 Actual quote that cracked me out.

Tom's journal: Let me show you.

And all I can imagine is Tom Riddle going all LOLcats.

2. Any bad joke involving Nagini amuses me to no end XD Particularly "Snakes on a Snape".

3. Some facts about the way I imagined the book, and how Naoki Urasawa's seinen manga have scarred me.

3.1 Some time along the way, my mental Harry started looking less like a megane CLAMP rejectee and more like Kenzo Tenma from Monster. Maybe because he was a disheveled fugitive and shit.

3.2 I suspected (sort of wrongly) that the Hallows symbol was gonna be like the eye within the hand within the eye symbol from 20th Century Boys. Then I was wondering, half joking, if "Friend" would be making a cameo and wear the Hallows triangle.

3.3 At the end, young!Grindelwald in my head was having a Johan hairdo.

4. Not a surprise, but after the new interview thing with Rowling, I'm egging anyone available with my post-series Neville/Luna plotbunnies. *evil laugh*

Hopefully, next post won't be about HP. If anything it'll be about the dentist tomorrow DDDD:

At least he probably doesn't sound like him in my head... (Not that I'll never know, since he had no dialogues and stuff) His seiyuu creeps me out as Johan for a couple of reasons.

Yeah I definitely agree with you that Neville>>>>>Malfoy. In fact Neville>>>>>Most Characters of the Series

Malfoy is the sort of character who is more talk than action while Neville is a character who showed what true bravery is by fighting even though he was afraid.

I think Malfoy was underexploited, and I'm not even his fan. Or at least he ended up like all those characters who seemed so important or interesting, but then they get to stay at the background and/or get killed.

Re: Neville: I agree completely. Yesterday my sister and I were talking about how he's one of the best developed characters in the books. His awesomeness doesn't come out of nowhere, you can see how he slowly discovers it all through the books. ♥

The Grindelwald in my head resembles someone else (another character? an actor?) but I still can't figure out who. It's driving me crazy! It's not like "Laurus!Crowley looks like Laurus!Sirius!, or "Laurus!Kingsley looks like Michael Clarke Duncan!. I don't know where I've seen (imagined?) those infamous golden locks before... @_@

Neville has had it with these motherfucking snakes at this motherfucking Hogwarts.

I saw Johan as well. >>

Also, yes Neville is fabulous and worth more than twelve Malfoys. He's brave and well developed and turns out to be one of the strongest characters in the series bar none.

Neville/Luna plotbunnies? I'd love to write something for the pairing, but HP is so daunting.

Snakes on a Snape, the summer blockbuster with Matthew Lewis in the part of Samuel L. Jackson!

LOL!

12 Malfoys, at least 2 Death Eaters, and 1 Horcrux of Lord Voldymoldy.

Yeah, I'm also like that. I want to write something, even Lovegoods genfic, but it intimidates me too much D:

I'm so hoping she makes your icon's text canon. Not necessarily twins, but the naming part.

I'm not sure I disagree about the overall assessment but you forgot some bits about Draco. I mean he didn't shine, but he did risk his own life to save his friend Goyle (even if he had to be saved by Harry there), that counts for something.

I guess I didn't catch it in my first reading, but the RoR sequel was a bit confusing for me to imagine and understand. But yes, you're right, it counts.
