Quickies

Aaaaaaaah, I finished Ghost Trick last night! I fucking loved it. But I'll do a longer post later today because I really want to talk with spoilers and all.

So, anime!

Level E 2: Keep on trolling you crazy diamond, looking forward to the clusterfuck next week. I also concluded that the anime is lots funnier if only for the voices -and I don't only mean Koyasu, but he was as hilarious as the others.

Fractale 1: A little early to tell, but it seems more interesting in the show than in the blogs' season summary so far. I'm going to say that the animation is really good in this episode (hope it keeps up?) and the character design is gorgeous. Our main male character is adorable and I want to pinch his cheeks, and I'm sad that the priestess girl didn't stick around. I hope the main girl isn't annoying.

Hourou Musuko 1: ...those bitches skipped some volumes and brought the context in dialogs and flashbacks. Whyyyyy? Now it makes it all confusing. It's a real shame because the animation style was so refreshing and pretty.

Princess Arete: This is an old anime movie I saw recced on my flistflist. From the get-go, it's quite "I can't believe it's not GHIBLI". Actually, it only missed a bigger ecologist message to be a GHIBLI film: the art style was uncanny in resemblance and we do have a female protagonist becoming more badass as the plot advances. Probably someone who worked there? But either way, it's a cute movie despite of some scenes being so "...uh" (then again, GHIBLI has plenty of those even in their best films). Arete is smart and brave, it's really fairy-tale-ish over all, and I'm satisfied about the ending.

Crap, I'm running late. Be right back in the afternoon for meme responses and that GT post.

Mannnn I have too many unfinished games atm (and I need to post about Layton 3 and HOW FUCKING MUCH I LOVED IT), but I was curious about Ghost Trick already - and now I'm even more curious! Hopefully I'll be able to read some of your spoiler-free reactions?

I do realize I'll need to read the Hourou Musuko manga eventually (and Aoi Hana too) but ugh I'm hesitant to start more on-going series D:

LOL, but I'm going to post everything re: Ghost Trick under cut because my more than half of my reactions are very spoilerrific :D But it's totally your kind of game, I think you'll love it. It shows it's from the creator of Phoenix Wright, NGL. Plus, one of the main characters is the cutest Pomeranian doggie ever (seriously, he's my favorite). The ending is sort of mindfuck and has twiiiiists, but it's happy and fluffy. For a game so full of LOLdeaths, it's full of hope and heart.

I want to make icons so badly but there are no artbook scans/sprite rips/anything beyond promo art ;_;

The anime spoils a lot of the first part of the manga in the first episode, and it's starting just at the part I got bored of the series. I have no idea if they're going to address the beginning as they should or just mention it as things come up.

Oooh, I was actually looking for someone who'd started both of the first two you've listed, I happened to see them both being done by the same subb group I get my Fairy Tail and a number of other series for.

Okay, quickly explaining: Level E is sci-fi comedy crack (weird alien guy installs on a teenager's new apartment, trolling ensues), Fractale seems to be one of those fantasy/sci-fi hybrids that can either be great or generic but it's early to tell but the animation is pretty at least.

Ahh, that sounds pretty awesome. Thanks for the recaps!

Well Hourou Musuko is only set to be 11 episodes, I think they just decided to start from the middle storyline. It is an odd thing to do but it might turn out better than if they only did the first part of the series.

I am loving Level E and also really liked the first episode of Fractale (love the homages to all the old series).

Overall I am very pleased with this anime season.

I might be biased because I thought the most interesting part was the beginning, when the kids started to try on clothes and became friends with each other and a cool transwoman. After they went into middle school, I thought things were getting too awkward and I dropped the manga out of boredom. Therefore, this episode felt awkward all over again for my taste. So I don't know, all those references might be a little confusing to someone unfamiliar to the series but I can't tell.

I didn't catch the homages in Fractale (never watched Nadia, for instance), but at least it was a pretty episode. I love Level E and its trolling.

I was surprised that they skipped so much of the beginning of Hourou Musuko too, although I still liked the first episode a lot. There were several scenes in the first five volumes that I would have loved to see animated though.

I agree about Fractale, too - I'm not quite sure what to think about it yet, but it seems like it has potential. I really liked the music, and the main character is very sweet. I hope we get more info about the fractale system soon though, it's all a little confusing.

I wonder if they'll continue with flashback episodes and then jump back to middle high. I do hope so, it seems confusing by just mentions/imagery of the previous part of the manga just because it comes up.

I think the "the Fractale system is kinda like God" was rather strange myself (YMMV, I guess) but the boy is adorable so I'll check next episode for the characters in this one. I don't know what to think of the main girl yet, she might be the kind of genki that gets annoying.
