It might be open, but it does solve somehow the main plot and that's what's important, so I say it does count as an ending. I don't know WTF they are going to solve in HOLiC anymore?

I think, if they really were to retake an old series, there would be some kind of rumor/announcement by now. They'll probably stick to Kobato, then begin with Gate 7, and meanwhile every X and GD fan will be trolled once again.

I had thought before that some of the best CLAMP manga (to me) were the shortest ones, which is why I was sad Gate 7 became a series instead of a one-shot. But now that you mention it, you might be onto something with the opposite.

Last I heard, Watanuki was stagnating in the shop, waiting for Yuuko to break CLAMP's cardinal rule and return from the dead. Has anything changed since then?

If not, a fitting end might be Yuuko returning, followed immediately by the collapse of the multi-verse. Next series is about fixing the fuck-up.

The spirit of the series sort of died with Yuuko anyway, at least to me. They changed magazines and title, and it was all about Watanuki having cryptic talks with Doumeki while drinking sake or something. Meh.
