taotrooper: It's a polar bear dancing the hula; your argument is invalid (Issun / size doesn't matter)

Can't I just jump the crappy bridge pressing B instead?

I bought Eight Days of Luke by DWJ, online. I'm still bummed over the lack of ebook for this one, but this is likely a good inversion because this book has Loki as main character. Nnnng have done want for such a long time. I also added a Norse mythology book to the basket.

After struggling with the brothers' Wii for 20 minutes -batteries, firmware updates, software updates, etc.- I downloaded the Okamiden demo from the Nintendo Channel. I can honestly say this was not worth it and I don't recommend it. It's not the game what was bad, no. It's the fact that instead of a demo with the first 15 minutes of the game, or maybe a piece of a dungeon + boss fight, or some running around Shinshuu field, or something cool? No, it was the fucking tutorial part! Remember the part of the original game, at the River of the Heavens, with Issun info-dumping you the basic controls so you could go on? IT WAS FIVE (OR LESS, IF YOU SKIP KUNI'S BLAHBLAH) MINUTES OF THAT WHAT THE FUCK I ONLY FOUGHT MONSTERS ONCE. That's no demo, that's a cocktease.

...Brush techniques with the stylus are sweet nonetheless. Still not worth your time, though.

Ahem. Less angry now. I'm crossposting an 30 Days Okami meme I'm doing on Tumblr. I saw a Percy Jackson one but half of the questions were movie and whatever dude.

Day 1: Why do you love Okami?

It’s really hard to say without gushing, to be perfectly honest. It’s my top favorite video game, after all. Probably even my favorite fandom in general. But I can say that this game is a big conglomerate of stuff I love in both stories and games.

a) Mythology butchery! Anyone who knows me can witness that anything based in myths, particularly with pantheon gods, will call my attention. Okami is a steaming pot of name dropping for Shintoism and Japanese folklore/history. Because of anime/manga, I love Japanese mythology. Part of the fun here is to see how they changed so much around a figure but still hinting strongly the roots of the name. But this is because I’m a NERD.

b) I genuinely love the characters and the plot. It’s a three-act epic full of endearing people and horrible monsters. Everything and everyone has such a personality, even the most minor character! And they can grow up, too. There are plotholes, obviously, but all the good in the characters make up for it. And it’s funny without overdoing it. There’s happiness and sadness, tragedy and hope, light and darkness, cuteness and nightmare fuel. It’s amazingly balanced. And all the good things sappily triumph in the end, and I’m a sucker for that.

c) Fancy aesthetics. The landscapes are just breathtaking. I’m a big fan of the artsy-fartsy kind of games, I need color and lights and visuals to feast my eyes. I’ve never understood all the brown and gray in gaming of this generation /shakes cane. Then again, I much prefer happy cartoon style to serious space marine in zombie apocalypse so it might be me being a broken person.

d) The gameplay never tires me. Of course, it might come from the fact that I’ve been a Zelda fan for years. But this is a game where I could just open a pre-Ark save file and do nothing but run fast through the fields and punch youkai in the face, with no purpose whatsoever like this was a sandbox game, and still grin like an idiot. I’m pumped when I fight a boss, satisfied when I solve a puzzle, annoyed when a sidequest is too hard, happy when I make something bloom or feed an animal.

e) Females can be badass without being forced to swing a sword. (Let’s not get into a gender/sex discussion with Amaterasu.) “Strong females” in fiction are great and all, but not everyone has to be a warrior to make a difference. Sakuya, Kushi, Himiko, Otohime, they fight in their own style and I love them for that. In the same vein, both children and old folks can be important to the plot: in the world of video games, where only from preteens to adults under 40 normally are the ones doing things, this is rare and amazing.

f) Oh, and the music is just perfect.

Yo no hubiera podido contestar tan coherente XDDD
