I dreamt last night of Final Fantasy XII. Here's the kick, though: I've never played that game. At all. So it's quite random. I wonder if my subconscious is trying to tell me something. On one hand, I have three RPG-ish games to finish. On the other, it's now pretty cheap. On one foot, I never seem to get hooked to FF games because 100 random encounters and three bosses later? I still give a shit about the characters and I frequently feel despair towards the game system of choice (grumblemateria grumblespheregrid). On the other, the political plot intrigues me.

What do you say? Is the gameplay something I'd find exasperating or hard? Will the characters bore me? Will I get tired of leveling up? Is it too Finalfantasish for me?

WTF GERMAN? XD; And I'm convinced the blurb is just taking my birthdate, realizing I'm a Gemini, and copy-pasting a couple of traits that perhaps are adequate to the numerology result.

With FFXII, I like the characters quite a bit. I like being able to switch up the party and not be stuck with Vaan, who annoys me.
However, if you tend to be annoyed with fighting systems, I have to tell you the one in XII can be extremely aggravating. To me, it's like they took everything shitty about "turn based" and combined it with everything crappy about the "run up and slash away" style. So you can run up to and all around the enemy, but you still have to wait for a timer to fill up before your character actually does anything. In the meantime, the enemy is going to town on your guy. :/

I only really know about 7, 10 and 3. 7 was awesome and great (though I didn't play it, I watched and and was a "backseat driver" to my dad), 10 was dreadful, boring and pointless, 3 is great, but I'm stuck in that at the last dungeon, can't find the boss, and it's gotten mad hard all of a sudden! I really did like 3 though, up until now. It's a lot more simple than the later ones, of course. I mean graphics and content-wise, not difficulty-wise.

With FF XII, I quite like the characters. Even Vaan.
And I do like the gameplay but I think you probably won't.

FWIW, FFXII has my favorite battle system of the final fantasies (other than Tactics). There are no random encounters--you can see all the enemies on the screen and, if you like, avoid battling them altogether in a lot of places. The gambit system takes a lot of the tedium of constantly inputting commands in battle, and though some people think that takes a lot of the actual gameplay out of the game, I enjoyed taking pride in setting up an ideal set of gambits that required little input from me otherwise.

The plot, gamescript, and acting are phenomenal.

FFXII wasn't bad, but the ending felt really.. abrupt. I felt like the story had a lot more potential than what it ended up like. For the gameplay, the battle system is different from other FFs.. if you set up the right gambits, you won't have to lift a finger for battles. Your characters will do everything automatically, so you probably won't like that too much if you like button mashing.

I've seen dragons growing up faster.

I guess it's because having a larger flist => they get more looks when other people refresh their flist. That's the only explanation I got.
