TRC foreshadowing and Ende references?
Random, but this = best Harry Potter book cover EVER. It's from Ukraine.
I rewatched the Card Captor Sakura movie 1 today. Li Yelan kicks ass. God, Sakura has the best mother-in-law, really. She sure gave her the approval, since kiss in the cheek can be interpreted as "you sure are worthy, take my only son and give me grand-children". And I love her fan and the Feng-Shui kind of magic. Yay for Eastern school!
Now, this scene really freaked me out:
Sakura is falling. The place is bathed in blue light.
SAKURA: Where is this?
Kero flies out of her bow.
KERO: A tunnel between dimensions! Look closely at your surroundings.
Sakura gasps as the tunnel lights up with dozens of blue squares.
KERO: It's connected to a lot of dimensions. If you got lost here, you'd never get out!
SAKURA: What should I do?
KERO: Think!
SAKURA: Eh?
KERO: Sakura, as long as you have a strong will to go, we'll get there!
Sakura closes her eyes.
SAKURA, thinking: I want to go where everyone is!
A square lights up below them.
KERO: That's it!
Sakura passes through it.
So I can even analyze it from two points of view. The first one is just a creepy coincidence. I'm rereading The Neverending Story, and I just arrived to the part about the Temple of a Thousand Doors. Sounds familiar, Laurus? I think I'm killing your braincells again.
The second one is more forced, but it's killing me inside. You see, what do we have here? Keywords: a cute yet powerful girl named Sakura, travelling between dimensions, finding a dark-haired sorceress who knew a magician named Clow.
...
Does that sound familiar to you? It does to me indeed! [glances at her Tsubasa volumes]. It's so not the first time I find myself concluding CLAMP has planned those crossovers for years. Stupid Ohkawa's plot bunnies... I wonder if Madoushi was the draft of what would become Yuuko. They both sure have something in common: they look like they hate Clow-samaalthoug they love him.
And I've always seen a tendency in the women in Clow's life. He's always nice -maybe too nice- to them, a total gentleman, but they end up hating his guts. My question is why. We don't know enough about Clow's personality to figure out. Did they envy him since he's more powerful than them? Was he a player? His eternal grin was disturbing? They wouldn't date a man who can cook better than them? His breath smelled permanently of sake? (I don't think Yuuko'd find a problem to that one).
Or perhaps it's the whole "Sonomi complex" in them. They can't beat him in anything, and he looks so perfect it's annoying. That's what happens when you tend to flirt only with arrogant witches. Who knows, maybe he digged difficult women! Hohoho...
So if Clow was as flirtatious as Eriol and as flawless as Fujitaka and as well-mannered as both, and if he was as powerful, weird and capricious as Kero tells us he was... well, I can see why did women loved to hate him, ne?
... I think I need some help.
And another thought, now that we're talking 'bout Clow here. The Li modern family trains their children in kung-fu since they're kids. Even Meiling, who was a squib (yay for HP terms!), learned kung-fu as well. Then I wondered if that's a centennial kind of tradition of the clan. Was Clow also trained in martial arts when he was young? He did have zen traits, so I can see him meditating and practicing every now and them; especially since he looked like he ate and drink a lot but was healthy nonetheless (hmmm, I'm sure he had a nice body underneath the robes... *drools*).
So.. if Clow knew kung-fu, does Eriol remembers it? If Syaoran and Eriol had to fight melee style, who would win?
Crap, this post has summonned some evil plot bunnies. >_<

And why did they all end up hating him? Well:
1) Because he was always aware of the future he couldn't quite enjoy some things (as stated by Eriol in the manga) and began every relationship knowing it would end.
2) In the end, the things he cared the most were the cards, Kero and Yue.
Really, ALL your post summon evil plot bunnies.

As for why Clow always had love-hate relationships (that we know of, at least), I vote "all of the above". Bet the constant grin *was* disturbing. Apart from the fact that Yuuko probably would never admit she loved anyone.
And I simply love the term "Sonomi complex" XD
