taotrooper: It's a polar bear dancing the hula; your argument is invalid (Tear / must poke)

About that dashing redhead... no, not Zelos

Adopt one today! Adopt one today!

This is the proof DragCave hates me. I just go there to check on my hatchling before turning off the computer, and I get a winter egg. When I consciously try to hunt shit, I never do.

Oh, and I'm the same age as the new Doctor. I don't know whether to feel young or old when people in that fandom go "OMG ONLY 26?!"

So this post isn't moot, how about a rant I've been forgetting to do? It's about the Tales of the Abyss ending, meaning 99% of my flist can skip it since I know no one in this fandom *woe*

Supposedly the person at the ending is the one you want him to be, said TPTB? Okay, then. I say it has to be Luke, or at least he will be in my headcanon heart.

1. The tears and dialog from Tear mean nothing to me to fuel the theory. Because if Asch randomly returns from the dead, she'd probably start crying anyway because of sudden!Lukeface. But considering the whole party seems so impressed/happy, I honestly doubt this would be Asch. IMHO.

2. There's an amazing lack of tsundere, so even if the badassery and ugly hair fits, the whole image and persona Redhead gives doesn't suit Asch. Granted, doesn't suit Luke either with the odd as fuck dialog, but the guy just looks too content to be alive to be Asch.

3. To be fair, I don't believe this is the same Luke. I subscribe to the idea this is the combined body of them both. You know, the big bang thing. It's so hinted by canon I can't dismiss it, even if I don't think it happened like with that cheagle.

4. When it comes to the soul inside this merged monstrosity, there are three possibilities.
a) Luke's soul
b) Asch's soul
c) Both souls sharing body or a mix of both
Honestly, I thought about (c) at the beginning, but as the game progressed I loathed the idea because... can you imagine the Emo In Stereo going on in such a head? JESUS, DO NOT WANT. I obviously find (a) more plausible, because of the previous points. Besides, Luke's soul was right there when the merge occurred, while who knows about Asch's considering he died. Could've been nearby haunting Luke or his corpse or whatever, granted. Yet I favor (a) with arguments.

5. Let's think about the cheagle's big bang. I imagine this could've happened like this: the replica's fonons separated, the replica died, the fonons return to the original. My theory is that this big bang could've been backwards since the original was already dead, so the body disintegrating should be the lifeless one (Asch). It would be silly for the living body to separate and fuse with a corpse. If this is plausible (I'm not saying "right" because canon says every theory is "right"), I'm saying the big bang keeps the soul of the person that remained alive. Therefore, this is Luke.

6. And a part of (1) that makes me believe it's Luke way more than the shipping thing with Tear: Jade's reaction. Wait, I'm not saying it because I love Jade: there's a freaking long close-up, and even a better look than Tear's face at that. He looks moved and relieved. I mean, this dude's only truly fond of like three people ever, so this has to be Luke and not Asch. And he wouldn't be so glad if the big bang had happened normally: he always thought the possibility would be cruel. So, Jade's pleased face tells me it was backwards and he was happy to be wrong.

7. The subjective galore one: THAT WOULD BE SO MEAN IF IT WASN'T. After all the shit about wanting to live, about wanting to be himself, about finding his own worth by himself, and not caring about what other (more psychotic) people think... let's kill him and resurrect the original instead! Or let's make a milkshake with them both! :D LOL NO. I'm all for cruel endings (goddammit, CLAMP), but this defies the main character's story way too much to feel comfortable about.

Good AUs where this dude is Asch would be awesome to read, if they exist (does something that's not for porn's sake exist in this fandom? no clue). But I want to think it's Luke.

