Since [livejournal.com profile] kirarakim was nagging about it, I gave Baccano! another chance. Just finished marathoning it in 3 days, and I'm only missing the DVD-only episodes now.

So, one of the main turn-offs I had when I first watched episode one, months ago, was that it's too confusing. Is it still confusing? ...Yes. Yeah, sorry, I did get the plot in the end but I still had troubles following the events or even remembering what things happened during what year. And mind you, I still do (I'll need a rewatch or two to get it completely clear here). The other complain was the large cast meaning way too many character names to remember. Even now, for some characters, I have to make an effort to recall their first names. This is an issue I also have with epically long shounen so it might be my own fault.

But you know what? It was FUN. So much fun. It's got action (well duh, mafia and all), it's got plot (too much plot for 13 episodes, but still), it's got cool people, it's got suspense. I've never been a fan of mafia flicks, but this one was really near and the fact it also has a fantasy setting (LOL ALCHEMY LOL IMMORTALS) made it the more interesting to me -I like it when fandoms with apparently realistic plots throw cracky or supernatural stuff at you. You just can't get bored in the entirety of an episode. And it's all so well animated, too.

Also, I LOL'd hard at the names, yeah. The names of words we use in Spanish. Martillo? Jacuzzi? (in Venezuela, jacuzzi = any hot tub period) Vino? (although to be fair, this time it was supposed to come from wine). There was this Gandor guy called Berga, which sounds a lot like "verga" (slang for cock). Fun times, fun times.

Speaking of silly names. My favorite character was Jacuzzi and I can't explain why he rocks so much without spoiling. But Isaac/Miria are pretty close, and let me tell you: I ship those two SO HARD you wouldn't believe it ♥ Just... so NUTS and so CUTE and DUMB and they're made for each other in their insanity. And remember that I said some days ago that I'm into the traveling shenanigans type? And they're so adorable they melt away every heart with the POWER OF BATSHIT :D The other pairing I'm really into is Jacuzzi/Nice ♥

One of the things that makes me a little sad, however, is how so many cool characters got their premises or personality revealed on the last minute. I'd probably like Firo and Ennis (separately and as a pairing) if they weren't explained in the very end. Same with Maiza, Czes, Chane, and Rachael.

Oh god I know I was really annoying so please forgive me. It's just I really did know a bunch of people who dropped after the first episode ended up picking it up again and really enjoyed it. It's not the best series of all time of course but it's such a fun series. And I guess it's true I don't remember every character but I remember most of them just because most of them leave a big impression on you because their personalities are so unique. And I have yet to find someone who disliked it. Well maybe some of the extreme violent scenes would turn off some people.

Jacuzzi and Miria/Isaac are my favorite too. I love almost all the characters but they just always put a smile on my face. ♥

The DVD specials focus a lot on Chane/Claire and Nice/Jacuzzi. Nice/Jacuzzi's scene will probably make you love Jacuzzi even more.

That's okay, really! I've been more annoying than your original comment so... XD

Ooh, I'll watch the specials tomorrow since they just finished downloading and it's too late at night. Right now I'm indifferent to Claire/Chane (as a pairing, because Claire is LOL), so let's see how they managed that.

Yes, Baccano! It really is a lot of fun to watch. The ridiculous names make it all the more enjoyable.

I CAN take ridiculous names even as srs bsns, after playing four Ace Attorney games /o/ It was just too amusing when they actually mean things in my native language.

Oh!
