It's been a while since...

... I don't do stupid CLAMP theorizing. And since I found today my beloved XXXHOLiC volume 1 Spanish version (insert fangirl squee here), I'll have to rant. Foreshadow, family, birthday, crossovers; it's all about...

Watanuki Kimihiro... Wa-ta-nu-ki-Ki-mi-hi-ro. He doesn't live with his parents: they died in an accident in order to save him. He's supposed to live with people with different surname (relatives? adoptive family?). He's good at handicrafts and housework, specially cooking. He upsets easily and doesn't like to lose to anyone (i.e, Doumeki). He can see spirits and feel supernatural things. And he's a wizard Oops, sorry, wrong bispectacle boy.

Maybe it's particulary obvious, but I think CLAMP have some special plans for him. And I'm not saying this because he's supposely the main character. Before CLAMP divided their page in two, the album's pictures quantity was: in first place, Mokona Modoki; in second place, Watanuki; in third place, TRC-related; in fourth place, others. They're quite fond of XXXHOLiC, more than Tsubasa, I'd say. Those evil women have their minds set on the guy.

The birthday they gave him is quite relevant, at least. April 1st. And to complete it, his last name means "April first". Giving us the same message, twice. And that's their anniversary date of the group. More important: he shares birthday with one of the most powerful and beloved creatures in CLAMPverse: Sakura. Perhaps that day of the year has some secret meaning? (ignoring the whole "Fool's day" thing that doesn't exist in Japan). Being born in April 1st makes him an Aries. Clow's main reincarnation is also an Aries. Aries is a fire sign. And so is Leo, which is (of course) Harry Potter's sign (XD).

And there's the foreshadowing. Almost every chapter-opening illustration has to do with his immediate future. You know, emphasis in [Fate]. I want you to check this picture out. Yeah, harmless, cute Watanuki in western outfit. But at the background? A moon: symbolizing Yuuko's power. A fox and a snake. In volume 3 he faces a huge basilisk snake spirit and a couple of kitsune (fox demons). Be shocked by obvious yet hidden foreshadowing. Now you're gonna observe more carefully every teaser picture, aren't ya? I know *I* will.

The next thing to ramble about: blood and family. He inheritated his powers, since it's in his blood. From who? And Yuuko says he has a peculiar family. I'm assuming the people who lives with him (if they are blood-related, I mean) don't have that kind of power, if he feels such a freak (oh great, now I'm picturing them as the Dursleys ¬¬). Now I wonder, and maybe it's because the whole Kiri-reads-too-much-HP and the CCS experience, if any of his parents could see ghosts, or if it's something he got from a grandparent, some ancestor or a random far relative.

The fortune-teller granny gave us lots of clues about his parents. We know his father taught him to cook. Am I the only one imagining Kimi's dad as a Fujitaka figure, glasses included? A father who can cook, who could perhaps have medium powers in his blood (not necessarily), who could genetically have black-haired, miopic children. Me thinks way ahead, but with all those CCS crossovers, I can't help it. Who in CLAMPverse can be Watanuki's dad? Remember the little rule: anything goes.

If we assume HOLiC's world is different than CCS's world, we can do that. Who says CCS!Clow belongs to Yuuko's dimension? Nobody. So my wacky theories about Kimi-kun being descendant of an alternate CCS character in that world may fit. Remember, in Clow country (TRC), certain archeologist have different children. That just makes me go farther. Maybe Kimihiro is descendant, even son, of an altern:
- Fujitaka (makes a lot of sense... would that make Kimi a straight Touya? XD)
- Sakura (I doubt that, he didn't recognize hime of anything, so I'll discard it)
- Touya (have *really* similar powers and could happen if in that world Yuki doesn't exist u_u)
- an adult Eriol (it makes incredible sense, and mind you, Kimihiro has blue eyes [as long as Kaho is not the mother...])
- Clow. Yeah. There are no coincidences. He cooks.
- a non-crossover annonymous character we will never know since Kirisame is a hopeless dreamer and has issues

Why CCS characters, oh why?, you'll say. Well, because first of all, I'm screwed up. Second, as we see in volume 3, after finishing the basilisk snake mini-saga, Clow Read knew about Watanuki. And why would he bother if the boy has no direct relashionship with him in any dimension? That's the question. It would be interesting, though. Maybe he forced Yuuko to look after his altern children/descendants from different dimensions (Sakura-hime *is* king!Clow's daughter after all). Or maybe I just have a huge imagination. I'd better not mention the weird Watanuki-is-actually-a-young-Clow-in-that-dimension theory since that one has no sense whatsoever and it was 2 am when I made that up. Thank you, ignore that part O_oU

His friends? Yeah, there's something about Himawari and Doumeki. but it's too early to make theories about them. This is CLAMP, however, and some dirty secret about one of them will be exposed. It always happens...