WHAT I DON'T GET IS THE TIME THING. If this truly happens two years later, WHERE THE FUCK HAS REDHEAD BEEN DURING ALL THAT TIME? The hell any of those two would be running around wherever while the whole world is mourning them and they know they have a promise to keep (well, perhaps Asch would, but GEEZ). Also, Anise hasn't grown up so two years is ridiculous. Then again, where would he get the outfit if this had happened immediately after Eldrant fell? This whole "coming of age ceremony" plothole bothers me waaaay more than the identity of Dashing Redhead. Who cars if it's Luke or Asch or an Emo in Stereo DBZ fusion? I want an amount of time so I can theorize!

xD; Well, I think he's too young because it's the youngest the Doctor's ever been and ever since Eccleston he's been getting younger and younger. I wanted an older actor because I tend to dig them much more nowadays (I must be the one getting old!). But anyway, poor guy, he doesn't deserve all the stick he's getting already. He won't be Ten and that's all I need personally.

Skipping your Tales of the Abyss spoilers, since I was considering it. Do you think I'd enjoy it with no knowledge at all of the game? The only Tales of I've played is Phantasia and I loved it (watched the OVAs and all). I really like the art too (lol shallow).

I honestly couldn't care less. It's just the LOL TWENTY-SIX popping everywhere out of context. (Um, I was under the impression that except for two or three incarnations, it's always been getting younger and yonger since old Who, to the point it's fanon trufax to some -but that the skip from Tennant to Smith WAS a bit too much.) But whatever.

Well, I think you can understand the anime because the adaptation is good, but I don't think the plot would be your thing. Modern Tales are usually too RPG-cliché and twistalicious, although you grow to the characters. It's just harder to get attached to them in anime only: all the quirks and dorkiness you see in sidequests and random dialogs usually can't be translated since the plot matters most. It's easier to love them in-game.

(Incidentally, I tried Phantasia in emulator but got too hard for me and I was stuck too soon, which is a pity since the pixels are so cute. And I was digging Klarth, the summoner guy. Apparently I can only play Symphonia in its button-mashing glory.)

For someone who doesn't really care about the fantasy genre, I actually do like RPG-ish stuff. I watched .hack//SIGN back in the day and some others. Maybe I just think the art is too pretty not to watch! /lame

(I first tried Phantasia in my PC too, but the ROM had a bug or something and the game got freezed at some point in the story :/ I had spent too much time already and didn't want to re-play, so I dropped it. Then I bought the remake for the Gameboy Advance and finished it. Klarth is awesome! My favourite was Chester tho, the archer guy~)

If that's the case, I suppose you could give it a try for the pretty, although I still warn you about the twistaliciousness of Abyss. And that the characters are more likable/complex in the game, but that's kind of a given in adaptations. Just don't expect a lot from it and you'll be fine. (I did get into the fandom in part because of the game's pretty art, so I'd be a hypocrite if I said something against it D: )

Ugh, I had just started when I got stuck, just had Arche join my party a little while back (did went through the "fuck like a tiger" classic line, however). I hadn't warmed up to Chester yet since he was still in the future and shit. Or to anyone else, for that matter: I was digging Klarth because he was funny and the older one, or something.

I am the same age as the Doctor as well and I feel he is too young. Nothing against his acting abilities but I kind of wanted the Doctor to be older than me. It makes me feel old and I don't want to feel that way from Doctor Who. But I am willing to give this guy a chance.

Dude, couldn't care less, it's not my fandom and I got bored of the series pretty soon. It's just the whole random "TWENTY-SIX!" on LJ that made me go "huh" just out of context. I'm just reading the wank.

[identity profile] kirarakim.livejournal.com 2009-01-04 07:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Well I don't think anyone was saying 26 is too young or too old in general just it seems too young for the character.

[identity profile] rainmage.livejournal.com 2009-01-04 07:36 pm (UTC)(link)
No, no, I didn't mean that. I mean, BEFORE I got to read the news and the wank, there was this series of TWENTY SIX WHAT around and I didn't know what's up with that. And now I see a lot of "I'm barely younger than that" or "I'm older than that" from fans everywhere. That's what I mean.

I really don't care enough to talk about this. This guy could be 26 or 16 or 60, for all I care. Whoverse ended up boring me.
