CLAMP post

Okay, I still haven't seen the scans because... duh. But this is giving me a headache and confusing me and depressing me. I just want to hug everyone and stuff.

Also, reading chapter 116 of TRC after this is LOL WHUT. Right before Yuuko starts talking about Clow's last words, there's a close-up of Watanuki. Now I'm wondering if by "the dream must end" they're not only referring to FWR's. Maybe it's several dreams. Just... Yuuko, all this talk about people's dreams is driving me mad.

First of all, SQUEEEEE! It's been years. It's finally all said and done when it comes to metacanon. And it pleased me.

Now, one of the things I've seen commented in my flist a lot: the books, and the "I know because of my learnings". See, I've always thought the Mokonas are clever -cracky and childish, but extremely clever you can't really be raised by Clow and/or Yuuko and end up normal, IMO. They're not drooling retards in their respective mangas: quite the contrary. So basically, them knowing stuff by themselves and reading lots of books makes lots of sense.

...Which is why the things shaped as Mokonas in the anime versions of both canons aren't, for me, Soel and Larg. That white Mokona can call itself a Modoki all it wants, but it's quite more annoying and can't recognize an alter version of the half brother. Now, don't get me started on that black Mokona! That thing wasn't only stripped of Larg's powers, backstory, and brain, mind you. It's like a fucking puppy on sugar high jumping off the walls with even less perception of the paranormal than a Muggle. It has the IQ of a real manjuu, and I just cringe at the sight of it.

Moving on...

The Clow/Yuuko interactions are lovely ♥ What's surprising is how the more we advance in the book, the less frequent the acid comments and banter are (onscreen). They just seem to get along better and better. You'd think that, because of volume 1, they'd have more visible issues as time passes by, but no. They're quite friendly. Which makes me think why on Earth Yuuko said she never wanted to see him again. I have a couple of theories, but I'm not sure. I might just wait and see if it shows up on canon.

I wonder if there are spirits of seasons in HOLiCverse. I mean, I know it's a Japanese way of speaking, but you never know. Maybe Clow and Yuuko were pulling an Yamazaki + Eriol routine on the kids when talking about Summer XD

About the Tsuki no Usagi: After roleplaying with Laurus, I sooooo want to write a crossover with Okami. It's like... moon's reflection on water *twitches* Except Yomigami would try to hit the Mokonas with his mallet so it wouldn't work XP

Nyantoro Panyan Banti. It's like every self-insert crossover on CLAMP no Kiseki ends up being in this canon. Unbelievable. However, magicians to be thought to be aliens: LOL! The mental image of Kakyou the cat attacking Clow manor is just random.

"Is it at all possible that the Mokonas are invisible when they're under the umbrella, but that the umbrella itself isn't?"
"...........Oh!"

That was EPIC.

Clow and Yuuko playing chess should be written. I've already read mahjong, so this one is pending. *tosses plotbunny around*

"It was very thoughtful of them. They told me they knitted them themselves."
"Yes. But... Did they have to make ours a matching set?"

They're trying to tell you something, Yuuko. Liiiisten to them.

The library story breaks my heart ;___; As awesome as it is to see CCS canon tossed in, it's depressing to see Clow talking about that.

Yuuko laughs, a little bit like she's crazy. We love it when Yuuko laughs like this! It always means she's thinking up something really fun!

Watanuki doesn't, though.

"Well thank you, Mister Snake. Here. Take this alcohol in return for your favor. You can share it with all of your friends in the forest."

...You're getting animals drunk?!

"Hmm, well. I'm sure Kerberos will say yes [to snowball fighting], but I doubt that Yue will want to leave his spot by the fireplace."

LOL!

"I think I'd warm up much faster with some nice hot wine. Thank you."
"Of course. I've got some waiting."
Clow smiles as he takes Yuuko's coat.

You two get along really well!
Yuuko says, "What? How do you figure?" and tilts her head. Clow just laughs.
Huh? Huh?
But they do! They get along so well!

Shippiest. Scene. EVER.

The fact Clow made Mokona-shaped sweets so often is worrisome. Because Watanuki also does -well, at least once, for Himawari. For me, that's a stronger argument for the Watanuki Is Related To Clow school of thought than "Oh, a boy with glasses like Clow woke us up!" Trufax.

"Say. The two of them sort of look like sumo wrestlers, all dressed up like that, don't they?"
"Ahaha!"
"Well, you know, they say sumos have power in their stomp. What do you think? Should we make them loincloths next year?"
"Ahahaha!"

Joking around! With no sarcasm!