What's Kimihiro's future? Will he ever be cured from his disease? Will Yuuko ever lose her butler and do her part of the deal? This is what I think: no. Maybe it's not what it's meant to be, actually. I think Yuuko is doing something altogether: butterfly is change, and she's changing his way to see the world. He's using his powers for interesting stuff; he's being in troubles but has helped people out. Like a young Subaru, he suffers a lot but uses his abilities for good (at least in TB 1-6 o_o'). Perhaps he's learning to control them, slowly. One day, he'll discover it's not that much of a curse, if he knows how to handle them. Then he wouldn't mind being a special guy. That's growth and self-approval. And from the beginning, Yuuko knew (and Clow as well) that he'd grow to be a wonderful character.

And let's pray nobody dies in this manga! O____o

And let's pray nobody dies in this manga!

My thoughts exactly... Especially because Watanuki = Harry makes me think of Himawari = Cho, and that makes me think of Doumeki = Cedric, and I like Doumeki *hugs protectively* Gaah, I take the HP connections way too far. (By the way, did you know that Fred and George Weasley's birthday is also April 1st? JKR *wants* me to write crossovers)

I've wondered if he will lose his powers, too. It doesn't seem completely right... I mean, I'm not sure it's actually *good* for him to lose them. They probably shaped his personality a lot. Maybe he can even give them a good use if he learns how to handle them.

Though I'm pretty sure Yuuko would still find a way to show she did her part of the deal in some convoluted way XD

Aren't they in CCS world? *is confused* I'll have to reread those scans again...

Thought that, thought that, hoped that, knew that, thought that XD

The other day, I actually pictured the laberinth scene this way:
Cedric: Harry, take the cup.
Harry: OF COURSE NOT! YOU CAME FIRST! YOU WON AGAIN! TAKE THAT BLOODY CUP AND STOP PITING ME!!
Cedric: [fingers in his ears] Stop screaming... so annoying...

Now, if they kill Cho or Himawari, not complaining... I don't want Doumeki to die. Nor does my friend Pam, the first and only Dou-kun fangirl I know.

They don't say if they're on the same dimension or not, that's just some stupid assumption I made, based in crossover lalaland. I have read more CLAMP works than you, so this is how it goes:
- XXXHOLiC is in the same dimension as Gohou Drug, as the boys at the drugstore are the main characters. The way magic powers are seein in GD differs from the powers seeing in CCS. It feels more like Clover. For instance, one of them say they can't find or see the future of a person more powerful than them. Doesn't sound like CCS magic to me. That's what makes me feel it's a different dimension. And even if Yuuko hides her presence and has heavy protection, when she does magic Watanuki should feel it, and go all "wow, what a power" or something like that. If the magic there follows CCS standards, I mean.
- Yuuko knew an onmyouji (yin-yang master) with a twin sister. That's Subaru Sumeragi, from the Tokyo Babylon/X dimension (no possibility of being the same dimension; the world is not ending there). So that means she's in contact with sorcerers from various dimensions. Could she meet Clow in a different world? Of course, she's the Witch of Dimension! She's famous! And I think Clow could easily travel between worlds, if he was the most powerful wizard in his.
- It's the only way for Watanuki to be related to Clow without being related to Sakura or Li, but then again, that's just me deluding. Trying to justify myself *whistles*

If Watanuki keeps his powers, we'll have to see. Maybe he starts liking the shop and worki... Naah, I don't think that's gonna happen, he's a glorified maid XD

But see this (I've been checking advanced scans in Chinese out): as the crack story goes on, Yuuko keeps doing less things and is just there to give guidance while Watanuki handles the action. Sort of like the Basilisk saga. She either is a lazy bum, or is teaching Kimihiro to face his problems.

;___; nooooo! Dou-kun can't dieeeee! we don't know too much about him! or at least, make Himawari a demon and kill her...

I think you're right Kiri, about the dimensions of HOLiC-Gohou Drug-Clover *hopes for a new book* beacuse in CCS, Sakura and Li could feel people more powerful. Maybe when they finish HOLiC and Gohou Drug, they will finish Clover (I will be a old lady by then...)

Hmm, I didn't know that about Gohou Drug, and it makes sense. I definitely haven't read enough CLAMP (only CCS, RG Veda and Clover). Good thing [livejournal.com profile] drachenaugen is there to explain me the XXXHOLiC and Tsubasa crossovers ^_^
