So Chrono Trigger DS was out over here yesterday (or it should be, because game.es has it out of stock already O_o; and knowing the local Game store, it'll take it 100000 years to arrive to this city). I go and check around Spanish boards out of curiosity, and guess what. THERE'S WANK.

FOR THE SAME USUAL (AND RETARDED) REASONS. GODDAMMIT.

Basically, the crybabies are giving the game a 0 and refuse to buy it because it's in English. Jesus Christ in a rollercoaster, people. It's Okami all over again. LISTEN, YOU BUNCH OF ILLITERATE, PATHETIC WHINERS. The companies aren't there to cater to your demands, morons. I just don't understand this country's obsession with having everything foreign translated to their language. I doubt this is an European trait because imagine, say, Scandinavian countries. You don't see them whining because their games don't come in Finnish or Swedish. But here, most people are so stupid/lazy to learn languages that aren't from the peninsula, they must have everything translated and handed out in a silver plate. How can they depend this much in such failtastic translations!

You know, I'm beginning to think that the real reason companies ignore the continent this hard is because of countries like ours: If they take too long to translate to six languages, people get bored of waiting and don't buy it when it's finally out. If they release it as it is and not long after the North American version, people wank about it and don't buy it. They probably shake their heads at the low sales and think "why bother with these idiots?" Meanwhile, United Kingdom and all of us who speak English are fucked big time. I wouldn't mind the morons whining about good games being untranslated (probably even laugh as much as my Sudaca-esque culture shock lets me) if it wasn't for the fact they make Europeans look stupid, and my theory that they're the cancer that kills videogame releases.

Are we Latins the only ones who find English-only games just fine since we can practice our English while having fun? Are my brothers and I the only three people in this city who actually say "fuck yes!" when a game doesn't come with shitty Spanish as the only available option? And moreover, do you know how horrible it is to check a walkthrough in English for a translated RPG?

You know, I was planning to import CT from the UK because it's cheaper, but after seeing this I'm so buying it full-priced in Spain. I do agree with the wankers about one thing: if it's the same North American game, then why the fuck did it take Squeenix this long to release it here? I wanted this shit for Christmas, not Valentine's day.

I doubt this is an European trait Sadly, I can assure you that this is cat least true for Italy. And good luck if you liked an actor's voice because there's virtually no cinemas that use subtitles

Point, Italians are in personality kind of similar to Spaniards. I can easily see them wanking about this as well, especially since they get as much translated games in Italian as Spain (which is not always). The Portuguese as well, I imagine, since they're also so similar. Perhaps the French might since most PAL games tend to have Français as an option, so not having it must be a huge deal. But for non-Romance countries, I still hold my argument that they should wank less about languages -besides they DO learn English much better than people here.

Oh, and the movie thing is true here as well. Hell, even TV. Some cable and digital channels have the decency of putting an alternative audio track -almost never subtitles, tho-, but the default is always dub. This is also why I miss having a video rental nearby, since that means I can't watch recent movies at all -so not going to the movie theater to see dubs.

I think it's GOOD that people want a dub option to be available - not everyone can learn every language ever, afterall. And hey, most of these games're originally in Japanese. Would you learn it if that was the only option available? Just for videogames? (I know, I know, English's more universal so it's not the same, but you get what I mean)

That said, Spanish dubs for videogames are SO FUCKING BAD. I've loathed Spain!Spanish dubs all my life, because 99% of them just SUCK. The HP games for the PS2, which have voices? Kept making me cringe all the time - wtf can't they fucking learn to pronounce a name? Who the fuck is "Ermión"? If I can watch something in the original language (be it because I understand it, like with things in English, or because it's got subs), then I will always choose that. Having Spanish as the only available option for games or movies would make me cry.

No, what we whine about is that we have to wait for FUCKING FOREVER to play the -SAME GAME- as the one in NA. The only difference is that the European version has some additional languages we wont even use when we're playing the game!! This is one of the many reasons why I wish all consoles could be region free. orz
And please give us an original audio+subtitles option in videogames. PLEASE. It must be so much cheaper and easier to do that than to dub!

I can see your point, but I guess it makes me angry because like you said, it's different to get a game in English than in Japanese, but the English in videogames is not THAT hard. At least nothing that a dictionary can't solve anyway. I played tons of videogames as a kid, although my level was always higher than my classmates so I'm not sure if I'm an exception to the rule. But I know many people who learned that way, so IDK.

Having Spanish as the only available option for games or movies would make me cry.
THIS. And mind you, I'm glad we moved in during the DVD era, or movies/TV would be ruined forever.

Me estoy acostumbrando a la falta de subtítulos en general después de tantos años acá, personalmente, pero también hay que considerar que yo compro/alquilo DVDs para tener la opción de NO aguantarme el doblaje. Pffft.
