My levels of masochism, let me show you them

Welp, I just recovered from a really nasty flu that destroyed my family.

Autumn 2010 shall always be remembered as the Season With The (Most Likely) Crappier Sequels of Mythology Butchery Stories I Loved (tm). That means that next week comes out the new Rick Riordan book, The Lost Hero, and last week Okamiden was released in Japan. I'm giving TLH the benefit of the doubt, but you all know I expect the very worst from that spawn of a game.

It doesn't mean I'm going to avoid it like the plague like a reasonable person. Heavens, no. I want to know everything and complain when it's due. This means I actually went and downloaded a ROM for Okamiden, language barrier be damned. Except No$GBA doesn't read the game, and there were anti-piracy measures in the original game so patches had to be released. I thought I was spared of the torture, but then I tested it in DeSmuME and it fucking worked. Whoopie doo.

Well, I'm still not sure if I'm going to play the thing even though I can. Action games in emulators are impossibly slow, JSYK. Cutscenes take ages. Just beating two imps was a nightmare. And my laptop was all heated after 15 minutes. I don't want to burn my computer for Okamiden (my braincells, on the other hand...) I hope someone does a full playthrough/Let's Play. In any case, I'm stalking forums in gaming sites for spoilers. At the very least, I want news about Kurou's origins and if anyone of the original cast dies. The rest I don't give that much a damn. (Oh, who am I kidding!)

Um...Kurou's origins? I'm sorry to break it to you, but, uh...you've probably already seen the fanart of Waka holding him affectionately on Pixiv. Don't ask me about the pink cherry-blossom wings, though. It's weird, but ooking at the Japanese fandom sometimes yields more information than the gaming sites scrambling for ROMs and patches: trolling through fanart sites proved to me that the Shyamalan-esque twist in TRC involving CCS!Sakura and Tsubasa's parentage was "true" (at least, until CLAMP themselves told us it wasn't true).

"Ooking" should be "looking." That reminds me of Dee Vasquez's line from the first Phoenix Wright game -- "Always, always with the 'ooking.'"

I didn't. I'm avoiding Okamiden fanart because I'm not into cute for cute's sake. Which... I guess this game is about or something.

But do the fanarts say how? When? With whom? Does the artist's comment say spoiler in particular? If not, and it's just cutesy hugs for cute's sake, then they're not bringing anything I need to know. He could still be a clone.

There are baby versions of Amaterasu, Ushiwaka, and all of the brush gods. If the developers didn't intend this game to be cuteness for cuteness's sake, I don't know what to believe in anymore.

I was confused at first because a lot of comments suggested that Kurou was Waka's son, but then I found a recently-made short comic that the artist marked for spoilers. It was Waka placing Kurou in a rocket, which -- as it apparently happened before the game, and thus wasn't actually shown -- the artist drew to resemble Kaguya's. He mentioned how Kurou, being Waka's "duplicate," could be thought of both his brother and his son. Long story short: I think you're right about the clone thing.

Aliens AND clones, the recurring themes in my fandoms

[identity profile] rainmage.livejournal.com 2010-10-09 04:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I read yesterday that someone in an interview (probably Eshiro or the director) said that they straight up wanted to make Amaterasu a baby. So yeah, they admitted it's pretty much the point! Even the new Brush Gods have babies. What the hell is in the Celestial Plain's water, how do they reproduuuuce?

Ah, was that comic made during October? I saw a bunch of Waka-hugging-Kurou when the character was shown, and assuming before the game was out that it was his son, but it was speculation at that point. However, if it was specifically marked as spoilers... :o Wow, now I am more curious about this mess. *looks for Deal With It gifs and pills for future ulceras*

...I...I just want to see little Kabegami, to be honest. /sucker for kittens

The comic is over here if you want to look at it! It was made on October 3rd, and it's got red text at the top saying "Recommended after clearing the game." From what I've read, the plot of Ōkamiden is too close to Ōkami to be worth mentioning, but the relationship between Waka and Kurou actually seems kind of sweet.

No idea if Kabegami makes it to the plot (they cut some of the original to make way for... penguins and fish, I guess), but I hope so! A Kabekitty would be awesome.

Thanks! ...I just looked at the other spoiler-marked comics in the Kurou tag to confirm it and just spoiled myself rotten about something else! |D Oh wow. That's so not on, game.

Kabekitten will mark the difference between making hundreds of thousands to making tens of millions.

I'm not sure if I want to know what the worse thing is.

I want a baby Orca myself, since everyone has babies.

Crap, then ignore the white text in my previous comment in the other post.
