And now, quick animated movie reviews

Because after Katanagatari, I wanted to cleanse my pallet with something non-Japanese and non-angsty. I think it was mission accomplished.

α Toy Story 3
Yeah, it took me a while. Pretty awesome and it has it all. I laughed, I cried, I flailed, I bit my nails. Like, three minutes after sobbing my eyes out in the ending, I was smiling, and then I was bursting in giggles. Yeah, that kind of film. And this is probably one of the rare trilogies where it's still amazing as movies pass by.
I had my doubts about the plot because it does sound like a douche move to the toys. But then it wasn't at all. It did remind me of Brave Little Toaster in some parts, but it's more lighthearted and the outcome is quite different. I approved of it, despite it all.
You know, this doesn't really mark the end of my childhood because I was a teenager when the first one came out. And Pixar movies are hit and miss to me. But it still moved me. It's hard not to watch this films and get attached to a lot of characters. I didn't ship toys before, why am I shipping toys now :|

β Megamind
This one was so much fun! A lot of meta jokes and philosophy about heroes and villains, plus the dorkiest main character you can imagine. And the roles kept changing around, which is something I loved about that. It did bother me a little that... the city was so easy to not only forgive Megamind but idolize him just because he saved the day once, nevermind all the crimes he did before (and Titan was his fault after all). I mean yeah, I like that he can redeem himself and they're gladly giving him a chance to become good, but it's a liiiiiiittle bit illogical. Roxanne changed her mind so quickly, too. I know, I know, children's movie, the main character has to win, and the point was that the bad guy isn't all bad and gets the girl, but still. It felt rushed. But regardless of my WTF over the latter, the film is so much fun and witty and full with LOLs.

γ Tangled
Quite adorable. And if you think about it, this is the first time Disney went with an ACTUAL pretty magical healer princess, which is the big princess archetype in RPG/fantasy. Rapunzel was like someone mixed a genki JRPG heroine with Anastasia and Giselle and then gave her Stockholm syndrome. She was also less sassy than she looked like in promos, more on the cutesy side sometimes, but on the other hand she had sympathetic flaws and was a brave girl regardless. So yeah, I liked her. The funny thing about Flynn is that after all the focus in trailers he had (and their respective wank), he was pretty much fail :'D I think I'm amused by this generation of Disney pairs: girl with a goal that is not finding twoo wub is stuck with useless but flirty guy. But he's cute in his dork, like he wants to be Tulio from El Dorado. Also, like [livejournal.com profile] mumumugen says, it's interesting how scarily well it portraits manipulating abusing parents and overprotected children.

I still have to see Tangled. It looks cute. =D

... heh, it's funny that we aren't that far apart in age and yet the original Toy Story falls firmly in "MY CHILDHOOD" camp for me. I guess the 12-13 change shows. :P But yes, I loved the third one, and it did remind me of Brave Little Toaster at some points but it was waaaay less traumatic.

And Megamind! You're right about the city forgiving him, true, but I have no trouble ignoring that because... well, it's a superhero parody. I can deal with worse. :P AND BECAUSE IT PINGS MY VERY SOUL. Two things I loved: 1)Megamind never having really planned what the hell he was going to do if he won, because he was always so sure that he wouldn't; and 2)Roxanne actually saying out loud that "never gives up no matter the odds" is a trait we're used to see in heroes. HELLO THERE, EVERY FAIL!VILLAIN I'VE EVER LIKED.

It's really adorable. Too bad the camrips are too blurry to admire the pretty.

I think it's because we watched it with my brothers that in my mind it's THEIR childhood and not mine. If it's something I watched in middle high, I think it's part of my adolescence. And yeah, the song at the dumpster in BLT is MADE OF HIGH OCTANE NIGHTMARE FUEL D: Anything looks mild next to it.

Now that I think about it, maybe from the city's POV, it's like it's the lesser of two evils. Literally. Megamind didn't kill/destroy as much as Titan. And he did rebuild everything. (I do wonder if Megamind is still in political power in the end or he just stepped down for someone who can be the mayor without being fail.)
1) That's quite meta of him XD Being aware of him sucking so much.
2) That line was amazing :'DDDDD Perseverance: it can happen to anyone. Especially cartoon baddies.

I might take my cousins to the cinema during the holidays, who knows. :o

maybe from the city's POV, it's like it's the lesser of two evils
I like this! And I certainly hope he stepped down, yup. By that point he's discovered he's not really interested in power, anyway
I like #2 because finally someone says aloud what I've always thought: we can cheer for fail!villains like Wile E Coyote or the Brain because we're so used to NEVER GIVING UP as a good guy trait.

At least he won't desert them for music like Metroman XDDD
Willy's gotta eat, the poor thing! And I'm sure The Brain is much suited as supreme overlord than most politicians are suited as presidents.

You know, the combination of comment + icon makes me think of Zuko's speech in The Boiling Rock. XD "You're going to FAIL AND FAIL AND FAIL AGAIN!"

I can't remember that one, but if someone is batshit persistent in that series, that's Zuko.

Want more reason to watch Tangled? Just try looking at Maximillian the horse without thinking "it's Miko's stupid horse!" Luckily for him, Flynn isn't as much of a killer as Belkar.
