☄ He was smart enough to get into a major with better work opportunities. But yeah, those kind of things bring too much responsibilities and expectations so, instead of going to Social Communication or Education or Psychology, he slithered out and picked Philosophy and focused on silly yet interesting areas on purpose. So what if he was sabotaging his future, Megan. He would've be happier working in retail afterwards anyway.
☄ He chose to write his thesis about modern magic as a part of those non-laborer-compatible subjects he dig. But TBH, he had no idea he had magic powers by the time. Hell, he didn't even believed in magic since he was ten; the study was from a completely objective POV. It was a coincidence he actually stumbled into a REAL spell book when he was researching, and only invoked the dimensional-travel spell in jest and not fully knowing what it really does.
☄ He never dyed his hair before learning magic.
☄ Neil did idolize his uncle when he was little, and Howl would take him to rugby matches and eat ice-cream. Then he grew up and started to believe his parents that he was a useless bum, and lost respect for uncle. Sometimes Howl wonders if he's sort of replacing him with Michael.
☄ As ruthless as he wants to be, he (usually) just can't abandon anyone in need even if they'll be too bothersome/dangerous. This includes falling demons, orphans, cursed girls... He may pretend to be indifferent to keep appearances, though.

☀ She eats everything, but fruit is her favorite food. Juicy!
☀ She does have some degree of amnesia due to the shock of being revived like that. This is why she didn't confuse Susano with Nagi, or was confused when Waka said they knew each other, or didn't show excitement of seeing Ishaku again. Her memories do come back slowly after entering the Ark thanks to exposition gods.
☀ She understands love, just not romantic/sexual love. Sucks to be you, Waka.
☀ All Brush Gods have an alternative humanoid form, but they just prefer to stay in the animal ones. It's more free.
☀ Before the first big fight with Orochi, the other Brush Gods fused with her soul to lend their powers. When she died, they all dispersed and hid in the stars. Amaterasu's soul went to the sun, but Waka taught Sakuya how to invoke it back with a jade mirror when Orochi came back.

α Because of her demigoddess!dyslexia she couldn't 100% embrace her inner bookworm, and that drives her nuts the few years she goes to (mortal) school. It frustrates her to tears to have problems with the simplest homework, and nothing makes her feel stupider than finding an awesome architecture book that's impossible to read because it's in English.
α Related to that, Chiron does his best to bring her the best books in Greek he can find, and also lets her borrow his own. This is the real reason she's so well-versed in myths and historical half-bloods, and not any interest of her part to know her roots: it's just that Chiron's collection leans more on ancient history.
α She wants to believe she's a great strategist because she's Athena's child, but actually it's kind of self-delusion and she's not that great and she gets often paralyzed by emotions. She has better logic than most of her mates, true... but TBH it's not thaaaat hard XD
α She finds rejection and separation from people she loves (familiar, platonic, romantic) way scarier than any shit that's tried to kill her.
