And you are such a cool fandom most of the times...
Hey, you know, I like ports of old games! I've bought/gotten my fair amount of games I really enjoyed but never finished, or I'm too lazy to replay, or I don't have the original console anymore. Most of them are Zeldas, but dudes, I feel a sort of homely comfort knowing I can replay Ocarina in at least two (soon three) consoles other than NINTENDOSIXTYFOUUUR.
True, when they add new shit or remove old shit beyond improves to gameplay it's a bit YMMV for me, depending on the game, but then I watch a gif of a dog putting on sunglasses and I deal with it.
But yeah, like them ports. Even better, I love ports to handhelds! I discovered I'm more consistent playing on a GBA/NDS than a control/keyboard. I can play tiny chunks on bed or while I wait for something. This is several kinds of useful when it's a JRPG and it boosts my productivity, to the point I can actually reach the ending. I rarely finish games in consoles, I have to love it too dearly to give it dedication. But handhelds are magical like that for RPGs. And I honestly don't care about equal/loss of quality: I want to (RE)PLAY IT!
So when I hear that those bastards at NAMCO are porting Abyss to 3DS, my thought is "and how many lambs do I have to sacrifice to which pagan god for this to come to the West?"
I'd LOVE to own this one legally. I couldn't find it in a fair price at eBay and, since I had to mod my PS2 to play it either way, I shrugged and went pirate. Undubbed for extra fangirling. But really, this game and canon has given me so much joy, I'd happily sink my money on it. Even if it's the same game with the same graphics. But you have to translate it, NAMCO! I'm not even counting for it to get to Europe because it's you, but at least bring it to USA.Hopefully Nintendo doesn't decide to region-lock like those Sony wankers.
So when I hear that the fandom is whining about being trolled, my thought is "...you guys wouldn't survive a day in an ATLUS or Squeenix fandom, wouldn't you? lol wait, the Tales series is already portalicious, what the hell guys."
Haters to the left. PORTS ARE NORMAL BUSINESS. NO ONE ASKS YOU TO BUY A 3DS. IGNORE IT. Unless they do a Vesperia, then any wank is more than justified (and frankly, unless it's metacanon about the Keterburg gang or mindless sidequests, I'd prefer they don't add anything beyond new costumes), but we still don't know that so CHILL, OH MY GOD.

I mean idk if you feel that playing ToA or whatever game in a DS is a crime against nature, simply... don't buy it and stick to the original version? What's the big deal?

A little worried how a game as huge as Abyss is going to carry over to a handheld, but it's looking like the 3DS has amazing capacity, so it seems like it's going to work out fine? IDK. |D
(but oooh new costumes oooooh do want do want, yes please!)

If these screencaps (http://www.4gamer.net/games/121/G012149/20100929055/) are legit, it doesn't look too different from the PS2 game! But of course, people now wank because they're not upgrading the graphics or whatever, WTF.
(as long as it's not the "hey, it's this other Tales character's outfit!" they did in PS3!Vesperia and Graces, they looked boring)

... Of course, the fact that Adamska really looks like her mother with those new graphics, for example, redeemed it to me instantly >>;
But yeah, I'm totally with you there.
I'd eat meat for a MGS4 for an Xbox.no subject
Or it's the new Kojima method of trolling for trailers. I mean, doesn't the Raiden game's trailer is pretty much a Ginzu knife ad? XD
My brother would love a port of MGS4. He refuses to buy a PS3 for one game, though. Not even an used one.no subject
I don't know much about the Abyss fandom so I can only presume the reason they're flipping their shit is because of Vesperia's little port fiasco, where the PS3 port was basically an entirely new game...which I don't even want to play anyway because they added a gross new character and screwed up the story with a bunch of poorly-thought out new plotlines! Beware, they might stick a badly-done new character in your game too, for marketing.

Edit: also adding her screwed up the group dynamics and added another nonsensical plotline to an already nonsensical plot. Goddamn Vesperia I love you but I just want to beat you over the head with an editing wiffle bat sometimes. Or all the times. ps your icon reminds me I have to play Grim Grimoire one of these days.

Also, in canon, the funniest thing is how everyone is trying to bang everyone else. Except the guy with the lion's head. He's not fixing his lionhead because he likes how it discourages the people hitting on him, and gives him more time for Science.
It's a pretty confusing game, all said.
no subject
Sounds like a typical highschool to me. And I dunno, I think it makes perfect logical sense that having a lion's head would give one more time for Science. Also more time for hunting and devouring gazelle.

Probably Vesperia's spit on the eye may influence them, but there are still no details about the game besides HEY, WE'RE MAKING A PORT. So far there are no news of changes in the plot, weird new characters or speshul DLCs or anything. If there were, I'd side with them. But so far there's no reason yet to be pissed off? If they don't want a port that so far is the same old thing, don't play it. I never played the Wii Okami port and the world didn't end.
no subject
Yeah I don't know anything about what's going on in that fandom but I figure it's a mix of horror at what they might do (with the Vesperia rerelease as a benchmark) with the regular SHRIEKING UNPLEASEABLE FAN-syndrome. It will pass, I'm sure. X3
(It's a good thing you didn't experience the Wii Okami port, I heard the controls were so broken as to be unplayable. X3; And they claimed they were porting to the Wii because it would make the brush "easier to control." I honestly never had problems with the PS2 controls, once I got my bearings...)

It sort of makes sense to be scared after Vesperia, but I doubt all of them are into the entire general Tales fandom (it's sort of hard to be? since you'd have to own almost every console ever and know enough Japanese) and those who've only played that one or don't know about Vesperia and Tales of Graces wouldn't have to feel so trolled? Ignorance is bliss after all. I'm
hopingtheorizing that being a handheld port with PS2 graphics, adding too much new shit would be hard, which decreases the chances of a Patty. When NAMCO makes ~improvements~, they tend to be in PS3 ports, a console that lets them lots of space.(I have friends who would've never played the game if there wasn't for the port, so I'm a bit grateful about its existence. I still won't buy it not because of the controls, but because I heard they cut the credits and ugh, that seems like a last flipping a bird to Clover Studios! Fuck you, CAPCOM.)

I AM EXCITED but I also hate the American dub with a burning passion so. :|a BUT STILL, isn't it too early for fandom to implode?
no subject
I don't mind the American dub (except that Ion's VA is like a cheese grater holy crap make it stop!) but yeah, the Japanese seiyuu are better and too bad they'd probably use the old dub audio of they want to release it off Japan.

I want Kid Icarus and OoT for the 3DS so baaad. Even though I have OoT on my Wii virtual console... WHATEVS
no subject
I'm so buying Kid Icarus even if it's a weird flying shooter thing. I don't care, it looks pretty and ridiculous and just awesome.

Also barely related, but I finally found TotA locally at a reasonable price, after not even being able to find it listed on Gamestop's website. Wonder if the sudden availability is related to news of the port?
no subject
I heard there was a reprint, actually. No idea how recent that was, but it could be either a coincidence or someone selling their game for this news. Who knows? Either way, that's awesome. (And don't worry, you-know-who isn't active in that fandom at all.)
no subject
It can't just be one person selling their game; besides that every store in the area had at least one copy, the clerks said that the sudden abundance was due to the warehouse "finding" a whole bunch of copies in storage.
no subject
...Well, now we know who to blame the shortage of copies for years.
