Ya mama is a robot

I don't like mecha. Even classics in the genre overwhelm me, especially if it's all about the politics (hi Sunrise series!). I've given some a chance if they're unusual enough, but normally... unless it's stuff mixed with other genres, like Magic Knight Rayearth, I can't get into mechas.

However, there's one exception to the rule. Yes, I'll be the first one to tell you it's overrated, and the fanservice is a bit too much, and the creator is as batshit as the fanboys that worship this.

But people, I loved Neon Genesis Evangelion. I was around 16 when I met it, and it marked my transition from adolescence to adulthood (...or whatever it is that I am now O_o) like whoa. I can't remember the whole details of my graduation act, but I do recall watching EVA that night when I got home. I've always been a dysfunctional piece of junk, and you wouldn't believe how relieved I was to see characters I could identify with in some degree. Besides, I like conspiracies and mindfuckery. And penguins, too. And I totally think I suffer from the hedgehog's dilemma.

My first fansite was an EVA one. It sucked a lot, but it taught me HTML~ It had ugly backgrounds and animated GIFs, LOL.

What else? I liked both endings. I like Sadamoto's manga. HELL, I EVEN LIKE SHINJI A LOT <3 (who's like the world's most hated main character in anime after Miaka or something). I'm easy to please when it comes to EVA unless it's one of those shoujo AU mangas/games, because that's total shit.

Believe it or not, I'm so looking forward to Rebuild of Evangelion. Call me a fangirl, call me a sheep, but I watch the trailers and I purr. And now I want to rewatch the series so badly, except I don't have it. Oh well, time to remedy that. I should check it in Japanese for the first time or something. I spent all the afternoon youtubing the Renewal deleted scenes.

I never saw NGE (I know I am a heretic anime fan) but I know the basis of the whole story. I guess I was never really interested in it. And I saw RahXephon which has a similar storyline and didn't like it very much. Though I should probably watch NGE one of these days because of its huge influence.

And yeah I am not much into mecha either the only one I ever loved was Escaflowne and now Gurren Lagann (which is really a lot of fun and has great characters)

who's like the world's most hated main character in anime after Miaka or something

i think it´s Miaka and Seiya actually fighting for that position.

I think the main difference is that Seiya is hated by the 'mundanes' too. It's fun to hear non-fannish people bash a character from a show they watched when they were kids.

I mean, I watched a few chapters and he got a Honorary Position as Hamlet Wannabe in my Emogonists Dream Team.

I LIKED SHINJI TOO!!!

Of course i have a history of liking characters that are disliked by everyone as whiny or too naive or something^^

Eva wasn't a revelation to me, it was a cool anime which happened to be the only anime on TV at the time. It was still totally cool and awesome and really liked all the characters ♥ I liked the TV ending. The End of Evangelion (which I only watched years after) felt a bit too HELLO SYMBOLISM PORN for my taste.

I didn't know there were a new project related to Eva. When I wake up tomorrow I'll have to look up around it.

there are other mecha anime I liked. Patlabor. Escaflowne I love to mock but it's still watchable (if horribly cheesy at times). Generally speaking i don't like the genre either though. I even hated Goldorak when I was a kid.

I have the first three manga volumes of Evangelion, but that's about it. XD; I'm usually not into mecha either. It looks interesting, though! They're doing a sort of remake (and making new endigs?) with Rebuild, right? o_o

Jajajajaja pobre Shinji.

I actually liked Evangelion, too. Shinji was kind of annoying at times, but overall I liked him and thought he had a lot of development as the series went on, so I'm surprised to hear that he's so hated. XD;;; I'm not so sure about how good this remake is going to be (humanized angels? wtf?) but I'll definitely watch out for it and at least give it a try. :o

skjdfdkfj NGE is one of my favorite anime of all time. It sounds corny, but I've actually heard a lot of fans say it, but it did change me back when I watched it.

And god, I don't even understand how people can hate Shinji. He's one of my favorite characters of all time-- I just want to give the poor boy a hug ;_; I'm looking forward to Rebuild of Evangelion like I haven't looked forward to anything for a loooong time. I've watched the trailers like a million times each xD And I'm rewatching Evangelion to prepare. And Renewal deleted scenes wut? :O Holy shit I had not heard about those. I've ony seen the first two trailers. *off to youtube*

I like Sadamoto's manga. HELL, I EVEN LIKE SHINJI A LOT <3

And you're not the only one my dear~

I luv Sadamoto's manga even more than the anime. I Love Shinji because there are people like him in this messed world, and the fact that the main character unlike another main characters is a scared and dysfunctional child who wishes that his bastard of a father loves him :(

Luv EVA!

Add me to the list of "omg people that actually like Shinji", haha.

Though I never really was obsessed with Evangelion (I was with Escaflowne, on the other hand), I liked it a lot. I've seen it several times and even own the DVDs (I'm even considering buying it again someday, considering old Selecta DVDs are made of utter fail)... and I even like The End of Evangelion a lot.

Of course, I don't see it as an omg religion and I think that, yes, it's been overrated by lots of people... but I also think it's not the load of crap other people claim it to be. I think at the moment it was an amazing breakthrough for anime, it's amazingly well done in all respects and I think there's no doubt GAINAX put a lot of thought into it, and that's something I like. In any way, the huge influence its got to this day it's enough to consider it a landmark in anime.

Of course people can not like it. As for me, I thought it was interesting, I liked the diversity of the characters and lots of things were new for me at the time. And I also kind of like the manga version more, which is weird since I tend to prefer original works, but hey. Some day I'll keep buying it, lol.

I didn't know about Rebuild of Evangelion, but I must admit it looks seriously awesome.

I wanted to hug Shinji all the way through End of Evangelion, while my Mum wanted to throttle him ^^

Evangelion was actually the first anime TV series I watched in sub. Before I'd seen Miyazaki's films and several Pokemon seasons [that was way back!] but I'd never watched anything like Evangelion before! I was amazed. Cruel Angel's Thesis completely sucked me in to the point where I jumped at the 'CLANG' bit towards the end.

I actually preferred EoE's ending to the TV one, since it was more action-packed and the character interaction and emotion is stronger and more profound. Plus it has Komm Susser Tod! :D