Yeah, I also wonder which one the antique shop is. Is it the one with the suspiciously bat-themed old man? Or maybe it's the shop the mirror was stolen from on the Monkey's Paw arc?

Also, the eagle origins! :D Ever since I saw the eagle from the Valentine's Day arc on the book, I wanted to know the deal with it. Hahaha, it was paid with mochi XD And then they became friends. I hope Yuuko gave it something for fighting karasu tengu that day, because they were bitches.

Now, I was going to bring arguments about how it's chronologically possible for Clow to be alive on a White Day, but then I discovered that in the 60's it was called Marshmallow Day and wasn't as generic. So... nevermind. I'm not touching this one.

Someone mentioned all those meanings of peach trees and blossoms on my flist already, so yeah. That would be explaining Touya's name like WHOA.

I wonder if their last dream is a premonition they got by themselves, or something Clow installed on the hardware.

(...I should stop thinking about Clow as a software engineer any time soon. I even have mental fanon of him researching for random-world-generating functions for Soel. That's... I don't even know what to say.)

"Let's say good night to them, then. Until then."

That's depressing because Clow isn't only saying good night DDDDDDD:

Yeah, totally :/ Despite my "ee look they compared him to Clow" comment, I do think he's similar to him because of other stuff rather than just 'black hair and glasses'. His personality, the way he treats spirits, the way he's so kind, how he's awesome at house chores? All those remind me of Clow (and Eriol & Fujitaka) more :3

D'you want the HOLiC scans?

Got them already ^^

Well, I have the pet theory that Kyle is related to the Reeds for the lulz XD And mind you, it was before the "OMG what if Watanuki is Kyle!!1!" explosion. And there is no argument except for his looks (and how he posed in Chinese clothes recently with Xing Huo). But with Watanuki, there's this strong Kinomoto vibe, and not only with Fujitaka factors. Sometimes he has some Sakura or Touya in him.

Which makes me think why on Earth Yuuko said she never wanted to see him again.
Bad scanlations? I can't find her saying anything like that in the Norma edition. She calls him "indeseable" and makes a lot of comments about how annoying he was, but if the "I don't want to see him ever again" is still there, I can't find it.

But the book did make me think about the issues - maybe it's not that Something happened in the end, but just general annoyance and love/hate. We know that Clow and Yuuko have very different attitudes about people/fate/etc, I bet that's enough to get on her nerves.

Because Watanuki also does -well, at least once, for Himawari.
I forgot about that! :O *adds it to her list* (Mind you, I didn't think the glasses think was proof or anything. It just set my Clow Derivates Senses tingling... like pretty much everything does. ^_^U)

I claim that the White Day thing is just A Seer Thing and I'm sticking by that. Because I'm 99% sure that the real reason why it's in there is so CLAMP could as many holidays as possible, so I'm not going to bother coming up with a proper theory.

True that, but I've seen more than one scanlation saying that shit. I think it's "let's ask my Japanese-speaking friends what this page says to them! and what their local publisher translated that as!" time... again x_x I hate my Ravenclawish anal retentiveness about wording.

Mind you, I didn't think the glasses think was proof or anything. It just set my Clow Derivates Senses tingling... like pretty much everything does. ^_^U

It's okay. I mean, I also have those senses and I've been worse. Like putting Kyle in the charts just because XP

I think it might be wiser to stick with the Seer Thing. CLAMP sometimes are worse than Rowling with timelines.

...You're getting animals drunk?!

I LOVE YOU THIS IS A SUMMARY OF THE ENTIRE BOOK. ♥♥♥♥♥

I was very enamored by the Clow/Yuuko interactions, and I'd bet the only reason she's so pissed at him at the start of Holic is because he decided to off himself, and turn into Fujitaka and Eriol. And because that's the sort of relationship they have.

I was going to bring arguments about how it's chronologically possible for Clow to be alive on a White Day, but then I discovered that in the 60's it was called Marshmallow Day and wasn't as generic.
Yeah, I thought White Day was from the 80's, and how long did Kero say he'd been sleeping? 30 years?

What gets me is that Clow must live within walking distance of Yuuko, so Watanuki lives (or dreams, I guess) within walking distance of Tomoeda? But then Yuuko's been that close to Kero and Fujitaka and Yuki and everyone throughout all of Holic? No. Right? What?

With Holic, I feel almost certain that Watanuki'll turn out just fine. Yuuko not so much, but Watanuki, definitely.

More like they're getting anyone drunk XP Except Yue, who's special.

