Twist du jour: now with more Clow
Okay, so I still don't understand what's with the plot nor I want to know, but um...
You know, this completely gives a different feeling to Clow's story and personality in CCS. For one, the wish to not being the most powerful wizards anymore isn't just because his visions were driving him nuts: his power just did some nasty shit on its own! But yeah, even if it's an OH SHIT ACCIDENT, it's much better than the "LOL I BET I CAN BRING HER BACK REGARDLESS" alternative.
And what's more, his death no longer has these tragic suicide vibes anymore. He wasn't leaving his kids and life behind because he was Sick Of Existing Like This: he just attempted to fill Buttchin's plotholes in this other world, knowing he'd never return alive since it was a part of the sacrifice/punishment.
Actually, even if the death flashback scene in CCS has now LOL PLOTHOLE written all over it, I can think of ways and theories for it to work out without contradicting what Sakura saw. First of all, one of the dimensional travel rules in Tsubaholic is that time is fucking relative. I believe that last spell Sakura was seeing, or at least the beginning, was him being transported to Clow country to be the king -whether it was on his own or paying Yuuko for it is irrelevant. Then Clow could've returned, years later, at the same exact moment of his "death" andmitosis divided in two. Not necessarily in that order.
Have some concrete theories!
1. Clow does all his stuff and have Yuuko to get him back home (this is important: Clow was fucking powerful but Yuuko's supposed to be the only one who can travel around more than once). His price (the rest of his magic and life) includes death, so as soon as he gets there he reincarnates as part of the deal.
2. Clow dies in Clow country and reincarnates as two kids. Then the half that would be Eriol (or both of them, this is just a hunch) arranges a deal with Yuuko to be both transported to the original's world, because while Clow did a lot to fix the mess, they still had to take care of the magic that was left behind and the half that would be Fujitaka had to conceive their Sakura. The price to be brought there? Fujitaka's memories. And what if Eriol's price is not necessary since he will bear with Clow's power and memories on his own for over thirty years? And this doesn't contradict the flashback: Sakura sees Clow shining, then she is blinded by the light, and when she opens her eyes Clow's gone and there are two silhouettes instead. This one is my favorite, personally.
3. The crackiest one and therefore the most TRC-compliant and plotholicious: Clow lost his magic as sacrifice a while ago, actually, so he couldn't reborn by himself. Eriol and Fujitaka are clones made by Yuuko in which she put Clow's soul and powers (which she has as part of the payment he made? let's go with that). Although the truth is, the second clone is the true king of Clow's and not Clow Reed's, yet he still counts as a reincarnation because his soul is half of Clow's. By having a king Fujitaka, their dimension is able to have a Sakura. But Yuuko wasn't able to separate the magic in two, or the price couldn't afford it, or there were hardware incompatibilities since it's not Clow's body and they needed lots more power. As for the memories, maybe they were taken as payment as in #2 or it's part of the magic issue.
4. Any mix of things from the three above.
...My God. I wasn't even supposed to care about this shit anymore! I wasn't even wanting to do theories to make sense of CLAMP stuff anymore! I've been typing these for an hour now. I suspect I still care deeply about Eriol and I needed to make sense of his existence again. ARGH.
