And now my HP ship has been Jossed, too

Oh well. It was fun while it lasted. Hopefully, there'll be AUs and pre-or-post-marriage fics around. I still found the chat nice enough, since it validated some guesses I had made about plotholes, and solved a couple of doubts I and other people had.

Still, goddammit! Why do you go and admit N/L was cute and made sense, and then you give Luna a random future husband?! That's toying with my feelings, Jo. And on Neville's birthday, too.

Anyway! Even if I'm not talking about Avatar in this post, I wanted to GIP this Teo-in-a-tank icon :D Because I can't wait till September.

And a last fandom thing to discuss today:

Okay, yeah, I can see it's not only mean they don't only dodge Watanuki's situation this week as well, but also decide to take yet another a goddamned hiatus. But see, this chapter is the kind of short story you read at the end of a volume. So, perhaps this is an end-of-volume filler? Does anyone know for sure? And if that's the case, I understand they wouldn't continue with the plot, because in HOLiC they don't leave cliffhangers in the volume's last chapter.

So basically, I'm not whining about it, even if the word hiatus is making me twitch a bit of impatience.

And really, I LOVED the chapter! ^_^ I can (temporarily) forgive those whores for dragging the explanations because they gave me creepy supernatural horror. Fandom, fandom, do you remember how the series used to be like this all the time? Do you remember the man-eating monsters? Do you remember how cool it was? I do, I do! And this chapter felt like that! You guys have snarky D/W bonding all the time, but if they give me crazy shapeshifting birds with knives? It's totally even better :D

The boys call the beings "niwatori", in katakana. And that, um, means fowl. So they were attacked by evil chicken spirits? LOLOLOL.

Also, the inn with the bamboo... Thank God it didn't have spring waters, or I would've gone all OMG SASA SANCTUARY FROM OKAMI. There has to be a myth about birds owning inns somewhere, because it's too much of a coincidence, but my Google-fu is failing me.

ETA: I give up on you, TFL.

But an Herbologist is kind of like a naturalist, right? And there's nothing saying Neville isn't descended from Scamander. I WILL CLING TO THIS.

Oooh new HOLiC

No, the guy she marries is apparently called Rolf. (I even misread the transcript and thought the one copy-pasting it had put "ROFL" between parenthesis to piss people off)

[identity profile] haro.livejournal.com 2007-07-30 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
O.O; I seriously read it was ROFL too. I guess I just did it naturally. I never even considered it was a name because I was reading so fast.

damn.

I take interviews as prompts: not really canon because it's not in the book, [general] you can go with the ideas if you like them but no one should bitch at you if you don't use those tidbits. So I'm planning to write Luna/Neville AND Luna/Rolf Scamander, because that idea is just too cute. (At least for the 0.00001% of fans who obsessed about Newt Scamander, ahem.)

I love the HOLiC chapter. I hate the timing, but the chapter itself is love. It certainly looks like one of those end-of-volume oneshots, but I've lost track by now...

The problem here is that I'm the kind of fan who takes interviews as canon. But really, I don't have a problem with it not being interview!canon, because that's what AUs are for. Besides, nothing says they never had a thing for each other before she met Rolf. I'm more baffled because JKR said a couple of days ago she sort of liked the idea of N/L a bit, so I didn't expect to be Jossed so soon.

[identity profile] laurus-nobilis.livejournal.com 2007-07-30 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Yup, Jo said she married later, so there's time for L/N shippyness in the meantime if you want to be really really strict. Although I honestly don't think that a completely Rolf-less fic deserves to be called AU, anyway...

(By the way, did you get my mail with the beta'd fic?)

I guess I said it wrong. It's AU for my definition of canon.

(Yup. I still haven't checked throughout the doc file, but I got it :D Thank you so much~ I'm amused you found it cute without knowing the fandom [but really, all the Celestials I used were dead by the time of canon, and their ghosts only showed up to give you backstory infodump before the final boss so... I had to improvise a lot, because they lacked personality in what they showed])

Aaah, get it now. ^_^

(I just wanted to make sure you had it, since it's so close to the deadline and everything. And it is cute! Nice fluffy gen, just what I like...)

It was a very good interview (the one with the most information yet). But there were some contradictions. There was no mention of Ron's job as an auror (but I suppose he could have became one later in life after working with George) and she called Snape a hero when in an earlier interview she said she didn't think he was really a hero but definitely brave.

Shame about Neville/Luna but I guess that is how she imagines it.

Yeah, I understood that Ron worked with George for a while after the last chapter, and then he joined the Auror department, most probably because of Harry plugging him in. I'm not sure if she meant that or not, but I thought that was the question (what they did immediately "after school").

The Snape thing is contradictory, though. Good thing I'm not a Snape fan, or I'd have a hard time figuring her words out. It's like the Sicilian guy in The Princess Bride, with the dizzy logic.

[identity profile] haro.livejournal.com 2007-07-30 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I think that what she meant was that, because the question phrased seemed to be what they did during what should have been their seventh year at HW. Later on she even affirms that Ron had a key role in revolutionizing the ministry with his future career, which obviously couldn't have been joke shop.

Notice that her answer there didn't mention Auror!Harry, but instead that he went to Hogwarts.

Also on Snape she said he was a bit of a hero during the full Dateline interview. I think what you're referring to was when she said 'Is he a hero? He did do some horrible things. (paraphrase)' She didn't say he wasn't I believe, just possibly that maybe fans were making him out too heroic? Which... I agree with. He may have been brave, but his treatment of Harry and friends was never justifiable. I dunno.

[identity profile] kirarakim.livejournal.com 2007-07-30 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I ended up missing the dateline interview. I totally forgot about it until 10 at night. D:

I guess I was the questioning the Ron auror thing because in this interview she also mentions what Harry and Hermione do later but not what Ron does. I guess she was being inconsistent. But I am sure Ron does become an auror later in life like she originally said.

As for the Snape thing well she does call him an anti-hero. Which I suppose sort of fits. I do agree how he treated Harry was wrong (he couldn't get past that Harry wasn't his father) but in the end he did end up caring for Harry probably because Harry ended up reminding him of Lily. However his heroic side was being a spy to protect Harry. Of course he was doing this for Lily not Harry and I am not sure if heroics or doing the right thing ever played a part.

[identity profile] haro.livejournal.com 2007-07-31 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah but she mentions what Harry and Hermione do in a separate reply. In the question with the joke shop, she talked about what should have been that seventh year- Harry going back to Hogwarts is what happened to him, Ron helped with the joke shop. She didn't say if Hermione went back or not.

Hermione's career was mentioned in a separate question- Katieleigh: Does hermione still continue to do work with spew and is life any better for house elves!

And Harry and Ron were mentioned in reply to the Hogwarts question. Harry being auror was not part of that answer, it only said he went back to HW. So with that one, I definitely think it wasn't so much inconsistency as not being totally clear (it was a chat and to be honest that isn't the only reply I found a bit muddled. part of it was the poor phrasing of some of the questions), because it says earlier up Ron was a big part of fixing the wizarding world, in reply to a question about the ministry. That of course would be the auror thing. She went into pretty heavy detail about the auror thing on the dateline interview.

Snape= Anti-hero, definitely.

I don't think it did. JKR outright said he wouldn't have done it if he didn't love Lily.
