I think it can be interpreted in many ways: friendship (club), selflessness, using his creepy megane powers for good, becoming less classist, being less uptight. True, all of that began with Tamaki, but having a middle-class friend who brings a new perspective could help a lot. But I'm sure that whatever that is, it's in the character growth department.
