I actually went there with a backpack

Feliz cumpleaños, [livejournal.com profile] hamsterfactor! :D

Yesterday I watched How to Train your Dragon and it was sweet. Am I one of the only people who thought it had potential since the trailer? I see almost everyone was all wary because it was Dreamworks, while I was all 'VIKINGS AND DRAGONS, they have to mess up pretty badly to get it wrong."

I also started the fifth season of Doctor Who, even though I skipped the whole run of Ten. Eleven is adorable so far. Nothing against Amy and the others, but why is it that all companions in the 'new' series are adult straight females from the XXI century?

ANYWAY! Today is Saint George and Book Day in Spain, so I went on a haul to get books with 10% off. It was awesome! I spent nearly 100€ in shit, also. Here is the loot:

Video games (okay, not everything was books)
Beautiful Katamari
Madworld

IT stuff
→ one about PHP 6 and MySQL development
→ one about webapp development, useful for my project
I wanted to get more, like one for CSS and one for Struts, but reference books are so expensive!

Fantasy lit
Percy Jackson 5 in English, fuck yeah
→ Pratchett's Carpe Jugulum

Mythology nerd cred
→ a children's compilation (well, 14+) of stories from Ovid's Metamorphosis. It has pretty illustrations and all!
→ a small one analyzing Dionysus, I thought it seemed interesting
→ a generic one on Egyptian mythology because I didn't have any

ETA: Crap, I forgot the Manga
→ Fullmetal Alchemist 23
→ The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
→ The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past

Dude, no. I saw the trailer and was like HOSHIT IS DREAMWORKS DOING SOMETHING RIGHT IT SURE LOOKS LIKE THEY'RE DOING SOMETHING RIGHT and oh boy were they

my nerd for this movie, let me show you it

Also, how much do I envy that you have a whole day for books. There's nothing like that in the US that I know of, not even at a state level. D:

Trudat, since the trailer the awesome and prettiness were so noticeable!

It's actually cooler in Barcelona, since it's a holiday of theirs :( They have a street fair with kiosk stands selling books and it looks amazing. Supposedly, in all old-fashioned misogyny, you originally have to gift books to guys and roses to gals, but most smart ladies must still demand books as presents anyway?

I knew I would love that movie since I saw the trailer, and then I loved it even more. =D

Also, speaking of Who! Do you want any Doctor in particular for the Ark of Yamato + TARDIS meme thingy?

As long as he's not behaving like an emotard for being the "last" Time Lord, I don't mind which one it is.

But now, just as there are many Doctors, there are two Amaterasus to choose from, two timelines, two Poncle companions, whether to use the time-travel gate from the forest or not. There are so many possibilities! That I leave to you to decide, since after all it's just a drabble.

Okay! I just wanted to make sure it was a Doctor you know. So I'll probably go for Eleven because he's adorkable. =D

It doesn't have to be a Doctor I know, that would be too limiting since I only know three of them. If you want to use one that works better for you, like Four, you can do it. The Doctor is the Doctor, the only shit that changes is minor characterization details and wardrobe.

Thank you! ♥ And so glad you liked How to Train your Dragon! I'm always wary of rec stuff to people because I feel extremely guilty afterwards if they don't like it lmao. But actually, yes, I was curious since the trailer, even if it was Dreamworks.

why is it that all companions in the 'new' series are adult straight females from the XXI century?

Because they've got no imagination? Because they found a formula that works and are too afraid to change it now? :/

I'm also like that when I rec things, fff.

Because they found a formula that works and are too afraid to change it now?
I'd disagree with it; they just don't know how to handle XXI century females, and what they do with it ends up screwing with the fans. Rose was squeezed at nauseum until almost everyone hated her, Martha was underwhelmed and they didn't know what to do with her, Donna got the one of worst companion endings ever. I honestly doubt any fan of any of them can be 100% happy about their fates. It's a matter of time until Amelia is a victim of bad writing.

I do agree it must be lack of imagination and being too scared to take risks. Jack could've easily been a formal companion, and a refreshing one at that, but instead they gave him a spinoff to glorify his cock and continue in their comfort zone in DW.
