We made that same joke while watching it lmao. I actually quite liked the movie, I could tell the books must be fun and all.

Precisely that those two characters were completely rewritten in the movie (because they miscasted in the wrong age group, perhaps? the main characters were 12-ish at the time). You might probably still find book!white!preteen!Grover annoying, but book!preteen!Annabeth is a snarky Hermione-from-the-first-books type and you may like her.
