John Barrowman freezes my web browser

Here's a meme since I have nothing productive to say.

Check my fandoms, my favorite characters, the pairings I like the most, my kinks, my fictional crushes, anything. Now, in a friendly and possibly teasing way, point out the obvious and not so obvious trends or fetishes you see in my tastes. Maybe I'm nuts for all vampire stories, or have a thing for men who smoke, or I'm fond for the tsundere archetype, or I'm into rival slash. Let's point out all of those you've noticed I tend to squee about during our friendship.

Um, I have a list of favorite fandoms in my profile, so get ideas from there. Ready, set, go?

It's hard because I think you like a lot of different type of things which is good because it makes your taste diverse. Although I do think you favor things with a unique and artistic style such as CLAMP, Okami, Mononoke. :)

(CLAMP aren't that unique, though XD Although they use several art styles for each manga they do so... okay, maybe in the art department)

Actually, you may have a point although looking unique and artsy doesn't mean I'll check it out. The plot or premise must intrigue me as well. If it's a videogame, it has to be a genre I can play. Funny enough, the videogame I'm playing right now, Odin Sphere, intrigued me because it's got a retro-looking 2D cartoonish look to it opposed to most fantasy RPG-ish games. And even before Okami I enjoyed Katamary games, which are... oddballs in all sense.

I'd even add Mushishi to that list because the animation was so shiny and I had never watched something similar at the time. It was refreshing. So was Kino no Tabi, although it was more unique in plot than art.

Yeah even if I like the art style and hate the story I wouldn't continue with it. And sometimes if I don't like a style but love a story that can end up making me start enjoying the style.

I can't think of punctual examples right now, but I know that's happened to me at least once ^_^ Oh, wait, I think The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi might be one: the moe style in the girls and the weeaboo hype turned me off at first.

One of the trend I've noticed, it's because we both got it, it's the Howl-Ling-Kujaku-Muron character type. Let's call him the Gentle Trickster type? (no, I'm not sure they all go together, but they do have a similar personnality).

Oh, and you may have something for boys with glasses. Maybe. But I think I'm reaching there.

[identity profile] rainmage.livejournal.com 2008-04-27 01:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Definitely :D Although for me Howl isn't that much of a trickster and more of a slithering chicken-jerk XD Maybe I don't see him in that group that much -although I see Muron and him may share the flirty trait-, probably because in my mind Howl fits much better this other different type of character I like. But I guess he can be a tricky bastard as well, but not in the same "I see what u did thar" way Kujaku and the others go about.

I definitely think glasses are sexy, but the wrong personality can turn me off the gorgeous guy. Kyouya might be pretty, for instance, but he's so weird and profit-oriented I'm more creeped out than aroused.

Awww, I love Kyouya. Well, keep Watanuki, I'll keep Kyouya, all will be best in the best of world :)

Oh, I know you do :D I should put it in your post, actually. But I don't know, there's something in Kyouya that always rubbed me the wrong way and I can't tell what it is exactly. And yet, he has moments I find really cool (no pun intended) or even cute. No idea. And yet, I don't think it's an exception because in the Ace Attorney series there's this man with glasses who is incredibly hot, but turned out to be such a bastard I ended up fangirling a character who was extremely different. I think you'd like that guy, actually, if you were into videogames.

[identity profile] etrangere.livejournal.com 2008-04-27 01:56 pm (UTC)(link)
But I don't see Kyouya as a bastard - I mean, of course, I do like Magnifescent Bastards type sometimes, although not really in being in love with them - but Kyouya, I classify him with Percy or Tatsumi, or Wesley, or Gaeta (you don't know them, but...). Kyouya can be a bit mean, sometimes, but not that much. What I find sexy about him is that he's very, very competent. And being very anal and organized and detail orientated. And I find him cute when he loses it. And he hides his most generous side. And the size of the chip on his shoulder :)

I keep hearing good things about Ace Attorney. The other day I even had a dream about it, where Sokka was saying "Objection!", at least I think it was Sokka, I don't remember which is sad because it was hilarious.

Uh, I guess I expressed myself wrong, because I was saying the bastard was the dude from Apollo Justice, not Kyouya. Just that the thing I was turned off in THAT character was the bastardness. What turns me off Kyouya I can't even recognize. I really don't find Kyouya a bastard, more of an opportunist.

But really, the only thing Kyouya and the example I was giving of personality-over-megane-fetish share is, besides the glasses, is some facial expressions (http://www.court-records.net/arts/gs4guidebook/04-kirihito02.jpg). They're not really that similar in personality.

If you want to play Phoenix Wright and Apollo Justice games, I can pass you an emulator to play them over the computer. They're mostly interactive murder mysteries, really, it's all character and plot-oriented.

OOH, my fault for misunderstanding you :)

My, that is one pretty megane character :) though blond and dressed weirdly!

I might have to take you up on your words about that game :)

Almost everyone dresses up weirdly in those games, actually XD Or has weird hairdos. Or both. It's part of the quirkiness of the series.

If you decide to play them and have enough patience to try them on your computer, let me know and I'll pass you files and a tutorial :D

[identity profile] laurus-nobilis.livejournal.com 2008-04-27 02:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I think you have pretty varied tastes, actually. A while ago I would have mentioned "dark-haired guys with glasses" but then you grew out of HP and added a lot of blond sparkly people to your favourite characters. XD

Joking aside... One thing I notice (probably because I'm similar) is that you tend to prefer the good guys, or the ambiguous leaning to good. You might find characters from the Dark Side interesting and appreciate them, but I don't think I've ever seen you fangirl a villain.

Something else is that your OTPs tend to be people who love each other as they are even if they get annoyed at each others' flaws, as opposed to "my loved one is ABSOLUTELY PERFECT!"

[identity profile] rainmage.livejournal.com 2008-04-27 03:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Funny thing is, I've always liked dorky blonds (I even liked Fye better than Kurogane at first, WTF). It just that recently I've stumbled into more new glimmering blonds I like than new dark megane, so it just seems I changed the chip XP But like I told [livejournal.com profile] etrangere, it depends on the personality.

Actually, you're right. As cool as some villains are, I never get into them unless they have truly nobles motives I can be fond of (note: noble motives according to me, not to CLAMP!). The few times I've liked antagonists they end up joining the good guys eventually (like Zuko) or they're not the worse baddie of the story.

For some of my OTPs that's true ^^ Actually, I can't stand when they mush up my bickering pairings in fanworks.

I don't care what people say, I can't justify villains like Taishakuten for fuck. Jesus in a pogo stick, what the hell.

I cut more slack with Seishirou because his upbringing was so strange, he probably thought his... courting of Subaru was normal. And the appeal of S/S is precisely the fucked-up. But I don't know, Taishaku... he's too much for me.