Being angry at him for dying was the usual theory back in the days, but I think Yuuko is wise enough to understand and respect Clow's decision, or so I concluded with her serenity in the book's serious scenes. If she decided to be petty about it, it must've been years after he moved on, and because she was feeling lonely without her friend around or frustration for dealing so much with the fucking descendants while he's... reincarnated and shit. Or that's how I feel.

I think that's anime-only canon, because in my volume Kero never mentions any amount of years.

I've been wondering about that. HOLiC, even if we never see the Tokyo Tower and all that shit, happens in Tokyo. CCS doesn't, but Tomoeda is close enough to Tokyo to have the Tower for a battlefield. So, maybe the shop (and school, and Doumeki's temple) are on the surroundings or just near the city exit that leads to Tomoeda.

...Or you know, the shop itself moves in every so years like in horror films.

...Or Clow and Yuuko have insane athletic abilities and can walk a lot without getting tired. Or they use magic for that.

[identity profile] jlarinda.livejournal.com 2007-09-05 09:04 am (UTC)(link)

Neither does mine, and neither do the raws :D; I do remember the anime saying '30 years', though.. I wonder why they added that?

Because children who watch anime are too stupid to consider cute Kero-chan, who flails over pudding and plays videogames, older than them at least without being told? No clue. Madhouse had stranger add/removal choices after all.

[identity profile] iamsocool12345.livejournal.com 2007-09-05 01:51 pm (UTC)(link)
*pets special Yue*

I think I'm more or less on the same page with you. And they obviously have a snarky relationship, so I can't really imagine her saying to Watanuki, "Clow made this, he was just swell! ♥"

Oh, I haven't read the manga in ages, and bought a CCS PS game while I was in Japan, and when Kero said "30 years" there, it sounded right to me. But that must've been because of the anime. So if that's not manga-canon, maybe Clow did go missing in the '80s? Soel and Larg obviously take place pretty close to now.

..Or Clow and Yuuko have insane athletic abilities and can walk a lot without getting tired. Or they use magic for that.
That's what I was thinking, but then the Mokonas manage to get there when they're out with the umbrella. It's just weird to think she'd be that close to Eriol without speaking to him, though I guess she might've for all we know.

Maybe the shop DOES move. :/
ext_387179: A sea turtle swimming (Teddie / That was amazing!)

[identity profile] rainmage.livejournal.com 2007-09-05 02:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Special Yue is special.

Yeah, it was definitely snarky, although it's just that Yuuko isn't the cutesy type to go all "awww" over friends or love interests, unless she's in teasing mode. She might be like that with her creations, but with the humans she cares about she behaves in particular patterns. She also teases and snarks at Watanuki -and in lesser extent, to the Tsubasa gang in early arcs-, although in a mother hen sort of way. The great thing about Clow is that he's totally cool about it, and laughs with her (and at her).

/tl;dr thoughts on Yuuko

But still, in canon she feels less snarky than in my fanon.

I think all videogames were based on anime. It's usually like that with most fandoms. I have yet to see a game based in a manga, or in a manga canon. I never take videogames as canon because who knows who works on the script.

But perhaps the Mokonas don't get easily tired because they're magical. Besides, they can bounce. I try not to think what was Yuuko doing during the CCS canon because I'm 90% sure CLAMP never thought about it, and there's gotta be a plothole the size of a karasu tengu somewhere D:

LOL I love your summary as well. It really says a lot of things I never bother considering. I've given up already trying to understand those women. It's too depressing if it doesn't come out the way I want.

By the by, you can go by my journal to see the full translation already. Yeap, it's half past three in the morning and I'm already done. Call me crazy, I just HAD TO. XD

Also, I updated my profile so you can see my email adress if you want me to send you a full copy of my translation in and archive.

Gosh! I can't stop laughing at your views! I should go more often into the deranged theories area of my brain, the one I abandoned due to overexposure to CLAMP.

Um, sorry but I don't check translations of translations unless I have no choice. I'm just archiving Jamie's because it's the original. I'd never end if I were to link every translation in every language, because if I were to do Spanish I'd also have to do in French, German, and so on to be fair.

I'm glad you enjoyed this post, though ^^ I don't think it was that funny or thoughtful, more like long and tedious.

Oh, sorry. I didn't know. Sorry to bother.

I needed something else if you can tell me the order of the images in the book to make it complete. Also, I want to make the acknowledgements more complete, so tell me how you want to appear. And I will publish your page as well since there will be the original.

Is that OK with you?

No, I'm the one who needs to apologize. I didn't want to annoy you. I'm sorry. I hope you're not angry. I won't ask again.
