I started watching Gurren Lagann. Then I stopped at episode 3 when I realized my favorite character was... yes, the one who dies early. NOT ON, MAN. Because I obviously know what happens, and I don't want to see it. Bleagh. I pass, not because of what happens itself, but because in my (perhaps bad) experience with that kind of event and that kind of dynamics with the main character sup HikaGo I never, ever, ever can get into the rest. And that's pretty much all the anime.

Man, I know I sound like a prat. But see, that's the only character I like so far. So unless I can be sure a character that I can dig will pop out...? I'm doubting I can enjoy it as much as you rest do. No, I also doubt I can like post-timeskip!Simon, or how the plot advances afterwards.

Sorry for sounding so bitter D: I really tried. I will watch the rest just to see how it turns out anyway, but ugh.

1. When did you first fall in love with ship number 1? (Clow/Yuuko)

It started as a crack pairing when reading volume one from her faces while talking to him, in this "LOL maybe she was his ex XD" kind of way. Then volume two showed they worked together and had babies and it kind of made lots of sense. But the real turning point was the Soel and Larg stories: it all went downhill because the crack was as canon as it can get! :D

2. When did you fall in love with ship number 5? (Lina/Gourry)

Episode 1, baby. Even if he was all "awww a little girl, let me prote-- holy crap, you just destroyed the whole town O_o". But the thing is, even if he knows Lina doesn't really need a bodyguard, and that she is batshit crazy wanted to snatch his sword? He sticked around.

3.What is your favorite moment of ship number 3? (Ling/Lan)

When they faced Bradley. But I also liked when they were against Gluttony and Envy, and the time he made her thank Al for her new mask because it was cute.

4. What will the ship be if you take the boy from ship 2 and the girl from ship 1 and mesh them? If one or both of the ships are slash, then pick and choose.

Yuuko/Touya?! That-- that's wrong. In any dimension, that's wrong. I could only like Yuuko/Yukito if it's Clow!Yukito. Actually, that would be kind of nifty~ They already know each other, and both are moon-based magic.

5. Vice versa.

DO NOT WANT! THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH D: FACES TO EXPRESS HOW DO NOT WANT THAT IS. IN ANY DIMENSION. I suppose Clow/Yukito is the least worse, but still, no thanks.

6. What's your favorite moment for ship 4? (Howl/Sophie)

Are you kidding me? The whole book is gold. The green slime wars, the weed killer wars, the suit wars, the bantering... All. Gold. And there's also the honest wind part, which I weirdly find more romantic than the ending. There's also the scene in Castle in the Air when they reunite: it made me so fucking happy, and it was pretty much dysfunctional if you think about it.

7. How long was there between the time you got into the fandom and the time you started shipping ship number 3? (Ling/Lan)

Um. YEARS. Because the characters didn't exist yet and shit.

8. When did you start shipping ship number 4? (Howl/Sophie)

Um, I think it's pretty obvious they were gonna be canon, but the green slime scene at the movie probably did it for me. (Although I think that, if book!Sophie had to deal with nekkid Howl like anime!Sophie, she'd be less flustered and more CONFOUND IT HOW SHAMELESS IS THAT HAIR ON HIS BUTT?!)

9. Take three random people from three of the ships and create an OT3?

Let's see... Yuuko/Lina/Sophie would destroy entire worlds XDDD Shit, how scary. And I'm not sure Lina could stand the sight of Yuuko's boobs without blowing shit up. Let's try again with less doom.

Lina/Gourry/Yukito, because it'd only bring doom to restaurant owners. Yue wouldn't like it much, but his powers could be cool to have in an Epic Battle Against Evil, and he could be BFF with Zelgadis or something.

And I'm cheating and including someone who's not in the list, but Clow!Touya/Ling/Vivi (from One Piece) would be extremely made of awesome.

It's impossible not to adore Simon after episode 11 (and this is before timeskip). I now love him more than the character you are talking about and I thought that character was my favorite too.

I think it is ashame to stop watching the show because of that one death because the show gets way better after that episode. He was a cool character, he was pretty much everyone's favorite at first but his death was important to the story it propelled it and the other characters forward. Everyone loves that character so much because all the spotlight was on him, when the spotlight is on the other characters you realize how wonderful they also are.

I think you read the post before I edited it XD I'll still watch it, but cautiously.

I know it was important to the plot. So was, say, that death on Death Note or Sai moving on on Hikaru no Go, and after those their mangas lost their appeal to me because I couldn't care less if the main characters won or lost. Perhaps Obata's screenwriters jaded me. So far Simon is nothing notable to me, so it's normal I'm afraid it could happen again. And the Wiki profile of post-timeskip Simon just gave me bad vibes for some reason -maybe it was because I kept seeing the dead guy in everything.

But you know, you're probably right. It's me being too callous over bad experiences with mid-series deaths. I might grow to like someone else (not necessarily Simon, though: I rarely adore main characters).

Sorry if I was a little like you MUST WATCH IT lol. I didn't mean to come off strong. I think I would rather people say they just dislike the show then they are going to stop watching it because of that death. I didn't really love the series until after episode 8 and I felt they handled the death very well.

Sai moving on in Hikaru no Go I think was important like this one. However the death in DN I think was only for shock value and didn't propel the plot forward in anyway. In fact the story got worse after that.

In GL my favorite characters are Simon and Viral but it's the type of show like One Piece where I enjoy the whole crew.
