I keep forgetting Thorfinn is the main chara
Let's recap:
- The Askeladd/Thorfinn duel is over in half a chapter
- Thorfinn gets his ass kicked for being a hot-headed piece of shit
- Canute gets his masculinity questioned
- IN OTHER NEWS: BEARS SHIT IN THE WOODS, AND THE POPE IS CATHOLIC
Just kidding XD But that was it for constants. At least I was surprised to see Askeladd, the coolest guy ever, to be this angry. I mean, it's most likely the duel with Bjorn was what upset him, but I'm not sure if it was because he hated him, or deep down liked him but won't admit it, or was annoyed because Bjorn liked him, or all at the same time. It's puzzling, really. And he keeps repeating he hates Vikings, to boot.
Thorkell and Canute doing the combat commentary amused me somehow.
Soooo Askeladd killed his own father. Well, looking back it's not surprising that was the person he hated the most, with what happened to his mother. The flashbacks next months will be interesting. Yay backstory!
Speaking of weird behaviors, is it me or Canute seemed to be rooting for Thorfinn a little bit in the middle of his indifference/boredom? He was all "but he kicked your ass" at Thorkell, sighed when he opened his eyes, and tried to calm him down later all "chillax, ask for a rematch when you're healed". Considering he's now a zen-yet-pissed-off son of a bitch, that might be the most... friendly we've seen of new!improved!Canute. Maybe he's not gone completely bastard, or just has some fondness for Thorfinn's shounen retardness. Again, hell if I knew.Holding his head looked pretty gay, though.
Either way, it was a pretty good chapter.
